Lytro camera gets manual controls, new colors and accessories for exacting light-field fans

Lytro camera gets manual controls, new colors and accessories for exacting lightfield fans

A frequent gripe of Lytro camera owners has been the hands-off nature of the photography, with that signature infinite focus about the only real fine-tuning that’s on tap. As of a fresh firmware upgrade, the light-field camera is much friendlier to demanding shooters. The unconventional point-and-shoot now lets owners manually adjust the ISO sensitivity (80 to 3,200) and shutter speed (1/250th of a second to 8 seconds) as well as lock the exposure or invoke a neutral density filter. Regardless of their precision demands, anyone who was already sold on the concept still gets a few perks with today’s refresh: the 8GB model now comes in Seaglass green and a Target-exclusive Moxie Pink, and there’s both a $30 sleeve as well as a $60, accessory-friendly case for those who’ve fully committed to the Lytro lifestyle. Neither upgrade will bring higher resolutions or video, but they’ll go a long way towards accommodating those who were at least on the fence. Check out an interactive sample of the shutter speed control’s benefits after the break.

Let’s Hope These Eraser Flash Drives Don’t Erase Your Data

I’ve seen USB flash drives crammed into all sorts of things over the years, but there’s something just so wrong it’s right about these flash drives stuck inside of pink rubber erasers.

eraser flash drive

They’re made by Etsy seller JustJest, and neatly mounted inside of those iconic Pink Pearl erasers we all used in school at some point or another. As I mentioned in the headline, my only concern would be that actually rubbing the eraser on paper would eventually wear it down to the circuitry inside and start messing with your actual data. Of course, you probably wouldn’t ever use it as an eraser. And it’s not likely that you’ll get too much use out of it as a storage device either, since it only comes in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB versions.

Still, it’s a cool design, and I’d own one just to see what people said when I pulled it out to use it. The 2GB version is selling for $20(USD) right now, while you’ll need to contact JustJest for other memory sizes.

Samsung offers Galaxy S III in pink, but only in Korea to start

Samsung adds pink to Galaxy SIII palette

In the last round of color additions to its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, Samsung took a decidedly sombre tone, with new hues like Titanium Gray and Amber Brown. But, according to GSM Arena, the smartphone maker decided to lighten things up this time, going with a pale pink to round out its color selection for the model to a lucky seven — but the new shade will only roll out to Korea, for now. It will go along with the original Marble White and Pebble Blue, plus the aforementioned dark colors which were accompanied by Garnet Red and Sapphire Black. There’s no mention of availability stateside, but if you’ve been thinking of settling for a less capable model to matchy-match with Fifi, now you can go with power and panache.

Nokia Lumia 900 goes all pink in AT&T

Are you mulling over whether to pick up a smartphone that runs on the Windows Phone platform? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would definitely want to check out what Nokia has on offer. After all, the Finnish smartphone manufacturing company has been doing quite well for themselves ever since they concentrated and partnered with Microsoft to deliver great looking smartphones with Windows Phone in tow.

Right now, the high end model of theirs would be the Nokia Lumia 900 which is available in the smartphone market coming in white, black and the hugely popular cyan shade. However, there is always a market for the color pink – and I guess this is why an exclusive model of the Nokia Lumia 900 which is colored pink is being made available for those who want to jive with AT&T.

It goes without saying that the Nokia Lumia 900 is definitely one great looking smartphone, never mind that it does not even need to come in a shade of pink. Boasting a solid polycarbonate construction, it will be accompanied by a beautiful ClearBlack Display, an aesthetically pleasing design, alongside the simple and beautiful Windows Phone operating system. Glad to know that an exclusive shade of pink for the Nokia Lumia 900 is being made available Stateside from AT&T.

Those who have yet to hear about the elegance of the Nokia Lumia 900, here is another chance – this new pink model will not carry anything new internally, but on the outside, you will find a stunning shade of pink which will surely please the fashionista in you. What are some of the hardware specifications that you can find underneath the hood?

For starters, there is a beautiful 4.3-inch touchscreen display, accompanied by a powerful 1.4GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera alongside a Carl Zeiss lens that is capable of shooting stunning images and crisp HD videos. Bear in mind that the pink Nokia Lumia 900 is oozing with quality, since it is not just a case of applying a coat of pink paint on the top layer, but rather, it is made out of polycarbonate so you know that it is constructed of one singular piece of plastic. A scratch on your Lumia 900 will not obviously because of the amazing construction process. Expect to pick up the pink Nokia Lumia 900 from AT&T from this Sunday onwards.

Sony Xperia P blushes in metallic pink

Sony Xperia P blushes in metallic pink

If the black, grey and red hues of existing Xperia P models really weren’t cutting it, Sony has just previewed a new color option — pink. The device made a brief appearance at Sony’s Weibo event, matching the metallic finish of our review model, but throwing in a little extra feminine charm. No news on release regions or dates, but given the Asia-centric reveal, we suspect it’s unlikely to be gearing up for a world tour.

AT&T To Offer Exclusive Pink Lumia 900 Starting On July 15

lumia-pink

If you thought the standard black, white, and cyan Lumia 900s just weren’t eye-catching enough, you may want to keep your schedule clear this Sunday.

Nokia confirmed earlier this year that they would spice up their flagship Lumia 900 line with a splash of magenta, but at the time they were awfully coy about when the device would actually ship. That’s thankfully no longer the case — according to a new post on the Nokia Conversations blog, AT&T will begin taking orders for the rosy Lumia 900 starting on July 15.

It’s a nice enough gesture I suppose, and there’s no such thing as too many choices, but let’s not forget what’s going to be released this fall. Windows Phone 8 is right around the corner and locking into a contract for a pretty new Lumia 900 means missing out on nearly all of the fun.

It seems like Nokia is trying to push as much Lumia 900 hardware out the door as they can at this point, though I’m curious how consumers will feel after Nokia and Microsoft start shifting their attention to their slew of next generation Windows Phones in just a few months. Oh, and in case you were curious, there’s no word yet on if the AT&T-exclusive color variant will see an international release.

Speaking on AT&T, they’re on quite an exclusive color kick this summer. In addition to the pink Lumia, the carrier will also be offering a red Galaxy S III at some point before the days grow short again, though they’ve yet to announce when rabid Samsung fans will be able to snag one.

Nintendo debuts new 3DS variants in spicy summer colors

While we’re still itching to handle its bigger (and more stylish) XL iteration, that hasn’t stopped Nintendo rolling out the acid colors for two Asia-bound handhelds. The 3DS in Cerulean (the bright blue one) and Shimmer (the hot pink version) will hit stores in Hong Kong and Taiwan, accompanying the launch of the 3DS XL in September. No word from Nintendo so far on whether it’ll follow the Aubergine-hued model to the US .
