GRID 2 Special Edition comes with PS3 and a real car

GRID 2 comes out next week, and you can pre-order it now. The game comes in different editions, though, including a special edition that costs a whopping £125,000 ($189,000). The Mono Edition, as its called, comes with the game, a PlayStation 3 console, a BAC Mono race car (valued at £101,940 ($154,000), and a custom race suit, helmet, boots, and gloves.

The catch is that only one person will be able to buy GRID 2: Mono Edition, because BAC probably doesn’t want to make multiple custom Mono cars. The car and the race gear come with a GRID 2 theme to go along nicely with the game, and the one lucky person to snag this deal will also get to spend a day at the BAC factory in the UK.

The BAC Mono is a road-legal, performance car that you can also race virtually in the game. The Mono’s body is made of carbon fiber and sports a 2.3-liter, 280 bhp four-cylinder engine will propel that allows the car to go from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 170 mph — more than enough to get you to the grocery store and back.

It’s also worthy to note that this GRID 2 special edition package has set a new Guinness World Record for the “Most Expensive Special Edition Video Game Commercially Available.” I guess we say congrats? Either way, it’s available now for pre-order online, and we’re guessing that the first person to hit the buy button will be the lucky chap to own a MAC Mono and a PS3 (and the game too, we suppose).

GRID 2 will be available starting May 28 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. We’ve already seen a bit of gameplay footage and have checked out some of the features that will be available in the sequel, including improved multiplayer with leaderboards, challenges, and car upgrades, as well as LiveRoutes, which changes the course randomly to keep you on your toes.

GTA V Collectors Editions continue legacy of completist addiction

If you’re a lover of the Grand Theft Auto series and absolutely need to own every little bit and piece from the creators of the series at Rockstar Games, you’re about to need to start saving up. Two unique editions of Grand Theft Auto V have been shown this week by he creators of the series – one of them a Special Edition, the other a Collectors Edition.

blimp

This means there will be a least three different editions of the game. While each version allows you the same access to the full retail version of Grand Theft Auto V, the “Standard Edition” brings just that. Each of the three editions offer a pre-order bonus of an “Atomic Blimp” in-game vehicle for “iconic and leisurely” travel through Los Santos.

The Special Edition brings with it a SteelBook with artwork including custom and metallic treatments – strange printing techniques only used in presentations above and beyond the normal call of duty for an art book. A BluePrint map that shows a unique view of Los Santos and Blaine County is included in the package at 21.5 x 26.75 inches large.

The Special Edition will also add special weapons added to the players inventory available for free – melee Hammer, Bullpup Shotgun, and Pistol .50. In-game bonuses also include a “Special Ability Boost” which makes your special ability bar jump 25% faster, Stunt Plane Trials, Bonus outfits, tattoos, and aesthetic differentiators of all kinds.

collectors

The Collector’s Edition includes everything that’s in the Special Edition, adding a Security Deposit Bag with Logo Key, 9FIFTY Snapback Cap, and a set of “classic” Grand Theft Auto characters for customization and use in the Grand Theft Auto Character Creation System.

The Collector’s Edition also adds a garage where users are able to store custom vehicles. Single-player mode has this garage stocked with a 1930′s style Hotknife hotrod as well as a CarbonRS sports bike. The online version will include a “high-end Khamelion electric car.”

And of course the whole lot comes in a fancy collectable outer box with foil-embossed Grand Theft Auto V logo with matte, scuff-resistant film lamination. This Collector’s Edition will run you a cool $149.99 USD while the Special Edition will cost $79.99, and the normal edition will cost you right around $59.99 – choose your fate!

Inmate takes legal action to get computer and PlayStation 3 in cell

When you think of prison, cells with computers and gaming consoles aren’t likely the first things to cross your mind. They are a reality for some prisoners, however, and one Australian inmate has taken legal action over years of being denied a computer and, more recently, an in-cell PlayStation 3 console. Julian Knight is serving 7 life sentences.

ps4_controller_1-580x320

Julian Knight is known as the Hoddle Street killer, having committed one of the worst massacres in Australia over a decade ago in 1987. Knight was convicted of killing seven people and injuring 19, but has confessed to 17 more murders, all things earning him the 7 consecutive life sentences he is serving in prison. The 44-year-old is apparently looking to make those life sentences a little less tedious, because now he’s asking for a PlayStation 3.

The issue started in 2006 when Knight requested to have a computer in his prison cell, claiming it would be used to perform research and to prepare materials to be used later on in a bid to get a release date from the courts. His request was denied. And then denied again. Such denials have continued for seven years now. Such denials have prompted legal action on his part, with the inmate serving a legal subpoena to the government for records of other inmates who have been granted computers.

Said Knight on the issue of the computer: “This cause of action has been going for seven years, this is now the eighth proceeding. I only have to walk around the prison and I can see with my own eyes who has a computer and who doesn’t. I’m the only prisoner who has made applications to have a computer who has had it denied and denied repeatedly.”

And so now, in addition to seeking the computer, he is also seeking to have a PlayStation 3 console in his prison cell. Because Knight is known as a vexatious litigant – someone who takes legal action for the purpose of being annoying, essentially – he is being forced to get permission before proceeding with his legal case, however. Attempts to get electronic devices in prison cells isn’t new, but has been steadily increasing as the world becomes a more digital place.
