Amazon LOVEFiLM PS3 on-demand app tweaked with Watchlist and HD

Amazon’s new LOVEFiLM app has made its debut, with PS3 owners the first to experience the streaming media service’s new search, recommendation, and watchlist UI on their consoles. The update – which will eventually be pushed out to all LOVEFiLM Instant platforms, including Xbox 360, Wii U, and others – now allows subscribers to build out a playlist of titles for those late-night “let’s slump in front of the TV and not have to move to change what’s on” sessions; PS3 owners also get a bonus in the shape of high-definition content support.

Although watchlist functionality has been present for Netflix US on-demand subscribers for some time, the ability to create a playlist has been largely absent outside of that country. In the UK, for instance, Netflix lacks the ability to create a “My Queue” list, despite regular requests from users.

Now, though, LOVEFiLM users in the UK and Germany will be able to line up a number of shows to watch, with the list synchronized across all apps and sites that are logged into the same account. There’s also a new homepage layout, which includes a “last viewed” widget with details on what was last played, what device played it, and what viewing point was reached, making it easier to resume.

Otherwise, there’s new search functionality and an updated recommendation engine, and LOVEFiLM has tweaked the UI in general to make things easier to navigate. The new PS3 app is available now, though LOVEFiLM hasn’t said when exactly those with other internet-connected devices will get it.

Beyond: Two Souls Highlighted In 35 Minute Gameplay Trailer

During last year’s E3, Quantic Dream revealed its next upcoming game, Beyond: Two Souls. Since then, we haven’t heard a lot about the game which stars Ellen Page and Williem Dafoe, but Sony has released a gameplay trailer that we know you’re going to want to sit back and watch.

The 35-minute gameplay demo of Beyond: Two Souls was revealed as part of a two hour-long panel this weekend during the Tribeca Film Festival, which had both Page and the game’s director David Cage sharing some information in regards to the game to those who attended the event. The gameplay demo was chosen carefully as a way “to avoid many of the major, major spoilers” in the game, according to The PlayStation blog. (more…)

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified lands on August 20

If you’re a fan of the videogame XCOM: Enemy Unknown, you will be very interested to hear about a new game in the franchise. This new game isn’t a sequel or a follow up to Enemy Unknown, rather it goes into the original story behind what happened before the events in Enemy Unknown. The new game is called The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.

The game will launch in North America on August 20 with the international launch set for August 23. 2K will offer the game on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows computers for $59.99. The game is set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War. The storyline takes players into the original story for the clandestine XCOM organization and its first encounter with the enemy.

In the game, The Bureau was initially established to provide covert defense against the Soviet Union. Players will play as Special Agent William Carter leading a squad of agents to defeat the unknown enemy. 2K promises that the game will offer calculated combat designed to force players to think and act tactically.

The Bureau will be a third person perspective game and players will be able to transition in and out of a unique Battle Focus ability. The game also uses the concept of permanent consequence making each decision that the player makes effect the outcome of the game. The game is up to pre-order right now and those who do pre-order will get a special Codebreakers side mission as a bonus.

XCOM FPS Becomes ‘The Bureau: XCOM Declassified’; Releasing August 20

Before XCOM: Enemy Unknown was made available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a turn-based strategy game, it was supposed to be a first-person shooter. The XCOM shooter mysteriously disappeared with its existence not even acknowledged by 2K Games of Firaxis, but today, both companies have announced its FPS XCOM game will finally be made available later this year.

The game will be called The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and will take place in 1962 back when John F. Kennedy was in the White House and will play as the origin story for the modern XCOM initiative, which we’re sure by now you’re aware is what we experienced in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. In XCOM Declassified, players will assume the role of Special Agent William Carter as he takes customizable agents into the field. Gameplay will be in real-time, which is a departure for the series since its previous games have been turn-based, and the death of squad mates will still be permanent. (more…)

PlayStation 3, PS Vita Owners Can Now Queue Downloads Via PSN Web Store

PlayStation 3, PS Vita Owners Can Now Queue Downloads Via PSN Web Store

Being able to download demos, arcade titles and downloadable content onto your Xbox 360 from the comfort of your home office is as easy as queuing up each download to your account to then begin downloading the next time you turn on your console. It’s certainly a feature I use on a regular basis, and one that took way too long to be made available on the PlayStation 3, which Sony is announcing today.

Just like with the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 can now queue a download to your console through its PSN web store. Sony offers a better solution than Microsoft does as they make it possible for its PS Plus subscribers to have these downloads initiate automatically during their PlayStation 3′s scheduled automatic update time. Non-PS Plus subscribers will still be able to download software, but just like the Xbox 360, it’ll occur the next time you turn your console on. Today’s feature is also available to PS Vita owners as well. (more…)

Make your PlayStation 3 look that much more like a Terminator robot with a ‘Metallic Gray’ DualShock 3

Make your PlayStation 3 look that much more like a Terminator robot with 'Metallic Gray' DualShock 3

Tired of how much your PlayStation 3 doesn’t look like a Terminator robot? Us too, especially given that hilariously mechanical new top-loading disc drive cover. Thankfully, Sony sympathizes with our plight, announcing this week that its “Metallic Gray” DualShock 3 controller for the PlayStation 3 will arrive in the United States in a few months (it’s been available in Japan for some time). On June 3rd, the controller becomes available for the standard DS3 price of $54.99, and interested parties can pre-order right this second if they so choose. Of course, we don’t anticipate a shortage when they arrive this June, but it’s always possible that a T-800 will be sent back from the future to accessorize. In which case, you pre-order folks end up looking pretty good.

Skyrim Legendary Edition Coming June 4 To PC, Xbox 360, PS3

We caught wind of Bethesda possibly planning on releasing a “Legendary Edition“ of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim due to Polish retailer Ultima leaking its existence by listing it prior to the company’s big announcement. The game promises cooperative gameplay as players take the role of Star Trek heroes Captain Kirk and Spock. To succeed in the game players will have to work together and the developers behind the game say that this is the most expensive and authentic Star Trek experience ever developed for the video game platform. The video game uses costumes and set designs from the previous film and a musical score performed by a 100-piece orchestra. The game is based on an original story written by Marianne Krawczyk.

Other actors from the movie are also lending their voice talents the videogame including Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, and Karl Urban as bones. The game is available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $59.99. Computer gamers can purchase the game as a digital download through Steam and other locations for $49.99. The game is rated T for teen.
