iRecorder, the portable iPhone speaker that looks like a retro cassette player

irecorderThere are some moments in life where the old and the new meet, and retro is always in vogue – it is just a matter of which particular era that should take centrestage at that point in time. Well, the $39.99 iRecorder would be an interesting play of bridging both the old and the new, as it looks like one of those Retro Cassette Players, except that in reality, it carries a very different function – by being a portable speaker for the iPhone.

The iRecorder would play nice with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, anything older than the iPhone 4 would not work. Oh yeah, and one more thing – no longer do you need to keep a pencil around the house handy, as the iRecorder will not eat your tape. Those who grew up in the era where cassette tapes were the most popular choice for listening to music would be able to identify with me. The iRecorder would run on a trio of AA batteries, and connects to your iPhone via the standard issue 3.5mm plug. One thing that bugs me though, the gaudy color in which it comes in does not really appeal to my taste, how about you?

Soundmatters announces DASH7 Bluetooth speaker that is ultra thin

soundmatters-dash7When it comes to high quality portable speakers, there are many names out there in the market. The thing is, the selection process can be rather tricky – so why not pick one from Soundmatters? The name of the company itself is pretty self-descriptive, as Soundmatters was founded by former NASA engineer/audio legend Dr. Godehard Guenther. Recently, they announced that they will be shipping what is deemed to be the world’s slimmest, lightest high-fidelity Bluetooth Speaker, simply known as the DASH7.

The Soundmatters DASH7 happens to come in the form of an extremely flat 0.75” high wireless pocket-portable Bluetooth soundbar as well as speakerphone which will deliver huge omnidirectional sound despite coming in a thin size which will slide into the slimmest purse or jacket pocket. Is this the world’s best travel speaker? That remains to be seen, but frequent travelers who have given all sorts of different portable Bluetooth speakers a go in the past might want to check out the Soundmatters DASH7 and share their opinion on it.

Apart from that, the DASH7 will also feature a 5th generation twoofer and BassBattery for true hi-fi sound, where it is accompanied by an angled stand for direct on-axis high resolution music, which results in a great soundstage with the best stereo separation for serious music listeners. You will be able to pick it up in a choice of three colors – Vibrant Red, Arctic White, and Midnight Black.

The omnidirectional sound that it offers makes it ideal for watching movies or music videos, and it will also include a combo case and stand. The angled stand also offers even higher resolution on-axis listening, while there is a noise cancelling speakerphone that will allow you to answer incoming phone calls even while you are listening to music or movies. The asking price for the Soundmatters DASH7 stands at $249 a pop.

Jabra Solemate Mini perfect for music loving travelers

Jabra-Solemate-MiniA dog’s bark might be worse than its bite, or so the saying goes. How about performance of a piece of consumer electronics that is small in size, but it might be large in capability? I think that is just the perception that Jabra intends to put across with the introduction of the Jabra Solemate Mini, where it might be compact in size, but is more than capable of delivering surprisingly big sound. For those of you out there who tend to do a whole lot of traveling, and yet have a great love for music (and want to share that love most of the time), the Jabra Solemate Mini would seem to be a suitable travel companion, as it is capable of pumping out the tunes of your choice from a compatible source as long as there is juice left within.

Just what kind of performance can we expect from the Jabra Solemate Mini? Well, it is decent enough for everyday music, but if you are thinking of it to roll out an audiophile-worthy experience, then forget about it. We do know that the Jabra Solemate Mini will appeal to the younger crowd though as it comes in red, yellow, blue or black shades later in the fourth quarter of the year for $99 a pop.

Apart from the Jabra Solemate Mini, Jabra has also taken this opportunity to announce an enhanced version of the Jabra Solemate, which would see it come with an enriched sound experience and usability, NFC pairing, and a quartet of eye popping shades – red, blue, yellow and grey. Not only that, the refreshed Solemate will also feature the new Jabra Sound App with Dolby Digital Plus sound, which would pave the way for you to stream YouTube music videos and on-device stored content all the while using the offline feature for playback. This refreshed Solemate, too, will be made available sometime in Q4 this year for $149.99 a pop.

Panasonic announces SC-NT10 portable wireless speaker

When it comes to portable wireless speakers, these are dime a dozen, and with so many models in the market to choose from, which is the main factor that helps you decide? Some folks look at features, others take price into consideration at the top of their list, while there is still yet another group who refers to the brand name before they pry open their wallets. If Panasonic is your cup of tea, then you would do well to check out their latest release, which happens to be the SC-NT10 portable wireless speaker system.

The Panasonic SC-NT10 is, of course, one portable wireless speaker system that offers a whole lot more than one would expect from its looks. This portable wireless speaker system comes with Bluetooth connectivity to hook up with other devices that also “talk” via Bluetooth, and not only that, it has Quad Proof “tough” performance, making it the ideal speaker system for outdoor use, with its innards crammed into a compact size, allowing it to be one extremely portable speaker system. I guess you can more or less call this the modern day boombox of sorts, albeit it is a whole lot more portable, shuns them pesky cables that seem to get all tangled up after a while, and certainly it does not need any “D” batteries to run.

The quartet of “tough” performance traits that the Panasonic SC-NT10 is all about allows it to be used in just about any outdoor setting. The device itself is said to be splash-proof, which means you are able to use it near water areas such as the pool or beach, and since it is also dust-proof, it is well suited for areas such as sandy beaches. Being shock-proof would mean it has already passed drop tests from a maximum of 30”, and being heat/freeze-proof, the device can withstand severe climates. Running on a rechargeable battery that can run for up to 8 hours non-stop, you can also use the SC-NT10 to juice up your smartphone or tablet via USB, now how about that? The Panasonic SC-NT10 Portable Wireless Speaker will arrive in Black and Blue/Black this fall, where it will retail for $99.99 a pop.
