Sony has sent out a warning to owners of the Vaio Fit 11A hybrid notebook, where the consumer electronics giant has claimed that the Vaio Fit 11A runs the risk of having its batteries overheat, resulting in the possibility of a fire. This would mean if you happen to own a Sony Vaio Fit 11A, you are strongly advised to stop using the notebook immediately. So far, Sony has received a trio of reports concerning issues with the notebook’s internal batteries, where overheating would lead to partial burns to the housing of the unit.
Unfortunately for Sony, this is not the first incident where Sony has run into overheating batteries. If one were to turn the clock back all the way to 2006, other than Sony, other computer manufacturers such as Dell and Apple, too, did issue high-profile recalls that affected millions of laptop owners after it was discovered that the batteries used in the aforementioned notebooks ran into the risk of overheating and of course, catching fire. And who was the manufacturer of those possibly defective batteries? Sony, of course.
Sony claims that they will “repair or replace the affected PCs at no charge, or to refund the purchase price for the affected PCs.” Expect additional information to hail from Sony in the weeks ahead, and it is best not to use your notebook Sony sorts this thing out. [Press Release]
