When Sony first launched the portable console called the PS Vita it didn’t exactly burn up the gaming market. The console wasn’t that popular early on due in part to … Continue reading
Earlier this year, Sony announced their brand new console, the PlayStation 4, and one of the features of the PS4 was the Remote Play feature which was somewhat similar to what Nintendo had in mind with the Wii U and the GamePad, where gamers could mirror what was being played on the screen onto the handheld console. However given that it wasn’t completely necessary, we wouldn’t have been surprised if PS Vita sales weren’t affected, but boy were we wrong! According to a report by MCV, they claim that sales of the PS Vita actually rose during the PS4’s launch week in the UK.
The numbers state that the Vita’s sales rose by 68% during launch week, and rose again by an additional 65% in the following week. According to Sony’s Senior Product Manager, Ben Law, Vita sales are apparently seeing strong week-on-week growth and pointed at the Remote Play as being a huge incentive for gamers to get their hands on the handheld console, describing it as “either as a stand-alone device or as the perfect companion to PS4.” This is undoubtedly extra money that we’re not sure all gamers would be willing to spend on, but the numbers don’t lie. What do you guys think? Any of you decided to get a Vita for Remote Play?
PS4 Helped Boost PS Vita Sales In The UK original content from Ubergizmo.
Christmas came early for quite a few people in the UK who had ordered a £19.99 of PlayStation Vita game Tearaway from online retailer Zavvi. The retailer mistakenly shipping the Tearaway plus PlayStation Vita bundle to a few customers who effectively ended up with a free handheld gaming console. When a retailer messes up in such a way, in which customers aren’t responsible at all, one might expect that the retailer will honor the mishap and bite the bullet. Zavvi seems to have an entirely different idea, after notifying users that it had mistakenly sent the units and asking for them to be returned, it sent a “final notice’ threatening legal action against customers who didn’t send their units back.
Zavvi’s notice gave customers until 5 p.m. UK time today to contact them and arrange for the mistakenly shipped units to be picked up. Those who fail to do so are told that the reserves “the right to enforce any and/pr all legal remedies available to us.” What Consumer, a consumer advice website, says that as per the Distance Selling Regulations, those who have received unsolicited goods “are entitled to treat them as an unconditional gift,” and are free to do with them as they choose. What do you think, should the retailer just accept the loss and not threaten customers with legal action? After all, the customers weren’t involved in the PS Vita units being mistakenly shipped from its warehouse. [Image via Eurogamer]

Just a few days ago, MCV spoke with Sony’s senior product manager Ben Law in regards to the possibility of there being a PlayStation 4 & PlayStation Vita bundle coming in the near future. According to Law, the PS4 / PS Vita bundle is expected to hit this holiday season, although Sony has yet to make any official announcements of the upcoming bundle. As much as we’d love some official news from Sony regarding the bundle, an image published in this week’s issue of MCV of the PS4 / PS Vita bundle is as close to a confirmation as we’re going to get. Fans of the long-running Persona series of role-playing games and animes are in for a triple helping of new material. Atlus, the maker of the games, announced the upcoming titles one at a time over the course of this weekend’s Persona event. Their Japan releases will be staggered over the coming 12 months. First off, […]
It’s the hardware marriage we all assumed (and hoped) would eventually happen. A report over on gaming site MCV claims Sony is planning to offer an ‘Ultimate Edition’ PlayStation 4 bundle that would include its portable console, the PS Vita, as a pack-in for the UK. Further corroborating this rumor is an alleged image of the bundle (pictured above) said to be featured in MCV‘s upcoming print edition. If this turns out to be true, Brits could very well see the next-gen PlayStation combo hit retail in time for the holidays, although there’s no word on how much it’ll cost. Aside from being a match made in gamer heaven, the purported move is somewhat of a no-brainer for Sony, given the PS4’s much touted Remote Play functionality (which streams next-gen games to the handheld) and the Vita’s less-than-stellar install base. With about a month to go before holiday mania sets in, we should know sooner rather than later just how real this bundle fantasy is and whether it’s also destined for US shores.

Own a PlayStation Vita and a PlayStation 4? Then you’ll know just how awesome the PlayStation Vita’s remote play app works, allowing you to essentially take your console with you on the go as you can access it remotely. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t announced a bundle that will offer both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, although they’ve admitted they’re reconsidering this idea. It looks like that reconsidering may have done Sony some good as MCV is reporting the company will release an “Ultimate Bundle” that includes both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this holiday season. PS4, PS Vita ‘Ultimate Bundle’ Coming In Time For The Holidays [Report] original content from Ubergizmo.
Remember yesterday we reported that Diablo 3 for the PlayStation 4 would not support Remote Play? According to the game’s senior level designer, Matthew Berger, at that time he stated that the reason behind this was due to the PS Vita’s smaller screen, where a lot of the action might be missed and where things could get cramped because of it. Basically at the end of the day, Berger seemed to be saying no to Remote Play, at least for now, but did state that it was on Blizzard’s mind. Interestingly it seems that the developer might have had a change of heart because in a statement Berger made to GameSpot, he was quoted as saying, “As long as PS4 supports Remote Play, Reaper of Souls will support it.”
We’re not sure if this means if Remote Play will be available for Diablo 3 right out of the box, or if his statement was simply to say that yes it will be coming, but they will have to figure it out first, such as the different aspect ratios as well as trying to fit everything onto a smaller screen. Either way presumably this is good news for PS Vita owners who are planning on getting Diablo 3 for their PlayStation 4 console.
Diablo 3 For PS4 Will Support Remote Play After All original content from Ubergizmo.
At the moment Blizzard’s Diablo 3 is playable, as far as consoles are concerned, on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, but is expected to make its way onto next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 come 2014. Not only is this great news for PS4 gamers, but given the fact that the Sony PlayStation 4 console will support remote streaming onto devices like the PS Vita, essentially allowing gamers to take the game mobile, wouldn’t this be a pretty awesome feature for Diablo 3? Unfortunately that will not be happening, at least according to the game’s senior level designer, Matthew Berger.
According to Berger, “The Vita is an amazing piece of kit, but the screen is still smaller,” he said. “And when you look at–and also it has its own aspect ratio–and when you look at Diablo III, there’s a lot happening on-screen already. You get surrounded by your enemies, lots of effects flying off in every direction. The inventory can be pretty complicated to navigate sometimes when you have lots of items.” While it seems like a “no” for now, Berger did state that Remote Play is something that the company is still thinking about, but until Blizzard says otherwise, try not to get your hopes up just yet. What do you guys think? Any would-be PS4 gamers love the idea of being able to stream Diablo 3 on their PS Vita consoles
PS4 Remote Play For Diablo 3 Unlikely Due To PS Vita’s Screen Size original content from Ubergizmo.
Sony announced today that it is rolling out PS Vita 3.00 system update. The latest update for its portable console brings a number of new features, including a new app called PS4 Link, one that would be appealing for those PS Vita owners waiting to pick up a PlayStation 4 come November 15th. PS4 Link app basically makes the Vita a companion device to the console, as through this app, gamers can connect the Vita to the PS4 for Remote Play as well as a second screen for the PS4.
PS4 Link app lets users remotely control their PS4, also play a range of PS4 games on their Vita and display information from a game that supports second screen on to their portable console. This PS Vita update also adds the parental controls app to the home screen, through which duration of game play and use of videos and games with parental controls can be managed. Access to certain areas of the system such as location data and the internet browser can also be managed through this app. There’s also a new content manager in included in this update that lets Vita owners connect it with a PS3 over Wi-Fi to transfer data between both consoles. Other changes include improvements to the layout of Friends and Messages apps, and the addition of a new panoramic camera setting.
