Pentax announced today its latest Rugged series of Camera with the WG-3. Capable to withstand the most atrocious condition (for a camera), the WG-3 will feel at east even at 14m under water, -10°c below there, fall up from 2m and even pressure of up to 100kg! Technically speaking the WG-3 is a very capable camera that come with a 16Mpix BSI CMOS Sensor, a 5x optical Zoom, 6 LED lights, 1080/30p video capability, 70MB of internal memory and Eye-Fi support.
If this is actually not enough for …
Along with the WG-10, Pentax has also announced two other rugged camera models: the WG-3 and WG-3 GPS. Both models are waterproof and feature the highest depth rating in the WG series, along with a cold-resistant, dustproof, and crushproof body. You can check out some pictures of the camera, as well as its specs, after the jump.
The WG-3 and WG-3 GPS models are both waterproof to depths of 46 feet (14 meters) and shockproof against drops from heights up to 6.5 feet (2 meters). Both can withstand temps down to 14F (-10C). The big difference between the models is indicated by their names – the WG-3 GPS model can add position and travel log data to images via GPS capabilities. Likewise, the GPS model features wireless recharging, a digital compass, and a gauge showing water depth, altitude, and pressure.
Both cameras feature video recording in up to full 1080p HD, as well as a 3-inch LCD display covered with anti-reflection coating to reduce glares and difficulty seeing. The 16-megapixel CMOS sensor is backlit, there are 12 digital image filters and 16 shooting modes, and support for Eye-Fi wifi SD cards. Because the camera is designed to be rugged, it only makes sense that Pentax included a carabiner strap for both models.
To keep images from coming out blurry, the WG-3/GPS models feature 9-point auto focus, as well as spot auto focus and auto tracking AF. There’s sensor-shift shake reduction, as well as high-sensitivity digital reduction. Both models will be released in April, with the WG-3 being priced at $299.95, and the WG-3 GPS being priced at $349.95.

Think it might be time for a new ruggedized Pentax? It looks like the company agrees — two new models are making their debut this week at CP+. The first is actually a rebranded WG-1, now called the WG-10, which will be available exclusively at Target stores and the website beginning in April. It’s identical to the WG-1, save for the obligatory red finish and a $180 price tag. The second model is more of an original number — it’s an update to last year’s WG-2. The new compact, dubbed the WG-3, maintains the unique design of the other two Optios, including a nifty LED ring around the lens for lighting macro shots.
There’s a 16-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS sensor, a 3-inch 460k-dot LCD, a 4x lens with an f/2 wide-angle maximum aperture, along with options for 1080/30p and 720/60p video capture. It’s waterproof to 14 meters (46 feet), shockproof to 2 meters (6.5 feet) and freeze-proof to -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). The basic version will run you $300, while a tricked-out $350 model adds GPS and Qi wireless charging, along with a secondary LCD that displays the current time, barometric pressure, a compass, altitude and underwater depth. Snag a peek in the gallery below.

Pentax recently announced that they will be making available their range of Pentax Evangelion Q10 limited edition cameras, where these will retail for approximately $650 after conversion, and will of course, sport the colors and design that were inspired by the Evangelion series. Underneath the hood, it is pretty much the same innards as with a vanilla Pentax Q10 shooter, where you will be able to capture 12.4-megapixel stills with its CMOS sensor, while there is also a Removal DRII image sensor cleaning function thrown into the mix that relies on ultrasonic vibrations.
Other hardware and performance specifications include ISO 100 to 6400 (1/3 EV steps), up to ISO 1600 and a 3-inch LCD display for you to preview whatever you have just snapped on the move. Do move quick if you want to pick up one of these puppies, considering how only 1,500 of these will be manufactured and released worldwide. If you are a serious collector, then you might want to make a beeline for it, after all, limited editions of digital cameras are few and far in between compared to say, a video game console.

We’ve seen Neon Genesis Evangelion-branded devices for quite awhile now, and as a testament to the garish-hued series’ longevity, Pentax has announced a special edition, show-themed Q10 series of its own. It’ll release a mere 1,500 of the models in Evangelion heroine shades, starting with the Eva-01 model shown above at a price of 59,800 Yen ($660 or so). Besides showing your love for ’90s anime, that sum will get you a 12.4-megapixel, mirrorless interchangeable shooter capable of Full HD video, while filling out the already-bounteous Q10 color choices from the hue-loving outfit. Stateside fans of the show will likely be disappointed though — it’ll only be sold in Japan, starting in April. Check the source to see the other colors.
