PayPal now supports prepaid gift cards for online purchases

A prepaid gift card may not be the proper substitute for a well-chosen present, but at least the beneficiary will have an easier time using it online this Christmas. That’s because PayPal now supports such cards, meaning they can be used at any online emporium signed on to its Checkout platform — and that’s quite a few, we’re told. PayPal says prepaid cards with no associated billing address sometimes create problems when that part of the payment form pops up, which its new service avoids (on PayPal-friendly sites, anyway). Maybe you can just persuade your Grandparents to send their gift via bank transfer and keep it digital in the first place. It’s the money thought that counts, after all.

Uber Car Service Now Lets Customers Pay Via PayPal

Uber Car Service Now Lets Customers Pay Via PayPal

Uber on-demand car service, which is gradually expanding operations in various cities around the world, now lets customers pay via PayPal. It has released new versions of its iOS and Android apps which include PayPal built-in as a form of payment. To promote this new partnership, both the companies are running a promotion till November 28th. Customers can get $15 off on rides they pay for using PayPal.

The on-demand car service already accepts credit cards and Google Wallet as modes of payment, however PayPal integration will aid its global expansion, says Uber CEO Travis Kalanick. PayPal integration only allows customers to pay fares for their rides at this point in time, however its possible that Uber might incorporate more features in its app in the future, such as allowing customers to check their account balance from within in car service’s app. The partnership is also beneficial for the payments company, as it gets to show off its new mobile SDK. PayPal’s mobile SDK will go live next year and it will allow third-party developers to add PayPal’s payment option in their own apps. Thus their users won’t have to exit the app to pay via the company, which would automatically enhance user experience.

PS3 PlayStation Store Gets PayPal Support

PS3 PlayStation Store Gets PayPal Support

Sony has announced that starting today, users can add funds to their Sony Entertainment Network wallet through PS3 PlayStation Store which now supports PayPal. PayPal integration was initially introduced in January earlier this year, but back then the Sony Entertainment Network wallet could only be funded through PayPal via the web. Only recently Sony added the option to add funds to the wallet through mobile devices, using the Mobile Billing option. PayPal support in PS3 PlayStation Store will now make it much more easier, and faster, to fund the wallet through the console itself.

Gamers who are concerned about the security of their payment details will be satisfied with the inclusion of PayPal. Who can forget the PlayStation Network breach back in 2011 which saw personal information of millions of users being leaked, PayPal support adds an additional level of security in this regard. To add funds to the Sony Entertainment Network wallet through PS3, all users have to do is click “Add Funds” when checking out from the cart on PlayStation Store. Clicking on “PayPal” will allow them to transfer any amount from $5 to $150, which is the maximum balance the wallet can hold. The wallet can be used to purchase a number of things from the PlayStation Store, such as movies, TV episodes, PS3 games and more.

Amazon Launches ‘Login And Pay’ Service, Takes PayPal Head On

PayPal is one of the easiest and most used methods out there for making payments online. Online merchants integrate PayPal into their web stores allowing customers to pay from their accounts, though most web stores require customers to first create a user ID, which basically means there’s yet another username and password for the customer to remember. Amazon has launched a service that not only fixes this problem, but takes PayPal head on for the online payment business. Online merchants can integrate Amazon’s “Login and Pay” service into their web stores and allow customers to make payments through the credentials stored in their Amazon account.

This effectively eliminates the need for customers to sign up for an account on the merchant’s web store just for the purpose of checking out. They’ll just need to enter their Amazon credentials and make payments for whatever they’ve purchased from that merchant, since their Amazon account is already configured to make payments, they’ll never be required to fill out credit or debit card information on the merchant’s website. Its an ambitious service that aims to tackle PayPal, and with more than 215 million active customer accounts on Amazon, it just might be able to make a dent. The service is free for customers, but merchants will have to pay. Instead of paying a monthly fee or a number of other charges, merchants will only pay once a customer makes a purchase on their web store and they’ll receive fraud protection that likes of which is implement on amazon.com. A number of merchants have already teamed up to use Amazon’s new service, it’ll be interesting to see how quickly it grows with other online merchants, of all sizes.
