WWE Network Headed to Game Consoles, PCs and Mobile

I haven’t watched a wrestling match since the days of André the Giant and the Hulkster back in the 80′s. I know tons of people still like the WWE and spend lots of money to see the wrestling matches in person and on pay-per-view. I’ve also seen those events on the PPV schedule and they are anything but cheap. At CES 2014, the WWE announced the pending launch of a new streaming network.

The network is called the WWE Network and it will be available on tablets, smartphones, PCs, Macs and game consoles starting on February 24. I think most people will watch the WWE Network on their PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360 on the big screen in the living room. WWE says that an app for the Xbox One will come later.

The service is slated to cost $9.99(USD) per month with a six month contract. For the money, you will get access to 1500 hours of archived content for on-demand streaming at launch. You will also get access to all 12 live PPV events, including WrestleMania. If you were going to watch those events anyway, you might save some money with a subscription to the WWE Network.

If you’re interested in finding out more about what the WWE Network includes, check out their FAQ here, or view a service demo here.

Skyrim For Xbox One And PS4 Turns Out To Be A Mistake

Skyrim For Xbox One And PS4 Turns Out To Be A MistakeRemember earlier we reported that thanks to a sighting on Bethesda’s website, it was suggested that Skyrim could be headed onto next-gen consoles like the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4? Considering that both consoles offer vastly improved graphics and performance over their predecessors, we’re sure many are happy and curious as to how the game might fare on newer consoles. Unfortunately as it turns out, it was simply a mistake, or at least that’s what Bethesda wants us to believe. Taking to Twitter, Bethesda’s Pete Hines revealed that the false listing was due to a bug on their CMS platform, causing it to display additional platforms for some of their games. It certainly sounds like an odd bug but we guess until Bethesda tells us otherwise, that’s the story we’ve got for now.

According to Hines, “We have been working on the CMS that runs our sites. A bug caused platforms that don’t exist to show up for some games  Sorry for confusion.” Skyrim was launched on the PC, Xbox 360, and the PlayStation 3 a while ago. Microsoft’s Xbox platform managed to gain an exclusive over the PS3 and the PC and had DLCs released for their console first. As you might recall Bethesda had a hard time bringing those DLCs over onto the PS3, leaving PlayStation gamers DLC-less while Xbox and PC gamers enjoyed themselves. In any case it looks like the hopes of Xbox One and PS4 gamers have been dashed for now, but what do you guys think? Would you have loved to have Skyrim ported onto next-gen consoles?

Alien: Isolation To Run At 1080p On Xbox One And PS4

Alien: Isolation To Run At 1080p On Xbox One And PS4I don’t know about you, but generally speaking, all games look a whole lot better at a higher resolution. As to whether they will play better, that remains to be seen. I clearly remember turning down all of the graphical details in Quake to Quake 3 in a deathmatch to exact the best framerate possible. For those who are interested in Alien: Isolation, you will be pleased to hear that this particular title is set to run at 1080p on both the Xbox One and Sony PS4. The thing is, existing generation consoles have yet to be confirmed.

This confirmation of 1080p resolution for Alien: Isolation was confirmed by Creative Assembly, using their official Twitter feed by informing fans that they were “Happy to confirm that the game will run in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!” This particular game will continue in the rich history of the Alien series, where you will follow Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda as she creeps around a derelict space station and stumbles upon some Genestealers. Nah, I jest, she was up and about to search for clues for her mother’s whereabouts. Expect Alien: Isolation to launch on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Will Utilize DualShock 4′s Built-In Speakers

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Will Utilize DualShock 4s Built In SpeakersIf you have ever played the Nintendo Wii or the Wii U, you know that the controllers have built-in speakers which are used sometimes to highlight certain parts of the game, such as when you play Mario Kart in which the built-in speakers will alert you to incoming red and/or blue shells. It’s a pretty nifty feature and certainly does add on to the experience, and it is exactly these types of features that Hideo Kojima will be taking advantage of with the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros. The game is scheduled for a release on the 18th of March and in the meantime, Kojima has been busy testing out the controls of the game across a variety of platforms.

However in a tweet, Kojima revealed one of the upcoming features for the PlayStation 4 version of the game in which the game would take advantage of the DualShock 4’s built-in speakers. According to the tweet, Kojima wrote, “Back to checking the game on PS4 today. Donna-san’s voice will come out of the speaker on the Dualshock 4 controller. lol” By “Donna-san”, presumably he is referring to Donna Burke, an Australian voice actress who will be lending her voice to the game. He also include a photo above which shows him (we can only assume it’s him) holding the controller. It seems like a novel feature but like we said in the case of the Wii/Wii U, it definitely added to the overall experience.

PlayStation Now Hands On: Hey This Thing Actually Works

So PlayStation Now works. Like really. Like what the heck are you sure there isn’t a PlayStation tucked away behind this TV and hidden somehow behind this Vita works. It’s incredible because it doesn’t feel incredible, if that makes any sense. You can play streaming games without any game console, and that’s pretty damn impressive.

Sony PS4 Sales Leave Xbox One Far Behind With Over 4.2 Million Units Moved In 2013

Sony PS4 Sales Leave Xbox One Far Behind With Over 4.2 Million Units Moved In 2013

[CES 2014] It has been a while since Sony has talked about PlayStation 4 sales statistics. Microsoft knows that too, and it broke its silence yesterday to announce that in 2013 the company was able to sell over three million Xbox One units, after it was launched in mid-November. We knew that it was just a matter of time before Sony came out with a number of its own, and as it turns out, the number is bigger than Microsoft’s. At CES 2014 today, Sony has formally announced that during the time the PS4 was available in 2013, the company sold over 4.2 million units around the globe.

Though it warrants mentioning here that the PS4 had a bit of a head start. Sony launched its new gaming console on November 15th whereas the Xbox One came out on November 22nd, but the former was launched in fewer markets than the latter, which was initially offered in 13 markets. In two weeks after launch, Sony was able to sell 2.1 million units around the world while in the first 24 hours of availability, sales topped 1 million units. The figures are impressive, there’s no doubt about that, and they’re bound to climb up in 2014, the year has just begun. The PS4 vs Xbox One battle isn’t ending anytime soon.

PS4 Gamers Three Times More Likely To Watch Porn Compared To Xbox One Gamers

PS4 Gamers Three Times More Likely To Watch Porn Compared To Xbox One GamersPorn on our gaming consoles? Where have we heard that before? It seems that consoles these days no longer focus on just gaming, but entertainment as well in the form of music, web surfing, interaction with friends, and even videos, and perhaps to cater to a more adult audience, adult videos have also been introduced to our consoles, one of them being online porn rental service, SugarDVD, who recently found some rather interesting data which was based on the data they managed to gather for the month of December. According to their findings, it seems that there were three times as many PS4 gamers who signed up for the site’s services compared to Xbox One gamers.

Granted the PS4 did managed to outsell the Xbox One, with 3.4 million units sold versus 2.4 million, but the disparity should not be that much. In fact even the website’s CEO, Jax Smith, thought it was weird where he told the folks at Buzzfeed, “Simply put, the Xbox One is a gateway for porn of the future. The PS4 is pretty, but Xbox One allows for more seamless integration and a more interactive experience.” We’re not sure why there is such a huge disparity, with some speculating that maybe the Kinect’s camera could be a deterrent, but as far as tastes in adult movies are concerned, the top five picks of PS4 and Xbox One gamers are pretty similar. Why do you guys think that is?
