Panasonic 20-inch 4K Tablet Prepared For September 4th Announcement

Panasonic 20 inch 4K Tablet Prepared For September 4th AnnouncementThere are whispers going around that Panasonic will be showing off their thinnest as well as lightest 20” 4K tablet right before IFA 2013 kicks off. Apparently, this super high resolution slate device will be one of the stars of Panasonic’s presentation that will be entitled “A Better Life, A Better World,” the tablet remains a long way off from a commercial release of any kind. After the September 4th event in Berlin, the Panasonic 20” 4K tablet will be paraded at the IFA 2013 show for all and sundry to ogle over.

I guess you can more or less call this particular device a concept at the moment, and when you take into consideration the 20” viewing real estate with a resolution count of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, it ends up as a pixel density of 220ppi. This particular device was first heard of in January, where it apparently ran on Windows 8 with an Intel processor running underneath the hood. It remains to be seen whether the folks over at Panasonic have changed the hardware configuration so that it will be powered by Android instead. That is not out of the question since Android was used by Panasonic before, so we’re waiting with bated breath. [Translated Page]

Panasonic 4K tablet teased as world’s thinnest and lightest with 20-inch panel

In the days before the official start of the Berlin-based technology conference known as IFA 2013, Panasonic is aiming to stir up some excitement with word of a 20-inch 4K tablet. This device does not seem to be the sort of device that Panasonic will be releasing any time soon, acting as part of a […]

Panasonic SC-HTE80 Speakerboard introduced as sound bar alternative

Panasonic has announced a new speakerboard that it is touting as an alternative to sound bars, two of which were just introduced by LG last month. The SC-HTE80 Speakerboard is a no-nonsense looking device, being little more than a dark rectangle with a simple, mostly invisible screen. Panasonic promises that it offers strong bass, however. […]

Nikkei: Panasonic to halt smartphone business in Japan

We don’t often think of Panasonic when it comes to smartphones, and it appears the Japanese public doesn’t either. According to the Nikkei, the consumer electronics giant will step out of the smartphone business in the Land of the Rising Sun, and plans to shut down its only handset production plant in March of next year. Phone sales dropped precipitously in the recent April to June quarter, which Panasonic attributes to NTT DoCoMo’s recent discounts for Sony and Samsung handhelds over its own. The Japanese carrier is said to stop carrying Panasonic handsets some time this Winter. Yet, Panasonic isn’t terminating its cellular business entirely — it’ll keep certain models around for corporate and foreign markets (perhaps the P51 or the Eluga?), and it won’t stop making those regular ol’ feature phones. In the meantime, the Nikkei reports that Panasonic is courting potential suitors for its cellular base stations. It seems that despite the increasing popularity of smartphones, not everyone can survive the cutthroat mobile market.

Panasonic refreshes Let’s Note lineup, says LX is world’s lightest 14-inch notebook

Panasonic refreshes Let's Note lineup in Japan, says LX is world's lightest 14inch model

Though Panasonic’s Let’s Note laptops are only sold in Japan, it’s nice to know how the other half lives, isn’t it? The company just updated three models in the lineup, including the 12.1-inch SX and NX, along with the flagship 14-inch LX. Panasonic claims the latter is now the world’s lightest 14-inch notebook at 1.14kg (about 2.5 pounds), provided it’s equipped with a 256GB SSD and lightweight batteries. Despite that lack of heft, it still manages to pack an Intel Core-i7 CPU, a 1,600 x 900 display, 4GB of RAM, and an 11-hour battery into the boxy case. The 12.1-inch SX and NX are similarly spec’d, but have a Core-i5 processor option as well (the NX can only be had with a Core-i5). Those models will power along for 15 hours with the lightest batteries, while also tipping the scales at around 2.5 pounds. While excellent, that’s still far from the 1.9 pound. 13-inch Inhon Blade carbon — and let’s not even discuss thinness. Pricing and availability have yet to be disclosed.

A 64:9 Ultra-Wide Camera That Captures an Entire Sporting Event At Once

A 64:9 Ultra-Wide Camera That Captures an Entire Sporting Event At Once

When the NHK in Japan first developed the spec for what would eventually be officially known as HDTV, they opted for a 16:9 aspect ratio, instead of the more traditional 4:3, which better filled a human’s vision. But Panasonic apparently feels that’s still not wide enough, at least when it comes to capturing the action on a sports field. So it’s developed a multi-camera system that can capture 720P at an astonishing 64:9.

QNX and Panasonic link up to bring fancy incar infotainment systems to more showrooms

For those who can’t quite handle the down payment on a Bentley, there’s a Porsche. For those who can’t quite handle the down payment on a Porsche, there’s… well, about to be something else to covet. QNX — the same software outfit responsible for sprucing up the in-car infotainment systems in the aforesaid brands — has just inked a deal with Panasonic Automotive Systems Company of America, which should deliver QNX CAR-based systems to vehicles sold in North America, Europe, and Japan. Sadly, neither company is coming clean on which automakers are lined up (if any) to swap their ho hum systems out for something a bit more modern, but we’re certainly hoping that it’s more than just a handful. Oh, and if any of the motorcar makers in attendance need any ideas for implementation….

    Panasonic Quits The Smartphone Market

Panasonic Quits The Smartphone MarketEarlier this month, we brought you word that NEC has decided to quit the highly competitive market for good, although they will continue to have their interests represented in the tablet world. It seems that fellow Japanese company, Panasonic, too, has decided to take a bow out of the smartphone market – and this bit of information is said to have come from telling a Japanese operator that they will no longer roll out handsets for them.

What you see above is a prototype of the smartphone that Panasonic did pin some hopes on to perform a reversal of its fortunes in the smartphone market, but alas, it failed to materialized. NTT Docomo was informed by Panasonic that the latter will no longer supply them with smartphones from this winter onwards, and considering how NTT Docomo happens to be the country’s largest mobile operator, in addition to being the only channel that one is able to obtain Panasonic smartphones, this does sound as though it is a death knell for Panasonic. Goodbye Panasonic, we hardly knew ye – at least from the smartphone perspective.
