Sony To Share PS4 Release Plans On 20th August

Sony To Share PS4 Release Plans On 20th August

While Sony might have unveiled the PlayStation 4 earlier this year, what many gamers are probably wondering is when exactly will the console be released? Well rumors have suggested that Sony will announce a release date during Gamescom and Sony’s confirmation of a 20th August press conference seems to confirm that, and thanks to a recent post on the official Sony PlayStation blog, the company states that during the event, “release plans for PlayStation 4” is expected to be shared. The company also states that there will be updates provided for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita.

The latter is particularly interesting because a recent report has suggested that Sony could be looking to introduce a redesigned PS Vita, although the rumor stated that it was expected to be unveiled during the Tokyo Games Show which takes place in September, so perhaps Sony’s PS Vita update during Gamescom could be something else entirely. In any case we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more information and as it stands, the rumors are pointing at a 21st October release, so hopefully Sony will be able to confirm that for us on the 20th of August!

Sony Viacom deal may bring streaming TV to PlayStation 4

Where the Microsoft-made Xbox One is set to continue the model set with the Xbox 360 as a middle-point between cable and your TV, Sony’s reported deal with Viacom may just remove the third party altogether. According to news reported this week by the Wall Street Journal, Sony has only to lay out the final […]

Xbox One and PlayStation 4 shipping dates show up in Toys R Us listing

The two much-anticipated gaming consoles, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4, have appeared in a listing over at Toys R Us with availability dates attached. Although not confirmed and accompanied by statements that the information is subject to change, the toy store’s listing shows the Xbox One as set for November 29, and the […]

PlayStation 4 cuts fees for online services: Netflix, Hulu, chat included

In a bit of a change-up from past fees from notable console-selling brands, the Sony PlayStation 4 has been revealed this week to be coming without fees for online chat or third-party app streaming for apps such as Hulu and Netflix. This news came aside reassurance that a $50-a-year PlayStation Plus subscription would have a big of a flip in which services it offered. A PlayStation Plus subscription brings a user free online multiplayer – users will not be able to play multiplayer online without this subscription unless the games they are playing are also free-to-play.

Sony’s PlayStation Access let this fact and other bits and pieces be known this afternoon in a Q and A video which also stated the friend limit to have been lifted to 2,000. This will allow you to work with Party Chat with essentially anyone you meet.

You’ll also be able to keep your current PlayStation Network name, avatar, and information therein – it all transfers over with great ease.

This session made note of the DualShock 3 controller not being able to work with the PlayStation 4, also confirming the tip that the PlayStation Move will work just as it does with the PlayStation 3. Sony went on to made certain the distinction between the colors of the original PlayStation 3 (Piano Black) and the PlayStation 4 (Jet Black) to make sure everyone could get the hint – there very well may be different colors for the console once it’s past launch phase.

It was confirmed that the Sony PlayStation 4 will be supporting 3D content, but no confirmation of what or when was made. “We’ll have more news coming soon” is as far as Sony will go at the moment. The PlayStation 4 will have a 500GB drive inside, it was also asserted, and just like the PlayStation 3, users will be able to expand.

Sound good enough for you for now? Let us know how you’re feeling about what Sony’s let the world know so far about this next-generation console and if you’ll be planning on partaking as well!

PlayStation 4 friends list will accomodate up to 2,000 of your best buds

So it seems that PlayStation 4 owners will have more friends than their Xbox One counterparts — well, you know, in theory, at least. Sony announced this morning, by way of rather chipper Q&A video, that the PS4 will have a Party Chat to call its own, along with friends lists that support up to 2,000 users — that’s double the number that Microsoft announced toward the end of May (though, all said, both numbers are a big improvement over the last gens’ 100-person cap). Good news for social PlayStation gamers, though you might want to start saving up now — that’s a whole lot of extra birthdays gifts next year.

Xbox One and PS4 controller pre-orders now live

You might have already pre-ordered your fancy new Xbox One or PlayStation 4 console, but seeing as how the contents only contain a certain number of controllers, you might want a few more for when you have a lot of friends over for game night. Luckily, neither Microsoft nor Sony want you to be short on controllers come launch day, so they’ve opened up pre-orders for purchasing individual controllers.

With that, we now know the price of both the Xbox One controller and the PS4 DualShock 4 controller. Both are priced at $60, which is the same price that you pay for a single game. Furthermore, Microsoft has also revealed pricing for other accessories as well, including the Xbox One headset.

The headset will cost $25, while the Play and Charge kit for the Xbox One controller will cost $25 as well. You can also grab both a controller and a Play and Charge kit in a bundle for $75, which will save you $10 compared to if you bought the two items separately.

All of these items are available for pre-order on Amazon, or you can visit GameStop, Best Buy, or a Microsoft Store (for Xbox One items) to reserve your own units for launch day. If you’re not aware, the PS4 console does come with a headset, so if you’re thinking about going with the Xbox One, be aware that you’ll have to get the headset separately.

The Microsoft Store also is listing a “Day One” 12-month Xbox Live membership for $60, which is the same price it is currently on the Xbox 360. We’ve heard in the past that Microsoft was changing the system up slightly, but price wasn’t yet disclosed. It seems that it’ll cost the same amount as previously for the time being. There’s also no sign of a family sharing package yet, but we’ll probably hear about that soon.

Sony Compares PS4 With Launch PS3 To Show How Slim It Really Is [Video]

With the launch of a new generation of video game consoles comes the assumption the latest and greatest are also going to be the biggest. Many gamers already believe both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be huge eyesores in their living room, dorm or bedroom, but Sony has taken it upon themselves to do a bit of comparing between the launch version of the PlayStation 4 and the launch version of the PlayStation 3. PlayStation 4 developer console appears: confirms original vision

It’s not the most in-depth bit of photography you’ll see today, but for those of you looking to see the PlayStation 4 as it sits in the hands of developers across the planet this summer, this may well be the best you’re going to get. What we’re looking at below (below the first image, that is) is a “leaked” image of the PlayStation 4′s front – or back – not that it matters – as photographed by an intrepid attendee of either Jimmy Fallon‘s showing of said device or E3 2013.

Now we just need to bust open a cabinet at SDCC and we’ll see if they all match! These developer units use the most basic of basics for their outer casing, showing LED lights for on-states and big ol’ bumpers here and there so no drops can harm it. Not that you’ll be wanting to explain to Sony how you dropped your early edition of the PlayStation 4, mind you, but it does seem more hardcore than your average built-it-yourself PC.

Below you’re seeing the image “leaked” today via Gizmodo with a couple different units complete with high-tech tape telling their contents. Above you’re seeing the developer unit shown back in February which was originally only given attention due to its inclusion of the new dual-shock controller. Always remember to look at the whole image!

And for those of you that want to see the final PlayStation 4 hardware – at least as far as Sony’s shared thus far – there’s this sharp piece of work right here. We’ve had our own close-up look at the PlayStation 4 more than once, complete with toggle-less lights and edges so sharp they’ll cut your face open. Make sure you stay tuned as we see how this device fares a the biggest comic convention of the year!
