Twitch Clamping Down On ‘Non-Gaming’ PlayStation 4 Broadcasts

Twitch Clamping Down On Non Gaming PlayStation 4 Broadcasts

PlayStation 4 owners can use the Playroom feature on their new consoles to broadcast a live stream to game streaming service Twitch. Playroom basically uses the PlayStation Camera to film the user, and it is up to the user if he or she wants to broadcast that content to the world through Twitch. The feature was supposed to be solely used for broadcasts related to gaming, but quite a lot people have been using it for non-gaming and even lewd live streams. Twitch support has reiterated through a series of tweets that its moderators are keeping an eye on the streams and those who don’t adhere to the ToS are at risk of having their accounts suspended.

Twitch’s terms of service clearly lay down the law, is PS4 Playroom feature is being used, the content must be about games and that it shouldn’t be inappropriate or lewd. An obvious violation of the ToS is likely to land the user into trouble, the streaming service would simply just suspend the account. While Twitch works tirelessly so that live streams generated from PS4 fall within its terms of service, Xbox One users wait to get the ability to broadcast live streams from their consoles as well. It was confirmed prior to the Xbox One’s launch that the feature for Microsoft’s latest console will not be available at launch.

    What about the Wii U?

Everyone’s in a tizzy about the “new” console generation, conveniently forgetting that, market-wise, it was already here a year ago with the release of Nintendo’s Wii U. It isn’t as advanced technologically as the new Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox One, but the Wii U’s like the kid who still likes Ninja Turtles when everyone’s moved on to Power Rangers: They might not be as cool, but they’re still your classmate, and they’re still going to graduate with everyone else. Nintendo might seem a little square compared to Sony and Microsoft right now, but it still has the skills to succeed in school.

At launch, Nintendo sold out its entire initial allotment of 400,000 Wii U’s — which looked promising — but after the holidays, sales softened significantly and continued to slide. By E3, the situation wasn’t looking so good. Just a few months later, Nintendo announced a price cut of $50 for the console, reducing its profit on each unit sold. However, the price reduction also moved a lot of units, with the Wii U experiencing a 200 percent uptick in sales for the month of September.

PS4, PS Vita Ultimate Bundle Promo Image Leaked

Just a few days ago, MCV spoke with Sony’s senior product manager Ben Law in regards to the possibility of there being a PlayStation 4 & PlayStation Vita bundle coming in the near future. According to Law, the PS4 / PS Vita bundle is expected to hit this holiday season, although Sony has yet to make any official announcements of the upcoming bundle. As much as we’d love some official news from Sony regarding the bundle, an image published in this week’s issue of MCV of the PS4 / PS Vita bundle is as close to a confirmation as we’re going to get. Twitch cracks down on ‘non-gaming’ broadcasts by PlayStation 4 owners

Faced with an influx of living-room livestreamers and the risqué content that follows, Twitch has begun a crackdown on PlayStation 4 streams. The company has taken to its Twitter account to remind users that broadcasting via the console’s Playroom feature, which uses Sony’s PlayStation Eye camera to stream to Twitch and uStream, must have a gaming focus or risk having their account suspended. Most users, including the husband and wife team behind The Spartan Show, have kept within Twitch’s terms of service, but others have decided the console provides the perfect platform to broadcast sexual content and host non-gaming shows. While Sony already offers the broadcasting service, Xbox One owners will have to wait until “early 2014” to stream their games — either way, Twitch will have quite the job on its hands as gamers test the limits of their new all-seeing consoles.
