The rumours and leaks were spot on. HTC’s giving its flagship One X a spec bump to help it compete with the likes of the Galaxy S III. Meet the new 1.7GHz quad-core-packing, 64GB-equipped 4.7-incher, dolled up in go-faster red and black, the HTC One X+. More »
The One X+. You have to reach for the Shift key just to type it out, but as names go it’s neither unexpected nor inaccurate. In fact, it paints just the right picture, because this is still the same global (i.e. non-US) One X we’ve come to know and respect, but its matte black shell also contains important additions that secure its rightful place at the top of HTC’s Android range. In fact, it’s even better news than that earlier XDA leak suggested.
More info
On the hardware front, the One X+ has a faster Tegra 3 variant that clocks in at max of 1.7GHz (versus 1.5GHz on the original), an enlarged 2,100mAh to keep the engine turning over, a capacity boost to 64GB (versus 32GB on the global One X and just 16GB on AT&T’s handset), and — self-portrait artists rejoice — an upgraded front-facing camera that promises 1.6 megapixels and better image processing. Most other specs stay the same, including the 8-megapixel rear camera, 1GB of RAM and the lovely 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD 2 display. The UK handset we played with was also stuck on 3G, leaving it unable to party on the emerging British LTE scene, but there’s an LTE global variant too that could potentially touch down on these shores in the future (although HTC wouldn’t confirm that outright).
In terms of software, HTC’s skin (now called Sense 4+) has been modified to work on top of Jelly Bean and brings a host of subtle improvements from both Google and the manufacturer. All in all, we reckon this new contender works hard enough to become desirable rather than merely incremental, and if you check out the video and hands-on impressions after the break then you might just agree.

HTC One X+ official: 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3, 64GB, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Sense 4+
Posted in: Today's ChiliRemember HTC’s early 2012 Android flagship? Well, it’s back and plus-sized for the tech-savvy masses. Officially announced today, the One X+ is a minor refresh of the original that debuted at MWC this past spring, albeit with a faster 1.7GHz Tegra 3 CPU, larger 2,100mAh battery, expanded 64GB of storage and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Sense 4+ onboard. As part of that upgraded custom skin, the 4.7-inch device can now tap to pair, or “Tap and Go” as the company calls it, with Beats-branded speakers, allowing users to easily connect and disconnect from their audio peripherals. Apart from that, the 8-megapixel rear module with f/2.0 lens and ImageChip-assist has stayed the same, but the camera software’s been slightly tweaked with the addition of two new modes: Self Portrait for subtle retouching of front facing shots and Sightseeing which allows for quick launch of the camera app. Also debuting alongside this hardware update is HTC Get Started, a web-based service that lets users manage initial setup from the desktop for one-click installation on the phone itself. The One X+ is slated to launch globally this fall, hitting Europe and Northern Asia this October, with a November rollout in South Asia to follow. As for a US release, well, you’ll just have to sit tight and see what news the day brings. Official PR after the break.

More HTC One X+ photos surface
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe other day we reported that thanks to a leaked O2 brochure, the specs of the upcoming HTC One X+ was leaked. Well it looks like the folks at Pocket-Lint have managed to get their hands on what appears to photos of the device itself and based on what we’re looking at, well it seems that the rumors were right on the money when they said that the phone will greatly resemble the HTC One X, albeit with its specs tweaked slightly, although the logo of Beats Audio on the One X+ is different from older HTC phones.
As for its specs and in case you might have forgotten, the HTC One X+ is rumored to sport a 4.7” display, a 1.7GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra-3 processor under the hood with 1GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera, Beats Audio integration, free 25GB of cloud storage via Dropbox and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. Still no word on when it will be available but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled nonetheless.

Pocket-lint is reporting that it’s been sent images of the new HTC One X+ from a trusted source and… it looks almost identical to the existing HTC One X. More »
Earlier this month we reported that according to a leak, the HTC One X+ had its specs leaked. If you’re not a fan of leaks and approach them with a healthy dose of skepticism, we don’t blame you, but if the One X+ is a phone that you wouldn’t mind getting your hands on, UK carrier O2 seems to have leaked the specs of the device in a brochure, giving some credence to the earlier leaks as well as giving some additional details that weren’t known before.
For starters it has been revealed that the One X+ will feature a 1.7GHz quad-core processor (earlier leak suggested 1.6GHz quad-core, and 1.7GHz single-core). It will also come with 64GB of internal storage (leak suggested 32GB) although we’re not sure if it’s up to 64GB, or if 64GB will be the only option. It also revealed that it will come with an 8MP camera, 25GB of free Dropbox storage, Beats Audio integration and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. O2 UK has priced it at £479.99 on a pay as you go plan, but no word on how much that might translate to when (and if) it arrives on T-Mobile’s network stateside.

If you are looking forward to the HTC One X+, it seems that T-Mobile could be the carrier you will be able to pick it up from, at least that’s what previous rumors have suggested. If you’re not the sort that buys into rumors and would rather see it to believe it, you’re in luck as @evleaks has managed to get their hands on a photo of the HTC One X+ with none other than T-Mobile’s branding on it. Earlier rumors have suggested that the HTC One X+ for T-Mobile has been delayed due to testing reasons, and now it has even been suggested that it could have been cancelled or delayed indefinitely.
Hopefully the photo above is evidence that the phone is still on its way to being released on T-Mobile’s network, because if it isn’t, it sure is quite the tease! In any case @evleaks has been pretty spot on with their leaks so far, revealing the Nokia Lumia 920 in all of its glory prior to its announcement, so there is a good chance that the photo above is genuine. Either way we’ll still keep our fingers crossed, so if the HTC One X+ is a phone you have been anticipating, check back with us at a later date for more updates.

From the lab: Lumia 920 low-light shootout with Nokia 808, iPhone 5, HTC One X and Galaxy S III
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt looks like Nokia’s controversial marketing move, which involved using pro DSLRs to “simulate” low-light shooting, was even less necessary than the smartphone maker may have thought. During our visit to the company’s Tampere, Finland research and development complex, we were given access to a comprehensive testing suite, enabling us to shoot with a Lumia 920 prototype and a handful of competing products in a controlled lighting environment. Technicians dimmed the lights and let us snap a static scene with each handset at just 5 lux — a level on par with what you may expect on a dimly lit city street in the middle of the night. The 920 took the cake, without question, but the iPhone didn’t fare too poorly itself, snatching up nearly as much light as the Nokia device. The 808 PureView also performed quite well, but the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III yielded unusable results.
It’s one thing to snag proper exposure, though — capturing sharp details with little noise and superior color balance is an entirely different beast, and the Lumia managed to do just that, as you’ll see in our 100-percent-view shots further on. Later in the evening we hit the streets of Helsinki for a real-world shootout. The 920 did present some issues with exaggerated shake and other rapid movements, but it offered up excellent results overall, even in scenes that were too dark for us to make out any details with our own eyes. Our nighttime shoot can be found in the gallery below, followed by plenty of comparison photos after the break.

HTC offering urBeats headphones with iPhone trade-ins and purchase of the HTC One X
Posted in: Today's ChiliSo maybe the iPhone 5 was not the iPhone that you’ve been waiting for all this while and you’re looking for a change of scenery; Android perhaps. Well if you’re thinking about making the switch, it seems that the folks at HTC have a pretty sweet deal going on for iPhone owners. As you can see in the ad above, HTC is currently offering a deal to iPhone owners where if they trade in their used iPhone and purchase a HTC One X handset at the same time, you will be entitled to receive a urBeats headset (which is apparently worth $99) for free. This is probably an ideal situation for owners with older iPhone models, like the first gen up to the 3GS since they can probably fetch better prices if they were to sell an iPhone 4S. If this sounds like a pretty sweet deal and you wouldn’t mind a free pair of earphones with your new HTC One X, head on over to HTC’s website for the details. So, who’s trading in their old iPhone for the HTC One X?

How would you change the HTC One X?
Posted in: Today's ChiliFlagship phones are tricky customers when it comes to How Would You Change. Often, they’re handsets that have every feature thrown against the wall as companies see what sticks with customers. Hovering on the blistering edge of technology, it would seem there’s very few things wrong with (staff favorite) the HTC One X — although perhaps that makes any glaring that more notable. What we’d like you to do is place yourself in the position of HTC’s design mavens and work out what omission they could or should address when it comes time for a sequel.
