Voltron Deluxe Hoodie: And I’ll Form the Hood!

Defend the universe with this badass hoodie from 80s Tees, featuring three fifths of the Lion Force Voltron squad in their proper positions. The only thing I don’t like about it is that Keith’s Black Lion looks a bit depressed in this hoodie. A matching pair of Blue Lion and Yellow Lion sweatpants and slippers would probably cheer him up.

While you can’t disassemble the hoodie into three cuddly lions, the Black Lion’s jaw is detachable for practical purposes.

You can order the Voltron Deluxe Costume Hoodie from 80s Tees for $160 (USD). The store also has a version of the hoodie without the lion heads, although why you’d want that over this one is beyond me.

Robot “Commits Suicide” On Stove

Robot “Commits Suicide” On StoveFor all the amount of artificial intelligence that a robotic vacuum cleaner is supposed to have, here is a case where it actually experienced a fatal miscalculation. Apparently, a cleaning robot was reported to have switched itself on before making its way over to a hot plate. Needless to say, when it was on the hot plate, the entire robot started to melt like a T-1000 at the end of the Terminator 2 movie. Obviously, it resulted in a fire that started licking at the owner’s home, all the while being engulfed by flames. I suppose that this might be the first case of a robot suicide, if you will. Do you think that the robot was so sick and tired of house chores, that it could not take it any more and decided to call it quits?

A fireman who helped extinguish the blaze shared, “I don’t know about the allegations of a robot suicide but the homeowner is insistent that the device was switched off – it’s a mystery how it came to be activated and ended up making its way to the hotplate.” Stranger things have happened in the past, but we can shelve this alongside the rest of the quirkier things that have happened with technology at home.

Morphs Are Solar Powered Robot Structures

Morphs Are Solar Powered Robot StructuresWill robots be able to take over the world eventually? Perhaps, or perhaps not. Well, here we are with Morphs, which are robotic and geometric sculptures which can control their own movements, all the while adapting to a variety of surroundings and reshaping the way humans think when it comes to architecture. Morphs happen to be solar-powered mechanical creatures which can also crawl between different locations, where they are able to self-assemble so that they can achieve a level of interactivity with humans.

According to Morph creator William Bondin, he made use of his background in architecture in order to explore just how social dialogue is able to be inspired by structures. Apart from that, he also threw in robotic capability in order to offer these movable structures a certain level o intelligence. Bondin described the Morphs this way, “Morphs are very low-level creatures in terms of computation, and have much less computational ability than a mobile phone. Instead, they rely on their environments in order to display a level of self autonomy. These playful robotic creatures will encourage the public to choreograph them into dance routines, assemble them into complex sculptural geometries or else play music at them, which they will play back over time.”

Atoms modular robotic building toy kits launch

A new and high tech set of building toys designed for kids and adults to build their own robotic creations has launched called Atoms. Atoms started off as a Kickstarter project and has now launched for everyone to be able to purchase via the company’s new online store. There are multiple Atoms modules available that […]

Virtual simulation and robotic butt named Patrick offers med students hands-on practice

Earlier this month, comedian Rob Delaney caught attention after tweeting an image of a man performing an, shall we say, invasive exam on a robotic butt positioned in front of a large monitor displaying a virtual doctor’s examination room. The tweet provided no details about the image, and not being content with making ample backside […]

This Comic Predicted the First Robot Suicide Over 40 Years Ago

The internet is abuzz with a Daily Mail report on the world’s first robot suicide. A family in Austria claims that after performing its daily duties, their Roomba robot somehow "reactivated itself" and met its demise on a hotplate. The sullen machine started a fire in their apartment and after burning for nearly an hour, the robot’s charred remains were left smoldering on the stove. We should’ve seen it coming.

Lexus Ad Depicts Swarm Of Automated Robot Helicopters

Just how creative can an advertisement get? After all, consumers do have plenty of choices to pick from, and a whole lot of purchase choices depends on the kind of advertising campaign done beforehand to persuade consumers to make a decision. Lexus, the luxury marque of Toyota, has released a new ad that depicts a swarm of automated robot helicopters. Having teamed up with the engineers at KMel Robotics in order to deliver this amazing ad to the masses, parking it under the automaker’s slogan of “Amazing in Motion.”

In the video, it sports KMel Robotics’ automated four-rotor flying robots that are known as quadrotors. There are different segments of the video, where some of them were shot in a museum, in addition to bouncing up a staircase which is rather strange when you consider how they can simply fly as it is. Not only that, halfway through the video, the quadrotors will engage in an impromptu dance number.

At times, the robots will also be rather sneaky in their behavior, as they will be able to conceal themselves from passersby on the street. The quadrotors seem to be extremely benign in nature though, being extremely cute as they fly around with an accompanying playful score.

Toyota Torque Servo Robot Arm Shown Off

Toyota Torque Servo Robot Arm Shown OffWe did talk about a trainable robotic arm just yesterday, and here we are with yet another piece about a robot arm. This particular robot arm is not something that you will be able to download and print using a 3D printer for yourself, as it hails from the good people over at Toyota. Known as the Toyota Torque Servo robot arm, it is currently on display at the International Robot Exhibition 2013 in Tokyo, where it happens to be controlled by the physical touch of the operator instead of taking the more “normal” route of a keyboard or a joystick.

Using the operator’s physical touch, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities, as it enables the operator to physically specify movements. The arm is smart enough to respond in a quick, smooth and flexible manner, where it can also be trained to maintain a certain “hand” position, never mind that the upper arm or the elbow is moved as well. Not only that, should the arm come into contact with someone by accident, it will automatically make an attempt to cushion the impact. Talk about it being useful if it were to see action in restaurants! That might just see the end of spilled drinks by waiters.

Pars Drone Was Built To Save Lives Of Those Stranded At Sea

Drones have been getting a bad rep over the past few years as every time we hear about them, we can’t help but imagine some unmanned vehicle that has been sent to kill us in the middle of the night. Drones aren’t known for saving lives, but a new one created by an Iranian researcher has built one whose main purpose is to save people.
