    OUYA Looks Beyond The TV

OUYA Looks Beyond The TVI am quite sure that many of us out there have heard of OUYA before, where the startup company has mentioned that they intend to extend their software (some call it platform) to other devices, and these devices would include the likes of set-top boxes as well as smart TVs. OUYA has done a pretty good job at keeping things under wraps so far, especially concerning the “Everywhere” initiative, but it does seem as though the company is en route to making an announcement of their first deal with a hardware manufacturer within the coming fortnight.

TC Droidcast Episode 20: Motorola Goes To Lenovo, Google Loves Nexus And Ouya V2

    droidcast-banner-20

It’s a brave new dawn for the TechCrunch Droidcast as I take over hosting duties from Chris Velazco… who returns temporarily from the distant lands of Engadget to share his insights on Google’s sale of Motorola to Lenovo, the Nexus program at Google and what’s next for hardware there, and the new, slightly improved Ouya Android console.

Remember that you can now also catch Chris on the Engadget Mobile Podcast, if you miss him. Plus remember that even though Google has jettisoned its own pet mobile phone maker, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have hardware chops – the Nest team has just come on board, for instance, and isn’t likely to leave the roost anytime soon. As for the Ouya, if you’re looking to learn more about what’s new with the updated hardware, you’ll find the (short) list here.

We invite you to enjoy weekly Android podcasts every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern and 1:00 p.m. Pacific (new time!), in addition to our weekly Gadgets podcast at 3 p.m. Eastern and noon Pacific on Fridays. Subscribe to the TechCrunch Droidcast in iTunes, too, if that’s your fancy.

    Ouya 16GB Launches At $129

    Ouya 16GB Launches At $129

Ouya is one of the several Android powered gaming consoles that took the spotlight in 2013. When it was initially launched the console only came with 8GB of onboard storage, which as you might imagine wasn’t deemed to be enough. During the holiday season Ouya released a white Limited Edition console that came with 16GB of storage. It appears that the company had decided to make this a regular offering, the Ouya 16GB console has now been launched at $129. It also comes with a few minor improvements, such as better Wi-Fi, matte black finish as well as a “refined” controller design.

New Ouya Console Gets Updated Controller, More Storage

We first talked about the Ouya game console back in 2012. That console first turned up on Kickstarter seeking the money to bring the Android games you like to the big screen in the living room. A few years and a lot of pledges later, the Ouya console has been available to gamers for a while now.

Ouya has been criticized for controller lag issues in the past and has announced a new version of the console to address some of the complaints. Ouya says that the new version of the console has a “refined” controller. We don’t know what that means, there is no clear indication of what exactly was refined.

The new version of the Ouya also gets 16GB of storage, improved Wi-Fi, and new firmware. The new version of the Ouya is available for $129(USD). The standard version is still offered for $99 with 8GB of storage. It’s unclear if the controller refinement will eventually come to the 8GB version.
