GTA V continues in-game pet dog customizations with Chop

This week the folks at Rockstar Games have had a bit of an information spill from Grand Theft Auto 5 with details on a customizable pet dog named Chop. This dog will be appearing as partner to one of three main characters in the game and will have “100% customizable” accessories – collars, chains, and everything in-between. We’ll leave it to Franklin to decide what’s appropriate as he rides the line between legitimate and nefarious business once the full game appears.

This information comes from the paperback publication Famitsu and were brought to the web by an intrepid fan board member watamaru to GTA Community. It’s there that the following details were let loose – and please excuse the very basic translation action.

choppin

• Each character has a walk of their own
• You can change the dog’s accessories
• The dog may be lost
• Wild animals will be able to be hunted
• More than 15 unique animals will be running through the game’s environments
• Game will feature a full-fledged underwater mission
• Characters can go for a drive together (Trevor with Michael) on jet skis

Also included are images such as the one you’re seeing below, here reminding us that the game will continue to work with helicopters on the chase, revealing a bit of a speed boat element as it does so. With more than 15 animals on the run, we’re expecting both land-based and aquatic beasts to be appearing – and not just birds as you’re seeing in the backgrounds of many of the shots revealed for the game thus far.

Have a peek at one of the more revealing gameplay videos here as well, and be sure to continue to follow the full-on GTA action through SlashGear’s Rockstar tag portal as we move ever closer to the worldwide release date on 9/17/2013. Or October 10th, if you live in Japan – according to Famitsu, that is.

Have a peek at SlashGear’s Grand Theft Auto V official gameplay video breakdown for analysis from start to finish.

BONUS: for those of you waiting to see dogs in GTA, there’s always odd modifications like the one you’re about to see. We’re expecting one whole heck of an upgrade from this nastiness when the GTA 5 shows their dogs for real.

Vidzone music video streaming app comes to PlayStation 3 users in the US

Vidzone music video streaming app comes to PlayStation 3 users in the US

Music Unlimited has long been Sony’s preferred musical portal on the PlayStation 3, but for those who enjoy video to accompany their music, there’s a new option available to folks in the US: Vidzone. It’s an ad-supported music video streaming service — not unlike the Vevo app Xbox 360 users enjoy — that’s been available to PS3 owners in Europe for years. Now, their US counterparts can enjoy the 55,000 videos in its library and can view them via genre-based channels or build their own custom playlists. Should you prefer content that’s a little less produced, the service also delivers artist interviews and plenty of live events, too. And, whenever you find a new favorite video, you can share it on Facebook. Sound good? You can grab the app yourself from the PlayStation Store or install it directly from the XMB’s TV/Video Services option.

Street Fighter IV DLC brings five new characters to the fold [UPDATE]

With the newest update to the game Street Fighter IV, you’re going to see five new characters, four of which have been revealed this afternoon. While the creators of Tekken aim to add a fighting salmon to the arena, four of the five new characters coming to Street Fighter IV have been revealed to be fan favorites. While we’re not expecting a handheld seafaring creature to be attacking our heroes in this season’s upgrade, the creators of this game have promised an addition “never seen in street fighter before.”

Super-Street-Fighter-IV

With the addition of Hugo, Poison, Elena, and Rolento to the mix, the folks at Capcom’s Evo 2013 panel have thrown a bit of a curve-ball the audience’s way. While each of these first four characters have appeared in previous editions of the game on multiple platforms, the fifth will be one never before played by a user in the wild. At the moment it’s not clear whether this means the character will be entirely new or a translation of a character from the Street Fighter universe to a real fighter as never executed before.

The update will also be bringing on more than just the five new characters. Also in store for users are all previously released costume packs – so good thing you hesitated! This update will also be adding on special costumes designed by Udon Entertainment for each of the five new characters – but only if you pre-order the update before it’s out on the market.

This update will be released through all standard channels and through the NESiCAxLive arcade network in Japan soon. Both Super Street Fighter IV and the still relatively new updated Arcade Edition will have the ability to add this DLC to their iterations of the game. Stay tuned for the rest of the details – including a release date – soon!

UPDATE: This update will be appearing for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC for a cool $15 USD, and you’ll be seeing it in early 2014.

UPDATE 2: Gameplay video released!

Tekken creators set new characters to a vote: Salmon, Praying Mantis, Zombie Bride

In a rather “revolutionary” move for the game with the same name, BNGames and Bandai Namco have let it be known that they’ll be putting the next Tekken character release to a vote, with some rather unorthodox characters on the docket. This game Tekken Revolution for PlayStation 3 will receive an update – eventually – with one of the characters here, be it a “Giant Praying Mantis” or what’s described as an “Average, run-of-the-mill Old Man.” Or will Syake, aka Salmon, be the one to make it to the final software update?

Atlantic-salmon-2

This voting process is rather strange in and of itself. Taking place through the Facebook page of the brand, users are encouraged to vote for the character they’re most attached to. Adding the Salmon character to the mix and making this an online vote will likely bring on the obvious – though perhaps not so obvious to the developers of the game – outcome. Is this the Magicarp of the PvP world, made real at last?

Tekken has in the past brought on some rather wild and crazy characters, Bandai being no stranger to fighters well outside the normal human realm of beings. Even the most recent release of Tekken Card Battle included Kuma, the giant panda.

The salmon is just one of several characters that are already hiding in the code of Tekken 3, this character still existing in a hacked version of the arcade board for said game. This wild beast of a character is described as follows:

“Originally planned for Tekken 3, punch buttons would cause the Salmon to flop around, and the kick buttons would make it release eggs, which was quite an idea at the time. However, arcades were still popular worldwide, and charging 100 yen (1 USD) per play with such a character was likely to be a problem. That, and the fact that character would be always be the target of Kuma lead to the concept being scrapped.”

The rest of the characters appearing on this list include such gems as Female Vampire (A young girl, long imprisoned by the Rochefort family), Female Paul, and GANMI-chan – a “teenage female Sumo wrestler who idolizes Ganyu.” The winning character, again, will appear in a future update of this free-to-play game for the PlayStation universe.

Xbox One, PS4 launch day pre-orders sold out on Amazon

As expected, Amazon has announced that they have run out of their “initial allocations” for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. This means that launch day pre-orders for both consoles have sold out, including the Xbox One Day One Edition. Amazon says they still have standard editions of both consoles available for pre-order, but they can’t guarantee that they’ll arrive on launch day.

Amazon posted about the sold out consoles on their Amazon Video Games Facebook page, saying that it’s been “a crazy and exciting month” for next-generation console pre-orders, but while they announced that they were sold out of launch day pre-orders, they mentioned that they could be receiving more allocations in the future for launch day.

Amazon opened the floodgates for pre-orders for the Xbox One on June 10, so it took just a little over a month for initial supply to run dry. Previously, GameStop was the first retailer to announce that PS4 pre-orders have been sold out, and they stopped taking pre-orders for the console for the time being.

As for the Xbox One, Best Buy was the first to announce the dreadful news that pre-orders have been exhausted and are no longer accepting new orders. We expected that trend to spread to other retailers eventually over the summer, and it seems Amazon is the next one to make the list.

No announcements in the UK have been made yet as far as sold out pre-orders, but we can only assume that as the launch dates keep creeping in, the harder it will be to pre-order a new console. This means that if you’re thinking about hopping on board, now is the best time to do so, since each day that passes poses a risk for more sold out stores to come forward.

PS4 digital library sharing gives you access from any console

Since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are almost identical as far as performance specifications go, it’s merely just a war between features and functionality. Both sides are trying to win over the hearts of gamers with innovation new features that aim to change the landscape of gaming. Sony thinks they have a pretty unique solution in the bag.

sony_ps4_hands-on_sg_4-L-580x388

The company’s R&D senior team boss Neil Brown announced at Sony’s Develop Conference that PS4 gamers can access their purchased games on any PS4 console. Brown also touted the new “play as you download” feature, where you can play games as they’re downloading them to the console.

Essentially, gamers can log in to their accounts from any PS4 console, and they can start playing the first bits of any digitally-purchased game that’s available in their library, even if it’s not from their own console at home. If your friend doesn’t have a specific game that you want to play, the “play as you download” feature is about as good as it gets.

The background downloading while gamers begin playing their games is made possible simply by background processes. Brown says it’s a similar method to what Blu-ray players use, and chunks of the game are copied automatically to the hard drive. After the first few minutes, the game is able to begin playing.

Xbox One has a similar feature where you can begin playing games while they download and install onto the console’s hard drive. However, one huge benefit for the PS4 at this point is the low price tag. Sony’s console will only cost $399 when it launches later this year, undercutting the Xbox One by $100.

GTA V requirements include 8GB install

Those of you out there in gaming land looking to play the next chapter in the open-sandbox free-for-all adventure Grand Theft Auto will be needing to take another look at the amount of space left in your harddrives. The game Grand Theft Auto V has been revealed this week to require a whopping 8GB of space all on it’s own. That’s no small commitment.

actual34894374[1]

For Xbox 360 users, this game will be appearing on two separate DVDs and will require that the first unload the full 8GB of data to your machine’s drive. The second of two disks exists as a play disk, here required for you to run the game (and yes, the 8GB of data is required on the Xbox while the second disk runs).

You can, on the other hand, use a USB stick to keep some of that action off-loaded. According to RockStar, this stick must be “USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use.” Simple enough, yes? Go ahead and grab a few the next time you’re running through a major gaming convention.

Meanwhile the PlayStation 3 iteration of the game will be coming in on a single disk and will also require a full 8GB install. One Blu-ray disk will be in the package you pick up in September and you’ll be seeing essentially the same game on either system.

Sound good for a wait until the 17th of that month? Might you have an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 waiting in the wings by then?

You may want to keep this fact as a lesson for future gaming console purchases as well – working with an Xbox with just 8GB of space on it might seem like a good idea when you see the initial price tag, but down the road you’ll be paying for it with high-powered games such as this!
