Nokia Lumia 1520 reaches the UK on December 6th, starting at £80 on a £38 per month plan
Posted in: Today's ChiliBrits who’ve been yearning for the Nokia Lumia 1520 will soon get their chance. The supersized Windows Phone is now due to reach the UK on December 6th, when it will be available through O2 at retail and Vodafone through the web. Third-party retailers like Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u will also stock the 6-inch flagship. While the exact pricing will vary, Vodafone will sell the phone for £80 when it’s attached to a £38 per month plan and a 2-year contract; it will be available for free if you subscribe to a beefy £47 plan. The 1520 will undoubtedly be one of the more expensive handsets in the country, then, but it may be worthwhile for those who want one of Nokia’s most powerful devices.

Now here is an interesting bit of news for those of you who love Diablo 3 and all things associated with this particular dungeon crawler – especially for those who have played it on the console instead of on a desktop or notebook computer. The folks over at Blizzard has announced a piece of news that will certainly make this weekend sweeter concerning the upcoming Diablo 3 expansion, which is known as Reaper of Souls. It is said that Reaper of Souls has been planned and confirmed for the next generation Sony PS4, with a playable version of the game even being made available for the masses to give it a go over at BlizzCon, which will be happening this coming November 8 to 9, accompanied by DualShock 4 touchpad features to boot.
Needless to say, now that we know all of that, there is one more major question to ask – for the meantime, that is. Does this particular announcement of a PS4 Reaper of Souls expansion imply a non-delayed multi-platform launch date? Only time will be able to tell, but it definitely is a pleasant surprise since Reaper of Souls was originally announced as an PC expansion without any mention of it ending up as a console version.

We are more often than not told to “go for gold” in whatever that we do, and when it comes to the word “gold”, it does bring about a fair number of expressions such as “a golden opportunity”, or “good as gold”, or even “the Golden Rule”. Well, gold is something that has stirred up the greed in mankind ever since it was discovered, and it will continue to do so. O2, a mobile provider in the UK, is feeling generous enough to give away an 18-carat gold HTC One to a lucky customer. Basically, this is a marketing move to sell even more HTC Ones, as each HTC One that is sold at O2 stores between today and Sunday will be accompanied by a golden ticket that will carry a code. This code can be entered online in order for you to stand a chance to win that elusive HTC One that comes covered in 18 carat gold.
There are only five in the entire country (the UK), and the street price for this 18 carat gold HTC One happens to cost more than £2,000, which by far and large would make it the most exclusive and expensive phone that has rolled out by HTC to date. Of course, we will not take into consideration those custom design jobs that see a smartphone blinged out with diamonds and other precious gems. Apart from a gold HTC One, the lucky winner will also pick up tickets to the MOBO tour at The O2 this coming November 14th.

O2 delivers ‘Bags That Talk’
Posted in: Today's ChiliI have learned throughout the years that there are just some things which you do not argue with your other half, and that includes subjects close to her heart. For some ladies, handbags and shoes are to them like how a new set of golf clubs are to guys, but do bear in mind that this is just a general statement and does not hold true for everyone. O2 has an exciting project that they have done with designer Sean Miles, where the latter has added to his collection of vintage fashion accessories that are made from recycled mobile phones. This new series of handbags is aptly called ‘Bags That Talk’.
The whole idea behind this particular Bags That Talk idea is to explore the very real possibilities of gadget recycling. The approach that Bags That Talk has taken would be to combine iconic designer handbags where among them include a vintage Celine box handbag, a Chloe shoulder bag and an Alexander McQueen clutch bag, alongside old and unwanted Nokia and LG handsets which were sent in by O2 Recycle customers who had moved on to newer, brighter and shinier objects.
Does this mean that the men who are fashion conscious are left out of the picture? Not really, as there is also a luxury Mulberry messenger bag which has been given a somewhat similar treatment, having been turned into a retro ghetto blaster-cum-mobile phone. This unique creation is more than ready to begin blasting out the choices on your playlists at the touch of a button, in addition to providing you with the freedom to carry out conversations on the move thanks to the integrated handset and earphone socket.
It would be safe to say that these handsets have been upcycled in a way, and they have definitely gained a new lease of life. No idea if such handbags would be worth more with an integrated handset or not though.

The dust has settled on Apple’s 2013-era iPhone launch, so it’s time that we delved into what the damage is here in ‘ol Blighty. EE, along with its buddies Orange and T-Mobile, has confirmed that it’ll carry both the iPhone 5s and 5c from launch. LTE contract users who are six months into their EE deal will also be able to take advantage of the conveniently-announced Swap service. O2 has said that customers will be able to use O2 Refresh to upgrade their handset from launch, and Vodafone and Three have both given the thumbs-up to carrying the pair of handsets. No-one’s talking about specific contract pricing, but we expect carriers will drip-feed this information in poker-faced chunks between now and the September 20th launch date.
iPhone off-contract pricing (UK) | 16GB | 32GB | 64GB |
---|---|---|---|
iPhone 5s | £549 | £629 | £709 |
iPhone 5c | £469 | £549 | N/A |
Prices subject to change |

You may recall earlier this month we mentioned that O2 was set to launch its 4G network within the UK on August 29. August 29 is officially here and O2 has indeed flip the switch and turned 4G on for its customers. However, O2 isn’t the only wireless carrier in the UK it’s turned on […]
Brits who’ve wanted Nokia’s budget phone ambitions writ large — namely, the Lumia 625 — won’t have to wait much longer. The 4.7-inch Windows Phone will be available on August 28th through EE, O2, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U. If you’re interested, you can pick up the device for free on a £21 per month contract, or buy it outright for £179 on pay-as-you-go service; early adopters get a second colored back as a bonus. EE, O2 and Vodafone should all support the Lumia 625’s LTE either immediately or the day after, so it’s just a matter of choosing the 4G network you prefer.

Following the formal reveal of the LG G2 yesterday, UK network Three was quick to report its plan to offer the handset “soon,” so we thought we’d follow up with all the other major providers to see where else you’ll eventually be able to find one. O2 is also on board, although it would only commit to a vague release window of “later this year.” Vodafone said it currently has no plans to offer the G2, and while EE has “nothing to announce,” we couldn’t get any assurance that it wouldn’t show up on its 4G network, or on the Orange or T-Mobile brands. Retailer Carphone Warehouse has put a tentative October arrival date on its website, and although we’re still waiting on a response from Phones 4U, you’ll more than likely be able to find it there, too. So, if you’ve developed a particular taste for the slim bezel design and quirky button placement, you’ll have at least a few options come launch time.

UK’s O2 launches 4G service August 29th in London, Leeds and Bradford (updated)
Posted in: Today's ChiliSoon enough, the UK will have more than one choice for 4G data. Come August 29th, O2 will offer LTE in London, Leeds and Bradford, with expansion plans for an additional 13 cities by year’s end. Rates start a £26 per month — current provider EE’s cheapest is £21 — and you get a 30 day “Happiness Guarantee” when ordering directly from O2. If that isn’t enough of an incentive to buy direct (and pay a higher monthly price), the service provider is throwing in 12 months of free music content too. Keeping with the music theme, the telco is hosting a launch concert at its Sheperd’s Bush Empire venue, and will stream it to billboards across London. Who’s headlining the event is anyone’s guess at this point, as are full details on data package speeds, bandwidth caps and other pricing tiers.
Update: In case you were wondering, those who use O2’s network via Tesco Mobile or Giffgaff will also get the option of LTE, according to CNET, although it’s apparently too early to say when or for how much.
