If there’s anything that can really ruin your day it would be loading up a game only to find that your saved files have been saved over by a friend or sibling, or finding that your save files are corrupt which basically means that the hours you spent in the game progressing and collecting gear has been all for naught. Well the bad news is that this seems to be an issue affecting Sony PlayStation 4 gamers who are reporting that their consoles are corrupting their save files, resulting in lost progress and even unplayable games.
This is not a rare occurrence as many gamers have since posted to the forums about this issue, where the forum thread has ballooned to about 34-pages and counting. The error code has been reported as “Error CE-34878-0” and is not limited to a specific game. Gamers complaining about the error come from a variety of games such as NBA 2K14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. For the most part the error means the file has been corrupt, but in rare cases it also renders the game unplayable. So far the remedies for this is to either delete the save file entirely, or get a full console replacement, although Sony has yet to officially acknowledge the issue themselves and provide a solution.

Sony PlayStation 4 or Microsoft Xbox One? We’re sure both platforms have their pros and cons that hardcore fans can spend days arguing over, but does it really matter? To a certain extent it does matter because gamers have to choose between platforms due to each platform offering different games and different exclusives, such as God of War for Sony, Halo for Microsoft, and the Mario franchise for Nintendo, so yes, to a certain point it matters which platform gamers choose. However despite these differences, Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb stated that the online hate from all camps needs to go away. (more…)

One of the features of the Sony DualShock 4 controllers for the PS4 is that it comes with an LED light at the back. It’s not exactly a big deal but apparently some players have complained that the LED light drains battery and can prove distracting as the LED light can reflect off the television especially in low-light situations. Now it wouldn’t take much for Sony to allow for an option to disable the lighting, but according to Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, it seems that disabling it is out of the question, at least for now. Yoshida states that it does not drain too much battery so it should not reduce the DualShock 4’s battery life by much.
For those wondering what the LED light on the controller does, it was initially thought that it was meant to be used in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera, but apparently those plans have been scrapped for now. However in the meantime the LED lights allow PS4 gamers to sign in automatically, and will be able to associate the correct layer with the correct gamer tag. In games like Killzone: Shadow Fall, the LED lights can be used to help show the player’s health, which can be handy at times. We’re not sure if Sony ever plans on allowing gamers to disable it completely, but in the meantime is anyone particularly annoyed by it in their gaming sessions?

It seems like each time I get a new game console or computer it feels like I will never use all the storage space on the hard drive. Then before I know it, I am having to decide what I want to ditch to get enough space on the drive for new items. If you own a PS4 and you want to upgrade the HDD, the good news is that it is a user serviceable part.
It won’t void your warranty to replace the drive that comes from Sony inside the PS4 with a larger capacity HDD or faster SSD from OWC. The company has a pair of SSD upgrades for the PS4 with 240GB or 480GB of storage and faster access speeds. The 240GB SSD kit sells for $219 while the 480GB version is $399.
The HDD upgrade kit with a 1TB drive is $99.99 with the 1.5TB HDD upgrade kit selling for $149.99. All of the kits include everything you need including the new drive, flash drive for data transfer, instructions, screwdriver, and even a USB enclosure for the drive you take out of the PS4.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are the latest consoles available in the market at the moment and while there are several games available for either console at the moment, it is obvious due to their recent availability that there aren’t as many games compared to previous generation consoles, although we expect that more will be on its way. However if you realize that developers are taking longer than normal to push out these games, it’s not because they don’t want to develop for either console, but it’s because it might actually take longer for them to create games for the PS4 and Xbox One compared to their predecessors.
While we’re sure each developer has their own methods of developing games, over at Capcom they have admitted that due to the complexity of next-gen consoles that it might actually take 8-10 times longer to develop a game. Speaking to the Official Xbox Magazine, Capcom senior manager, Masaru Ijuin was quoted as saying, “It’s clear that heightened game quality leads to a rise in the number of man hours. The amount of work involved in making games for next-gen consoles is eight to ten times greater than what is required for the current generation of consoles.” Like we said each studio probably has their own system of developing games, but in case you were wondering why it’s taking a bit long for games to hit the market, here’s one of the reasons why.

I clearly remember one of the early debates that concerned the PSOne and the Nintendo 64 – the latter had virtually no load times thanks to the use of a cartridge, while you could grow a beard while waiting for Gran Turismo to load a particular track. Having said that, all consoles in the years after that used some sort of optical media format like DVDs or Blu-ray discs as it was a whole lot more affordable than cartridges, not to mention the huge amount of information that they can carry. Rayman Legends, it seems, will not feature any load times whatsoever on the Sony PS4 and Xbox One, which is an extremely interesting proposition.
