Are These Olympus’ Latest Micro Four-Thirds Cameras? [Cameras]

According to DigicamInfo, the cameras pictured above are the Olympus E-PL5 and E-PM2, which would serve as the successors to Olympus’ diminutive, entry-level Micro Four-Thirds shooters, the E-PL3 and E-PM1. Both were decent cameras when they hit store shelves last year, and now that these rumored cams will apparently use the same 16-megapixel Sony sensor found in the OM-D E-M5, along with a touch panel LCD, we should, at the very least, be intrigued by what could come from cameras such as these. Olympus E-PL5 and E-PM2 interchangeable lens cameras leak into view

Olympus

Secrets have been hard to keep in the camera world lately, and now Olympus has undergone its second leak in as many days, but this time with a couple of higher-profile actors — the E-PL5 and E-PM2 mirrorless cameras. Both will use the Olympus E-M5 sensor with TruePic VI image engine and touchscreen, and are reported to be priced at €399 ($520) for the E-PM2 with a 14-42mm kit lens (in silver, below the break) and €599 ($780) for the E-PL5 with the same lens, shown above. That follows earlier leaks from Sony, Fujifilm and others, along with two upcoming lenses from Olympus that were also outed ahead of time. Hopefully, there’ll still be a couple of surprises left when Photokina rolls around next week.

Olympus E-PL5 and E-PM2 digital cameras leak

This has been quite a week for digital camera leaks and unveils. Earlier this week, the rumored Sony RX1 full-frame digital camera was unveiled with a massive price tag to go with it. The little camera sells for almost $3000 and doesn’t have interchangeable lenses. Olympus has now had a couple of its coming compact digital cameras that do have interchangeable lenses leak.

The black camera you see is the Olympus E-PL5 and the silver camera is the E-PM2. The two cameras look so similar you could almost believe they are simply different color versions of the same digital camera. However, if you look closely you’ll notice that the black camera has a slightly different design and a larger knob on top than the silver.

We don’t have an abundance of details on these two cameras right now since these are leaked images. The few details that did leak along with these photographs include that the cameras both use the same Olympus E-M5 sensor that features the TruePic VI image processing engine. Both of these cameras are also said to have touchscreen LCDs on the back.

Pricing for the silver E-PM2 is said to be €399 including a 14-42 mm kit lens. The black E-PL5 is tipped to sell for €599 including a similar 14-42 mm kit lens. There are some indications that both cameras could go official early next week. That’s all we really know about these two leaked Olympus offerings at this point.

Olympus XZ-2 leak spotted

Avid shutterbugs would definitely know that this year’s Photokina is right around the corner, so you can bet your bottom hard earned dollar that rumors of upcoming digital cameras and camera accessories will begin to make their journey to the Internet, carried over by curious seekers who feel better that they have a pulse on what’s to come in the digital imaging industry. Well, the Olympus XZ-2 is one of the leaked digital cameras, and it is a no-brainer to say that this will continue from where the Olympus XZ-1 point and shoot camera left off.

This new model does seem to share many of its predecessor’s design DNA, except for a fake leather grip as well as the inclusion of a toggle switch that will need some explanation upon its announcement. It does seem as though Olympus has positioned the XZ-2 to be a digital camera for outdoorsmen, as it will have an underwater case accessory as well as a molded cowhide cover. Patience should be able to reveal all there is to know about the Olympus XZ-2 in due time.

Unnamed Olympus point and shoot leaks, looks like the XZ-2

Creative Labs 3D gesture recognition camera handson

Photokina’s just around the corner, folks, so it’s only natural for a few of the cameras to get leaked before their official debuts in Germany. What you see above is a picture scrounged up by the folks at Digicam info, and it appears to be of the Olympus XZ-2, an update to the company’s XZ-1 point and shoot. From the looks of things, the new model largely retains the look of the old, save for a faux leather grip and the addition of a toggle switch of unknown purpose on the front. It also seems that Olympus will be rolling out an underwater case and a molded cowhide cover to go with the camera when it arrives. Folks searching for a closer look at the hardware can find it at the source below, or y’know, wait until we get our hands on it next week.

Olympus Stylus TG-625 is one tough cookie

So you think that you are tough? Well, assuming that is true, you might want to have an equally tough digital camera to follow you around so that it is capable of capturing all that goes on around during your adrenaline pumping adventures. The candidate of choice? The Olympus Stylus TG-625, which is touted to be waterproof, shockproof and freeze-proof, but despite all of its ability to be able to handle heavy duty work on the field, it does not look unwieldy in any way. The inclusion of iHS Technology enables users to perfectly and beautifully capture photographic moments using its 12-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor. (more…)

Olympus introduces Stylus SP-820UZ, SP-720UZ cameras and SZ-14 binocular bundle

Olympus

Thought Olympus only made one camera named after a writing implement? Meet the Stylus SP-820UZ, announced alongside the less romantically titled SP-720UZ and the SZ-14 DX bundle. The Stylus (the only one we’re expecting to see in the US) comes with a 14-megapixel CMOS tied to the same image engine you’ll find inside the company’s desirable PEN series. It’s ideal for crazy cat people, since it comes with a Pet-face detection mode to ensure your hilarious cheezburger submissions are perfectly focused, and it’s even got a series of magic filters to jazz ’em up further. The snapper uses AA batteries (a genius or insane move, depending on how cheaply you can pick ’em up at the store) and will arrive in September.

Meanwhile, the SP-720UZ includes a 26x optical lens perched in front of a 14-megapixel sensor with HDR backlit correction and high-speed shooting. The company’s also outing the “Big Telephoto Set,” combining a SZ-14 compact camera with a pair of binoculars for those who want to drag along a spotter. Both sets will be available in August, though Olympus has only confirmed US availability for the 820UZ, which is expected to retail for $330 in silver and black.
