Sony PS4 Launch Day 1.5 Patch Detailed

Sony PS4 Launch Day 1.5 Patch DetailedSony has just announced that their upcoming next generation console, the Sony PS4, will arrive with a massive 300MB launch day patch. Hmmm, a patch that is released on the same day that the console itself rolls out to the masses? Not exactly the most auspicious of starts, don’t you think so? Well, what will this particular 1.5 patch bring with it? It is a pretty comprehensive list if you were to check it out, but here are some details that might just pique your interest.

You will be able to use Remote Play to play your PS4 games on your PlayStation Vita via Wi-Fi or through PS4 link. Apart from that, taking a page out of Dreamcast’s book, there is the second screen functionality that will make use of the PS4 Link or PlayStation App in order to transform your PS Vita, iPhone, iPad, or Android phones and tablets as a second screen for supported titles. Not only that, you can also stream gameplay via Ustream or Twitch, or choose to spectate using the PS4′s Live from PlayStation app.

Those are not an exhaustive list, but what’s important to take note is this – none of the PS4’s much vaunted features will work if you do not install the 1.50 patch, which pretty much makes it a compulsory installation for all new PS4 owners. Bummer! [Press Release]

PS4′s DualShock 4 Controllers Will Play Nicely With Macs As Well

According to Sony, their upcoming DualShock 4 controller is said to be compatible with not only the PlayStation 3, but with PCs as well, although we’re guessing that functionality will be limited to the basics as Sony has not confirmed if they will be taking steps to enable the touchpad for PCs. Well the good news for Mac gamers is that if you were hoping to avoid buying a new gamepad for the games you play on your Mac, you’d be in luck because it seems that the DualShock 4 controllers will play nicely with Mac computers as well. This is thanks to a recent Vine video upload by user Chris Gallizi where he shows the DualShock 4 controllers working on a Mac computer.

This is particularly interesting given that Sony has not announced as to whether the controllers would be compatible with Mac computers as well. For those who were thinking of purchasing the new controllers separately, as in you don’t need or want the PlayStation 4, they are expected to be priced at $59.99 and will be available in Jet Black, Magma Red, and Wave Blue. While the PS4 is not due for a release until the 15th of November, it seems that you can already purchase the controllers at several retail outlets.

DualShock 4 Controllers Drop Analog Buttons Due To Lack Of Developer Interest

DualShock 4 Controllers Drop Analog Buttons Due To Lack Of Developer InterestSo we know that Sony has gone through more than 20 different prototypes for its DualShock 4 controller for their upcoming PlayStation 4 console. Well for those who are interested in learning more about the console and some of the changes that Sony made under the hood, an interview (continued from last time) with Sony’s Toshimasa Aoiki held with VentureBeat revealed that the DualShock 4 controllers also did away with analog buttons, claiming that a lack of interest from developers led to their decision to do away with the feature. Instead the DualShock 4 controllers will not feature digital buttons and will only register on and off states, versus analog buttons which allow for varying degrees of states.

For example in Gran Turismo 5, the game allowed gamers to slowly accelerate by pressing the shoulder buttons on the DualShock 3 controllers slowly, but if you were to attempt something similar with the DualShock 4 controllers, you’d be out of luck. According to Aoki, “With the DualShock 3, we were able to get analog data, which games didn’t really use […] For DualShock 4, we deleted that, and now it’s all digital. The mechanism inside is a little different, and the data that games get is different.” What do you guys think? Is this a feature you wish more developers had gotten on board with?

Resident Evil Creator Thinks Both The Xbox One And PS4 Are “Almost Identical”

Resident Evil Creator Thinks Both The Xbox One And PS4 Are Almost IdenticalWhen it comes to debate about next-gen consoles, it’s a bit sad that Nintendo’s Wii U is often left out of the mix, but in any case as it stands, the debate is whether one should go for Microsoft’s Xbox One, or the Sony PlayStation 4. Ultimately it boils down to personal preference and also which exclusive titles you would rather have, but if you’re looking to compare consoles based purely on hardware specs, you probably shouldn’t bother, at least that’s what Resident Evil’s creator, Shinji Mikami, seems to suggest in an interview he had with Edge magazine.

According to Mikami, he believes that we only really need one console, especially since the hardware specs of both consoles are almost identical. “We only need one console […] Why do I have to make two versions of a game? And when Xbox One was first announced, it had lower specs than PS4, but now they’re almost identical. So either will do.” Like we said earlier it really just boils down to personal preference, the services provided by either platform, the comfort, the titles available, and etc., so there’s really no scientific way of choosing either device, but what do you guys think of Mikami’s comments? Do we really just need one console at the end of the day?

Xbox One Records Your Best FIFA 14 Play Automatically Unlike The PS4

Xbox One Records Your Best FIFA 14 Play Automatically Unlike The PS4You know for sure that when the two behemoths of the video game console market, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (PS4 for short) come together, sparks are bound to fly from both sides of the divide. There will be hardcore fans supporting their respective favorite consoles, ensuring that they magnify every single flaw of the competition, while highlighting the strengths of their own. When it comes to one of the biggest soccer games to roll out each year, FIFA 14 is set to grace sales charts soon for both the Xbox One and PS4. It does seem that the Xbox One version has a slight advantage over the PS4 version, where PS4 users will have to learn to rely on the system’s automatic 15 minute recording feature, while the Xbox One version will automatically record all of your best FIFA 14 moments so that you have one less thing to worry about, now how about that?

Among the key moments in the game that the Xbox One’s FIFA 14 will record include scoring a goal and your ‘keeper making good saves, and you can always return to relive those moments from the Xbox menu. For PS4 users, you can only access and edit events from the previous 15 minutes of gameplay using a press of the DualShock 4′s share button. Knowing this, will it influence which particular next gen console that you will pick up?

It would appear that one of the most advanced Bluetooth controllers on the market this year has hit some stores early: this is the PS4 DualShock 4, and it’s been spotted at more than one store Up North. PlayStation 4 Controller Works with PS3 Console: Shared Buttons

Good news for the PlayStation nation. It seems like the Dualshock 4 controller designed for the PlayStation 4 works with the PlayStation 3 console too. YouTuber Udetto, who writes for German gaming site Computer Bild Spiele, discovered the backwards compatibility while fiddling with a debug version of the PlayStation 4.

playstation 4 dualshock controller ps 3 compatiblemagnify

There is a catch however. Udetto says the controller will only work with the PS3 if it’s plugged in to the console via USB, which means that it won’t work with PS3 games that require you to play wirelessly. I don’t know of any game that has that requirement, but apparently FIFA 14 is one of those games. That’s really odd. Does that mean you can’t charge a PS3 controller and play FIFA 14 at the same time?

We should remember that Udetto’s discovery was with a prototype controller, and despite his positive findings it’s possible that the controller won’t work with many PS3 games. But since we can buy the controller without shelling out for the entire PS4, here’s hoping Sony can make this backwards compatibility official.

Sony Admits PS4 Price In Brazil Is Not Good For Gamers

Sony Admits PS4 Price In Brazil Is Not Good For GamersThe other day we reported that due to taxes and other various costs, Sony’s PlayStation 4 would end up costing Brazilian gamers R$3,999, which when converted is about $1,850, an eye-watering amount that would have netted gamers in the US about 4 PlayStation 4 console units already. Naturally many were outraged, despite not being Brazilians themselves, as the idea of forking out close to $2,000 for a console is a little ridiculous, and some have accused Sony of being greedy. Interestingly enough Sony has since released a statement about the price of the PS4 in Brazil, and it sounds like they’re not too happy about having to charge that much either.

According to the statement, “We want to emphasise that it isn’t in the interest of Sony Computer Entertainment America to sell PS4 units at this high retail price, as it’s not good for our gamers and it’s not good for the PlayStation brand.” They go on to offer a breakdown of the price at Valor Economico (it’s written in Portuguese) and state that they are working with government agencies at bringing down the price, as well as the possibility of manufacturing the console locally as they did with the PlayStation 3 which would undoubtedly help reduce their costs drastically. However until then, we guess gamers in Brazil will just have to contend with the outrageous price tag.
