If you’re a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 player who doesn’t play the game on Xbox 360, then you know the feeling of being left out in the fun of a new piece of downloadable content all too well. Let the god games begin: 22cans’ Godus beta available on Steam Early Access September 13th (update: iOS and Android release dates)

Let the god games begin 22cans' Godus beta available on Steam Early Access September 13th

A collective effort pulled back Curiosity’s curtain early this summer, and now it’s nearly time to play god. On September 13th, 22cans and Peter Molyneux will make the beta release of Godus, the studio’s latest “experiment” in god gaming, available via Steam Early Access for PC and Mac. The early release will cost eager overlords $19.99 and allow them to “sculpt every inch of a beautiful world,” and, of course, destroy those worlds in multiplayer battles with other virtual gods. The Kickstarter-backed nod to Molyneux’s Populous reached its funding goal in December of last year with the promise of PC, Mac and mobile compatibility and continued his focus on the video game as social experiment. Final release details are still under wraps but you can see an updated trailer after the break.

And for more Molyneux, check out our interview from E3 2013.

Update: We had a chance to catch up with Molyneux following his keynote at PAX and, among other things, he revealed release dates for iOS and Android versions of Godus: October 31st (Halloween) and November 14th (Day of the Colombian Woman), respectively.%Gallery-slideshow77099%

Sony teases flexible VAIO Flip PC origami-style (video)

DNP Vaio Flip PC teaser video

We believe Sony just proved it’s the master of teasing flexible laptops by using a piece of paper and basic origami skills to tout its upcoming VAIO Flip PC. If we understood the clip correctly, the device can take the form of a laptop and a tablet, but its keyboard can also fold beneath the screen to act as a stand. Sound familiar? That’s because Lenovo’s Ideapad Yoga 11S has a similar form — tell us we’re not the only ones who smell competition. If you missed the teaser video when it went up briefly last week, check it out after the jump. You won’t be able to glean info other than the hybrid’s forms from it, but you won’t have to wait long anyway — the Flip PC is slated for an IFA 2013 reveal.

If we understood the clip correctly, the device can take the form of a laptop and a tablet, but it looks like it can flip around for use in a third position as well. Sound familiar? Lenovo’s Windows 8 PCs to bundle SweetLabs’ Start menu replacement, app store

Lenovo's Windows 8 devices to bundle SweetLabs' Start menu revival, app store

Software developers and PC vendors have frequently catered to reluctant Windows 8 buyers with Start menu replicas, and that trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Lenovo has just reached a deal that will bundle SweetLabs’ Pokki suite with its Windows 8 PCs, including a Start menu replacement, an app store and a game arcade. The two companies haven’t said which particular systems will first ship with Pokki, although the deal starts with consumer-focused devices and will spread to include multiple PCs across the IdeaCentre, IdeaPad and ThinkPad lines. The SweetLabs agreement should cheer those who want the old Windows experience or an alternative software store. The bundle may prove bittersweet for Microsoft, however — it usually wants Windows PC buyers to embrace the future.

HP Q3 2013 droops; Whitman praises ability to predict sliding finances

HP saw Q3 2013 revenue fall 8-percent year on year, mustering $27.2bn in a disappointing quarter in which the most positive thing CEO Meg Whitman could say is that the company delivered exactly the shrinking finances it had previously predicted. “We once again achieved the financial performance we said we would” Whitman said today, as […]
