PS4’s first post-launch firmware update brings minor interface tweaks

PlayStation 4

If you’re not keen on downloading more PlayStation 4 firmware in the wake of that giant Day One patch, we have bad news: Sony is already rolling out its first post-launch upgrade this evening. Thankfully, it’s a much smaller release this time around. The 1.51 update will both fix a few minor bugs and refine the interface, making it clearer when you’re downloading both a game and a patch at the same time. It’s not an exciting upgrade, then, but the PS4’s automatic downloads at least mean that you won’t have to lift a finger to run the latest software.

Prince William Reportedly Wants A PS4

Prince William Reportedly Wants A PS4Sony’s PS4 has certainly done extremely well for itself, although it has also run into its fair share of issues along the way. Having said that, the PS4 is being prepared to roll over into Europe in slightly more than a week’s time, and it seems that prince and paupers alike would want to get their hands on one of these bad boys. The prince in question would be Britain’s Prince William, who would love to have a PS4 to play with in time for the holiday season, but there might be one stumbling block – his wife Kate might not buy into the idea.

Reports from British newspapers this week did mention that Prince William himself is “an enthusiastic but quite useless gamer,” according to the royal’s own words, but has a soft spot for the PS4 after giving it a go. Surely this new father would not have an issue importing one over from the US, but apparently his new role as a dad, not to mention being married to a refined lady who does not having gaming on top of her list of priorities, are proving to be odds stacked against his favor when it comes to seeing a shiny new PS4 appear under the Christmas tree later this holiday season.Britain’s Mirror Online quoted Prince William, saying, “I’d like to get one but I’m not sure how my wife would feel about it.”

Official Faulty PS4s Exchanges To Enjoy Expedited Shipping

Official Faulty PS4s Exchanges To Enjoy Expedited Shipping The Sony PS4 might have exploded off the starting blocks when it comes to its sales figures, hitting a mammoth 1 million units (and more) sold within the relatively short time period of 24 hours. Well, this does not mean that everything about the Sony PS4 has been smooth sailing since, as we have also read about how the “Blue Light of Death” has plagued the next generation console for some, although Sony did claim that less than 1% of all PS4s were affected by this particular issue. For the unlucky percentage who are experiencing the downsides of a faulty PS4, you are able to perform an exchange with Sony using their official support line, and Sony has confirmed that those who do so will be on the receiving end of immediate attention coupled with expedited shipping.

This is definitely a silver lining behind the dark cloud of a bricked PS4, especially for owners who would find it troublesome, not to mention difficult in exchanging the console over at a retail store since most retail stores would have sold out their inventory of PS4s by now. Are you one of those who are affected by the Blue Light of Death issue? Some might say this is karma after laughing at the Xbox 360′s Red Ring of Death.

Tornado Wrecks This Guy’s Home, but Don’t Worry, His PS4 Is Fine

This past weekend, the U.S. Midwest was struck by some really nasty tornadoes. As tornadoes will do, they caused some very bad destruction in the areas and some even lost their lives. Tornadoes are pretty scary and they can destroy everything you have in just seconds.

As usual, in the aftermath, you could see people digging through the rubble that used to be their homes in an effort to salvage whatever they can. Sometimes that isn’t much and it is pretty heartbreaking. But if you just bought a PS4 and at least that survived? Well, that would at least be a bright ray of sunshine in an otherwise terrible outcome. At least you have something.

That’s what happened to this gamer. The house is gone, but his PS4 survived intact in its box. Yeah, things still suck, but that’s got to help you feel a little better.

Now all he needs to do is hope it doesn’t have the blue pulse of death when he fires it up.

PlayStation 4 issues “within expected range” for a new product

There’s at least one “Blue Light of Death” out there this month with the release of the PlayStation 4, and today Sony appears to be addressing it for the second time in a week. This issue is apparently not as centralized on one particular issue as it seems – instead Sony suggests that there are […]

Sony Says Less Than 1 Percent Of PS4 Units Facing ‘Several Issues’

Sony Says Less Than 1 Percent Of PS4 Units Facing Several Issues

Sony had a great PS4 launch sales wise in North America, in the first 24 hours alone it sold over 1 million units, pre-orders are likely included in that figure. However, the launch itself didn’t go smoothly all the way. Those who had received the console prior to November 15th due to various promotions and what not complained of hardware issues, which Sony said that it was looking in to. Customers who got the units after November 15th were haunted by the blue light of death, for which Sony has suggested a few fixes. The company acknowledges that “several issues” have been reported, and based on that it believes that there’s no singular problem that could impact a greater unit of PS4 units.

Sony also “understands’ that some units might have been damaged during shipping. The company says that less than 1 percent of PS4 units are affected by these several issues, the new figure is up from the previous 0.4 percent claim, and that it lies within the expected range for a new production like the PS4. Sony says its working with customers and retail partners to help out customers, and to ensure that the affected units are exchanged. Have any of you faced issues with your PS4?

Sony says PS4 failures have varying causes, affect less than 1 percent of units

    Sony PS4 close-up

The PlayStation 4 launch last week was quickly followed by mounting reports of defective units, including consoles that wouldn’t display video. Had Sony shipped the console with a common flaw? No, an SCEA spokeperson tells us in a statement (found after the break). The company believes there “isn’t a singular problem” at fault that would affect a large number of systems. The failure rate is also relatively small, according to the representative. With less than 1 percent of shipped systems affected by these problems (up from 0.4 percent in a previous claim), the number of broken systems is reportedly within the “expected range” for a product launch. While we’re certainly used to new devices that ship with a few bugs in tow, that figure still leaves a lot of unhappy gamers — one percent of the million-plus PS4 buyers would still equate to 10,000 people. Sony says it’s working to get these systems replaced; let’s hope it moves quickly.

Amazon.fr Listing Points To Crash Bandicoot For PS4 (Rumor)

Amazon.fr Listing Points To Crash Bandicoot For PS4 (Rumor)We did read about how Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition could be making its way to the PS4 as well as the Xbox One sometime next year, thanks to a listing on Amazon Italy late yesterday evening. How about other games that could eventually end up on next generation consoles in the near future? The answer would be “perhaps”, as Amazon France has a listing which points to the possibility of a new Crash Bandicoot title that will appear over on the Sony PS4.

What you see above happens to be a screen capture of a product listing that was spotted over on Amazon France. Now, it would certainly raise hopes for folks who have been looking out for a new Crash Bandicoot title after all these years. Do bear in mind that this leak remains unconfirmed, and we do hope to find out whether it is a fake or not sooner rather than later. For what it is worth, there is an image of a Crash Bandicoot game for PS4 shown off, so we will leave it to you to arrive at your very own conclusion. While no release date was listed, the final sticker price happened to be shown at 69.99 EUR.
