Pola Roll: Greatest Toilet Paper Dispenser Ever

While you’re sitting on the pot, the last thing you want to see aimed at your butt is a camera. But in this case, I’ll make an exception. Yes, what you’re looking at here is a toilet paper roll holder made to look like an old Polaroid Land 1000 instant camera.

Just set the Pola Roll on your toilet tank or hang it on the wall, load it up with a roll of T.P., and get down to business. As an added bonus, Charmin is so much less expensive than that overpriced SX-70 instant film.

The Pola Roll is available from doiy. design for €19.95 (~$28 USD). Toilet paper sold separately.

I only suggest that you move quick if you want one, before Polaroid’s lawyers try and flush this thing down the toilet.

Polaroid iM1836 Now Available For Purchase

Polaroid iM1836 Now Available For PurchaseEarlier this year during CES, camera manufacturer Polaroid took the wraps off their entry-level micro four-thirds camera that runs on Android, the Polaroid iM1836. Well the good news is that even after waiting for almost a year and this is the camera you still have your heart set on, you’re in luck as the camera has finally been released and is available for purchase via retailers for a rather affordable price tag of $299. Interestingly enough this is even cheaper than Polaroid had originally announced and ultimately you would have saved yourself $100 in total.

So what can you expect for your money? Well for starters you can look forward to a 10-30mm kit lens that will come bundled with the camera. The camera itself will feature a 18.1MP sensor and a 3.5” touchscreen display, which you can use to interact with its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean user interface. Thanks to its operating system of choice, it is possible that you can look forward to more features and flexibility compared to other cameras that use their own operating system. The iM1836 will come with both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and Full HD 1080p video capture, with Polaroid boasting “DSLR quality” for its photos. If this sounds like a good deal for you, you can hit up Amazon where the camera has been listed as shipping within 2-5 weeks.

Nikon Sues Sakar For Design Patent Infringement Of Its Nikon 1

Nikon Sues Sakar For Design Patent Infringement Of Its Nikon 1Nikon Corporation, with its principal place of business located in Tokyo, Japan, as well as Nikon Inc., having its main place of business located in New York, USA, have collectively come together to file a lawsuit with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Sakar International, Inc.. The charge against Sakar? For allegedly performing an infringement of the design patent as well as trade dress right owned by Nikon. Nikon is looking for an injunctive relief against Sakar in the lawsuit so that the latter will no longer be able to manufacture and sell their Polaroid brand digital still camera that is known as the “Polaroid iM1836″.

We did talk about the Polaroid iM1836 earlier on in the year, where it was touted to be a digital camera which was powered by the Android mobile operating system, making it an early leader in such a department. Nikon claims that the Polaroid iM1836 has infringed upon their Nikon 1’s design, and they are not too happy with it. Nikon also claimed to have “negotiated with Sakar to amicably solve this problem”, but they were unable to arrive at an agreement. Hence, the necessity of a lawsuit (and some lawyers getting a nice payday from this, too).

Do you think that the Nikon 1 is the base design for the Polaroid iM1836, or is Nikon throwing a baseless accusation from the layperson’s point of view? [Press Release]

DNP Socialmatic camera priced, channels Sting for marketing tagline

Polaroid’s second chance has a price, and it’s $299. At that amount though, it’s hard to tell how much the novelty of instant-printing is worth in comparison to less kitschy and more capable options. What’s more, Socialmatic is confirmed to ship with Android. Just imagine what a sepia-tinged faded print will look like six months on.

DNP Polaroid's Polamatic app brings its unique brand of nostalgia to Android

If the multitude of apps with faux-retro photo filters simply isn’t enough, you’ll be happy to know that Polamatic for Android is available today in the Google Play store. Polamatic allows you to adorn your artfully staged cat photos with a choice of 36 different borders, including Polaroid’s classic white frame. Additionally, the app comes with 20 distinct filters and captions with a selection of 24 fonts. Also included is the option to share your photos via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr and even Instagram. GIF-TY Polaroid Camera: Make Flip Books Quickly and Easily

Flip books are awesome to look at and flip through, but they’re not the easiest or quickest things to make. For one, you’d either have to have a really quick trigger finger so you can take sets of burst shots in rapid succession, or a really steady hand so you can record short clips that don’t look off. For the latter, you’d also have to spend some time in front of the computer, editing shots before you can print them out.

Making the entire process of creating flip books quick and easy is the GIF-TY Polaroid camera concept.

    GIF TY

It gives you a physical GIF animation in your hands within minutes of shooting the entire thing.

The GIF-TY is basically a Polaroid camera that uses Z-ink paper. All the user has to do is turn the timer, shoot the 1 to 5 second segment, and hit the print button to make a physical copy of the images. The frames are then ripped and arranged in sequential order, and the flip book is good to go and ready for flipping!

The camera can also capture 720p video, though that doesn’t increase the frame rate. The XS80 is packed inside of a tough waterproof housing – good down to 10 meters. It’s impact-resistant so you can mount it on things like bicycles and motorcycles, and features anti-shake technology. It also has a wide 120-degree field of view for capturing as much of the action as it can. It’s even got a G-Sensor which ensures the image is always upright in case you mount the camera at a weird angle.

Still photos can be snapped in resolutions of 16, five, and three-megapixels as well as VGA resolution. The camera offers three different photo modes including single, burst, and time-lapse. Video and photos are written to a microSD card with up to 32GB of storage. Power comes from an integrated lithium-ion battery and it also has an HDMI output. MSRP for the XS80 is $129.99(USD) and while Polaroid says it’s available now, the products page lists it as unavailable at the time of writing.

Polaroid XS80 Loves A Wet And Wild Lifestyle

Mention Polaroid and chances are the mental image of those instant cameras will come into your mind. After all, the company did come a long way since their humble beginnings, and despite looking as though they were about to fold, […]
