Sony’s PS Vita TV launching in Asia in January, regional pricing TBA

Sony's PS Vita TV launching in Asia in January, regional pricing TBA

Earlier this month, SCEJA president Hiroshi Kawano announced that the PlayStation 4 would hit Japan on February 22nd, a full three months after the console’s mid-November launch in the US. To help ease that pain, however, Sony introduced a new product at the same event: the $100 PS Vita TV. The compact device, which offers Vita-like functionality but with a DualShock 3 controller and TV output, is scheduled to launch in Japan on November 14th. Now, at a pre-Tokyo Game Show event in Japan, we’ve received word that the same box will hit stores in other Asian countries, such as China and Korea, come January 2014, with pricing for those countries yet to be announced. Sadly, it’s still unlikely that the Vita TV will debut in Europe or North America.

PS Vita Price Cut Suggested By Retailer Ad

PS Vita Price Cut Suggested By Retailer AdSometime last week, we did talk about how the PS4 has been rumored to receive a PS Vita bundle for $500 later this year, but that remains to be seen or confirmed, so patience is the only way to see through such rumblings on the grapevine. Well, on a different note, a recently spotted ad over at Target offers a whole lot more concrete information than pure speculation where the PS Vita’s pricing details are concerned – that is, we should be seeing $199 price tags over the PS Vita soon – at Target, at the very least.

This would jive with rumors that Sony could very well make an official announcement concerning a price cut for the PS Vita sometime during next week’s Gamescom. The leaked ad was posted by a member of Blu-ray.com, who claimed that the entire range of PS Vita models will see its price cut to $199.99 as part of a sale that will be happening next week, which would be a discount of $50 to $100 off its normal selling price. Do you think that the PS Vita is long overdue for a price cut by Sony after rather lackluster sales of the portable gaming console since its release in 2011? After all, price cuts tend to result in a temporary boost in sales figures.

Quantic Dream's 12-minute PS4 tech demo is ready for your viewing pleasure (video)

Now that the dust has settled from Sony’s E3 press conference, Quantic Dream’s posted the entirety of its PS4 tech demo, The Dark Sorcerer. Over on the PlayStation Blog, the studio’s director, David Cage, laid out the finer points of their experience with performance capturing and going from flexing the PS3’s graphical muscle to working with the next-gen powerhouse. When it comes to technical details, the Heavy Rain developer’s comedic sketch was rendered at 1080p in real-time (lighting and all), includes one million polygons for the set and just shy of a million for every on-screen character, which each boast 350MB of textures and roughly 40 different shaders.

Impressed with what you see? Cage says it’s bound to get better. As it stands, the engine used for the demonstration is in its first iteration, and is missing features that are scheduled for the final version. “We can feel that we are closing in little by little on the kind of graphic quality we find in CG films,” Cage notes. Venture past the break for the video or hit the bordering source link for more background.
