If you couldn’t get your first choice @Outlook email address
If there is one thing we can all agree on, it’s that being at work is different than from being at home. Well, unless you work at home or live at work, which, um, maybe we can’t agree on anything. But! The things you do on the computer at work should probably be different from your Internetting at home. But sometimes you forget! Sometimes you use your work computer to go to porn sites. Sometimes you click a NSFW picture from your cubicle. Sometimes you opened Excel at home *GASP*.
Microsoft Office Mobile for Android arrives, requires Office 365 subscription
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve been enjoying Microsoft Office on the iPhone for a little while now, but it has finally arrived on Android smartphones, with support for tablets still MIA, just as with the iPad on iOS. Office Mobile for Android brings cloud-based office suite fun to Google’s mobile platform in the form of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Hey, Microsoft Office is out for Android now, too. Now you can work even more. It’s not optimized for tablets, though, so stick to the Office web apps if some deranged kidnapper is forcing you to work on a tablet. [Google Play]
The once-mythical Office Mobile for iPhone has been available for a while, but what about that rumored Android version? As of today, it’s equally real: Microsoft has launched Office Mobile for Android. Its cloud-focused approach to editing Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents will be familiar to those who’ve tried the iOS release, including SkyDrive storage support. What differences exist are there primarily to accommodate Google’s Holo interface guidelines — as on iOS, there’s no tablet-native interface. The pricing certainly hasn’t changed. While the core app is free, you’ll need an Office 365 subscription to start working.

Microsoft offering Xbox Live Gold to Office 365 subscribers, US gets stiffed
Posted in: Today's ChiliMicrosoft is looking to appeal to the number crunchers who also might be gamers in their spare time. The company is bundling a whole year of Xbox Live Gold with their Office 365 service for free. Anyone that buys and activates an Office 365 Home Premium or Office 365 University annual subscription before September 28 will be able to get a free year of Xbox Live Gold.
That’s quite the deal if you ask us, but here’s the kicker: It’s not available in the US. Only 38 countries are eligible, including most of Europe and some South American countries, as well as Canada, but Microsoft seems to be leaving out one of its biggest markets in the world. It’s possible Microsoft is testing out the promo before bringing it to the States, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we never saw it.
Office 365 was launched back in 2011 to offer a cloud-based Office suite for businesses and educational institutions. Consumers can still buy Office on its own, just like it has always been, but Microsoft is pretty set on wanting to get more and more users taking advantage of Office 365, and a free year of Xbox Live Gold is pretty enticing.
We probably won’t see a huge rise in the number of new users for Office 365 based on this deal, but it does prove what Microsoft is willing to offer if you switch over to the new cloud-based word processing software. Xbox Live Gold costs $60 for one year, which is quite a bit after that adds up.
However, we could definitely see college students being the majority of adopters for this deal, considering that you get a free year of Xbox Live Gold, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few businessmen and women who secretly enjoyed playing a game or two after work hours.

New Office 365 subscriptions get 12 months of free Xbox Live Gold (update: offer available in US)
Posted in: Today's ChiliSweetening the deal on its cloud-based Office 365 suite, Microsoft will start bundling a year of Xbox Live Gold with any purchases of Office 365 Home Premium or Office 365 University made before September 28th. You’ll then pick up an Xbox Live code as you sign in during the initial Office setup. Unfortunately, US customers aren’t eligible for this promotion, but the majority of Europe, plus Australia, Canada and parts of Asia are all included. Alongside the recent promise of two free games a month, Microsoft’s made this bundled subscription a pretty tempting proposition.
Update: Turns out that this offer is available in the US after all. Thanks to tipster David for spotting, and sending that in. Details can be found at the More Coverage link.

If you’re always on the move but like to have a real desk to work at, maybe designer Tyrone Stoddart‘s BOXED project is for you: a suitcase that contains an entire collapsable workstation.
It hasn’t been hard to get Exchange support on iOS devices, but there’s some for whom third-party apps and web clients just won’t do. Microsoft has them covered today — it just repackaged the Outlook Web App as a pair of native iOS releases. Both OWA for iPad and OWA for iPhone deliver email, calendar and contacts to Office 365 subscribers with access to Exchange Online. The developer is quick to note that this isn’t a recreation of the Windows Phone environment, and there are a few elements borrowed from Outlook’s web version. Still, we see a few reasons to give OWA a try: the native iOS software sends push notifications, takes voice commands, and supports both passcodes as well as remote wipes. Between the new apps and Office for iPhone, it’s clear that iOS users are now welcome in Microsoft’s world.

Pot of Grass Pens: Prevent People from Stealing Your Pens, Once and For All
Posted in: Today's ChiliDo your pens go missing every once in a while, even though you’re sure you left them at your desk? Pen thieves are everywhere, especially at the office, so if you don’t take care and keep your stuff when they’re not in use, then chances are they’ll go missing once you leave your desk or cubicle.
My suggestion for your pens is to replace them with these ones. They look like blades of grass stuck in a plant pot, but remove one and you’ll see that it’s actually a pen in disguise.
The pens come in three different shades of green to make it look like you’ve got actual grass in that pot. While people will eventually catch on that those are pens and not grass, they’ll still ward off would-be thieves because it would be extremely obvious if they go to work one day with a green grass pen in their pocket.
Each Pooleaf pen costs about $5 (USD), which means you’ll spend quite a bit if you want to fill an entire pot with them. They don’t come with the pot either, but those are easy to find anyway.
