Vidzone music video streaming app comes to PlayStation 3 users in the US

Vidzone music video streaming app comes to PlayStation 3 users in the US

Music Unlimited has long been Sony’s preferred musical portal on the PlayStation 3, but for those who enjoy video to accompany their music, there’s a new option available to folks in the US: Vidzone. It’s an ad-supported music video streaming service — not unlike the Vevo app Xbox 360 users enjoy — that’s been available to PS3 owners in Europe for years. Now, their US counterparts can enjoy the 55,000 videos in its library and can view them via genre-based channels or build their own custom playlists. Should you prefer content that’s a little less produced, the service also delivers artist interviews and plenty of live events, too. And, whenever you find a new favorite video, you can share it on Facebook. Sound good? You can grab the app yourself from the PlayStation Store or install it directly from the XMB’s TV/Video Services option.

Sony PS4 dev kit FCC filing shows off extra ports, 2.75GHz max clock frequency

Sony PS4 dev kit FCC filing shows off extra ports, 275GHz max clock speed

Sony proudly showed off its PlayStation 4 hardware for the first time at E3, and now we’re getting a peek at what developers are working with this generation thanks to the FCC. The DUH-D1000AA prototype Development Kit for PS4 is listed in these documents, tested for its Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi radios. As one would expect, the diagrams show it eschews the sleek design of the consumer model for extra cooling, a shape made for rack mounts plus extra indicator lights and ports. Also of note is a “max clock frequency” listing of 2.75GHz, and although we don’t know how fast the game system will run by default, it’s interesting to hear what all that silicon may be capable of (as a commenter points out below, that may relate to the system’s 8GB of GDDR5 RAM) while maintaining a temperature between 5 and 35 degrees celsius. Hit the link below to check out the documents for yourself, after seeing this and the system’s controller become a part of the FCC’s database all we’re left waiting for is Mark Cerny’s baby.

Mad Max video game full gameplay trailer tips Xbox One and PS4 digs

It’s a rather hopeless landscape that makes up the Mad Max game, and the movie series that it represents. Here in this week’s first gameplay trailer for the title, you’ll find the “soul of a man” song turning the Australian outback’s post-apocalyptic sensibilities back on a 2013 title for devices both current and next-generation in name. While the story is based in hopelessness, the conservation of fuel and scrounging for firearms and food, Mad Max will have a few more rounds to blast.

max

While the Mad Max movies will be remembered for their epic car chases and unique pre-steampunk style, the dark tone and starving nature of man’s state of affairs after a massive world war will indeed be translated to this game title. At least this first “gameplay” trailer says it will. Complete with a lovely rendition of a country song made to tug at your heartstrings, (Soul of a Man – Steven Stern) this 1.5-minute spot has a few missing elements as well.

There’s no dog, for example. While the dog doesn’t appear throughout the Mad Max series as a staple from the start of each film to the end, the idea that the creators of this game could have added a dog but didn’t will have some die-hard fans weeping. The same goes for the main character. That’s not Mel Gibson.

agw

You’ll have noticed – if your eyes are attuned to such things – that the vast majority of the clip does not actually feature gameplay as such. Instead you’ll have to pick and choose scenes where you’re actually diving in on driving and shooting – the rest is made up of some rather impressive looking cut-scenes.

as

This says a lot about the final product, mind you. If the final game doesn’t look half as good as the scenes we’re seeing here, at least they’ll be interspersed with the good stuff while the gameplay attempts to make up for it.

awgwe

You’ll at least be driving a vehicle in part of the game, fighting with hand-to-hand combat and 3rd-person sharpshooting in the other. That seems clear.

wage

The original E3 announcement trailer shows a bit more on the ins-and-outs of the title – on the tenor, at least. Fans of Mad Max that’d been playing Fallout in wait for a real Road Warrior title will be finding themselves tickled – or run over by the black heat.

Sony’s four pillar approach to game publishing on PlayStation 4 aims to level the playing field

Sony’s already said that it’s making game publishing on PlayStation 4 even easier than it is on the PlayStation 3, but Senior Account Manager of Development at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Agostino Simonetta today explained exactly what that means. Sony’s apparently applying a “four pillar” approach to publishing, as follows:

  1. “Every developer is a publisher”
  2. “Equality of opportunity”
  3. “Personal relationship”
  4. “No hurdles, just games”

It’s this multi-tiered approach that Sony believes will attract developers to the PlayStation 4. “Every single developer is a publisher, as far as we’re concerned. We don’t separate, we don’t segregate indies from traditional publishers,” Simonetta said, in reference to the current console generation’s “segregation” of indie (primarily digital) games from more traditional publishers (primarily disc-based). More specifically, individual devs can work with Sony one-on-one to establish promotions and other details. Perhaps most importantly, all developers will hear back on publishing approval within one week from Sony. Head to the source link below for more details from Simonetta, straight out of the annual Develop conference.

Grand Theft Auto V official gameplay video breakdown

Rockstar Games released the first gameplay video for GTA V yesterday. It was merely just a introduction to the game with narration in the background, but it was the first time we ended up seeing actual gameplay footage of the upcoming game. We saw the usual Grand Theft Auto shenanigans, but there’s so much more that you may have missed during the gameplay video.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 10.13.07 AM

Of course, you already know that GTA V will consist of three main characters that you’ll be able to switch between freely in the game. These characters include Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, all of whom have vastly different personalities, but they seem to work together nicely in the game.

However, during the character introductions in the video, you have spotted a quick look at a Rottweiler dog following Franklin around (pictured above). Does this mean that players will be able to have pets in the game? Further along in the video we also see gameplay footage of a dashcam ride-along in one of the police cars during a pursuit. Does this mean that players will be able to act as police officers and attempt to catch one of the characters. It doesn’t really seem plausible, but we’ll see what happens.

As for things you can customize in the game, Rockstar gives us a peek at the customization options of cars, including getting a new paint job and new wheels. There’s also a bar graph in the lower-left corner that shows you the car’s performance ratings, such as top speed and acceleration, hinting to the possibility that you’ll also be able to upgrade performance and add things like turbochargers and upgraded air intake kits. There’s certainly a lot more you can do with your car than what Pay ‘n’ Spray offered in past GTA titles.

You’ll also be able to buy new clothes, which we’ve seen in past GTA titles, but the quick glimpse that we received of this feature looks as if buying new clothes will be a lot more immersive than previous GTA iterations, and it seems there will be a lot more styles to choose from to get just the right fashion look.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 10.25.59 AM

As for different activities that you’ll be able to do in the game, the video reveals a handful of them, including golf, tennis, cycling, base jumping (or it could be skydiving), and even hunting. You can even meditate in the game, which sounds weird, but we’re guessing that all of these various activities have an effect on your characters health and overall stat points, so by doing these activities and sports, you can improve your characters.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 10.26.32 AM

We also get a quick look at multiplayer in Grand Theft Auto V, which Rockstar is calling Grand Theft Auto Online. The gameplay video doesn’t show much — merely just a guy looking out from a building at all these other players while a fighter jet passes by. And yes, it looks like multiplayer will allow the ability to fly fighter jets.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 10.29.05 AM

Other tidbits that we see in the video include the ability to buy stock in companies (Ammu-Nation, for example, allows you buy stock in the company), and players can even get into the real estate business to look for a property to buy. The game includes many features that we’ve seen in past GTA titles, but they’ve all been cranked up to 11 to include more options and immersiveness.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 10.28.32 AM

Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17 this year for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No word yet on if the game will be heading to PC, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Rockstar also didn’t mention availability for next-generation consoles, but that doesn’t seem like that’s in Rockstar’s plan as of now.

PlayStation 3 adds Now TV in the UK, offers access to Sky Movies and Sky Sports

PlayStation 3 adds Now TV in the UK, offers access to Sky Movies and Sky Sports

Sure, the PlayStation 3 is going to be making way for the new generation soon, but something tells us folks won’t complain about having access to more entertainment on Sony’s aging console. To wit, Now TV’s just announced that its video services have reached yet another audience, allowing those in the United Kingdom to watch Sky Movies and Sky Sports via the PS3. While subscribers can currently stream a good amount of live sporting events and some relatively new movies, Now TV has promised that additional content from Sky is “due to be added this year” — such as programs from Sky 1, Sky Arts, Sky Living and US shows.
