Sony Believes PlayStation 3 Still Has A Lot Of Life Left

Sony Believes PlayStation 3 Still Has A Lot Of Life LeftWhile Sony might have launched their PlayStation 4 console several months ago, it does not mean that they will focus less on the PlayStation 3. In fact during an interview with GameSpot, SCEA director of hardware marketing, John Koller, stated that there is still a lot of life left in the PlayStation 3 and that everyone should not disregard the PS3’s install base, which at the moment is definitely sitting way higher than the PS4 at the moment. According to Koller, “We believe that the platform has a lot of life left in it. Two, three, four years; we think there’s time left in the platform. It depends on the content. We have a good lineup this year and it looks like a good lineup next year.”

Koller’s comments seem to suggest that Sony would like developers to continue pushing out titles for the PS3 despite the fact that the PS4 is the latest console. We guess developers probably don’t have to be told twice since as Koller pointed out, the install base of the PS3 is greater than the PS4 at the moment, and for publishers and developers to ignore that would be a mistake. “We need to keep fueling that. We really have to keep PS3 alive. And so to do that, we have to further the content. I think there will be a good story for the PS3 over the next year to two years.” So PS3 gamers, if you are still on the fence about upgrading to the PS4, fret not because you would still have a couple of years left to decide.

Gamer Exploits PS Plus Loophole, Free Membership Until 2035

Gamer Exploits PS Plus Loophole, Free Membership Until 2035How many gamers recall the good old days where games could be played without subscription to all sorts of online services? Remember the good old days where you could connect your Sega Game Gear and Nintendo Gameboys with cables and play local multiplayer? Those were the days indeed. In any case nowadays companies such as Sony and Microsoft have implemented online gaming services in which gamers will have to subscribe to in order to take advantage of it, such as Sony’s PS Plus. However thanks to a loophole, one particular PlayStation 4 owner has managed to create a subscription that is valid until the year 2035 without having to pay a single cent.

This stems from the 14-day trial offered by Sony for the PS Plus and due to an error/loophole, the anonymous gamer found that he was able to continuously spam the trial feature until he had accumulated years of free PS Plus service. According to the gamer, “Once you accept the deal, you are allowed to keep extending the 14 free days for free once prompted after confirmation of the free purchase. All you have to do is keep pressing X and you keep getting 14 free days added to your free subscription. The hundreds of email confirmations from Sony all say $0.00″ Sony has yet to comment on the matter and it will be interesting to see if they will honor the gamer’s PS Plus subscription or cancel it entirely.

PS4 Overtakes Xbox One Sales In Australia

PS4 Overtakes Xbox One Sales In AustraliaConsidering that there was a huge PS3 versus Xbox 360 debate back in the day, we guess we can’t be surprised that there is now a PS4 versus Xbox One debate going on. Both consoles were launched at roughly the same time and in terms of sales, both consoles seem to be outdoing one another in different markets. For example the Xbox One led the way in terms of Black Friday sales, while the PS4 dominated in the UK. In fact one analyst seems to be believe that the PS4 will outsell the Xbox One eventually, and perhaps it is starting to look that way over in Australia.

Over in Australia, reports claimed that the Xbox One was initially leading the way in terms of sales during the opening weeks, perhaps due to the fact that the PlayStation 4 was constantly out of stock, which might have led to gamers deciding to go for the Xbox One instead, and allowing the Xbox One to play catchup. However a press release by Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 4 has begun to overtake the Xbox One in terms of overall sales, from the date that the console was launched till the week ending 2nd of February. Will this be a trend that we can expect to see in the future? Or will the Xbox One start to catchup at a later date? What do you guys think?
