Rockstar loves to tease its fans, and it’s been doing a lot of that recently with Grand Theft Auto V. The game is planned for release next month, but that isn’t stopping Rockstar from slowly providing us with more and more details on the upcoming game. This time around, it’s more screenshots and details from […]
Sony Apologizes For GTA 5 Leak
Posted in: Today's ChiliSome people who had pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto 5 through the PlayStation Store in Europe had downloaded a digital pre-order file of the game which was unintentionally published on the store. They were able to mine through the file and access certain GTA 5 assets as well as discover things such as the game’s main theme and soundtrack, apart from various other details. Sony has acknowledged the leak and apologized for it in a post published yesterday on the official PlayStation blog.
Sony says that it sincerely apologizes to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. The digital pre-order file has now been removed from the PlayStation Store in Europe. The damage has been done though. Spoiler content related to GTA 5 is now out and plastered across the web. There’s really only one thing you can do to shield yourself from it, don’t search for it. Sony says in its post that GTA 5 is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, and that there’s no doubt about the fact that it has a very passionate following around the globe. The company says it looks forward to the historic launch of GTA 5 on September 17th.

Grand Theft Auto Online launches October 1st with MMO-like elements (video)
Posted in: Today's ChiliFor some, Grand Theft Auto 4‘s multiplayer mode was a promise unfulfilled — it had the open environment of a massively multiplayer online game, but none of the genre’s persistent content. Rockstar is making amends by unveiling Grand Theft Auto Online, an independent counterpart to GTA5 with a few MMO components. While only 16 players can participate in a given session, they all have permanent stakes in the game world: they can raise cash, buy property and build a reputation that unlocks new gameplay. There are “ambient” events, and gamers can even design custom battles or races to share with others.
The new title should also represent a break from Rockstar’s usual business model, which emphasizes blockbuster releases with few (if any) updates. Although GTAO will be available for free to GTA5 buyers on October 1st and start off with that game’s resources, it should receive a steady stream of new missions and purchases. Ultimately, the two GTA games may have little in common. Rockstar hasn’t said whether or not it will charge players for any extras, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they carry price tags.

Grand Theft Auto V coming to PC this fall, according to NVIDIA [UPDATE: Statement]
Posted in: Today's ChiliGrand Theft Auto V has been the talk of the gaming town for months now, and speculation is continuing to build as we get closer to the game’s release date. However, while we’ve seen past GTA titles release on the PC, Rockstar has yet to announce availability for GTAV on PC, but according to NVIDIA, […]
We’ve already seen a handful of Grand Theft Auto V screenshots in the past, and Rockstar Games is no stranger to teasing their fans with a constant downpour of such imagery. Today, we’re being treated with more of that, and these specifically focus on what Rockstar is calling “the fast life” in GTAV.
In the blog post by Rockstar, the game studio doesn’t reveal a lot of details and what the screenshots mean exactly — it seems like they’re simply letting the screenshots speak for themselves. So what do they say exactly? Many of the screenshots reveal what we’ve already known about the game, including the ability to base jump and even own a sidekick dog.
The game will obviously include new vehicles to around in (and on), including that colorful classic muscle car, as well as four-wheelers, motorcycles, and private yachts. Players will also be able to fly planes, including that Leerjet private plane that appears to have one of its engines on fire in the screenshot.
The screenshots also reveal a military helicopter flying about. We’re not sure if this will be something that players will get to fly, or if it’ll just be part of the police force that shows up once a player hits a 3- or 4-star criminal level like we’ve seen in past GTA titles.
Rockstar says they’ll have a lot more details about the game later next month, which will include the “first proper unveiling of Grand Theft Auto Online,” which we were teased with a little in the GTAV walkthrough that was released several weeks ago.

This week the folks at Rockstar Games have had a bit of an information spill from Grand Theft Auto 5 with details on a customizable pet dog named Chop. This dog will be appearing as partner to one of three main characters in the game and will have “100% customizable” accessories – collars, chains, and everything in-between. We’ll leave it to Franklin to decide what’s appropriate as he rides the line between legitimate and nefarious business once the full game appears.
This information comes from the paperback publication Famitsu and were brought to the web by an intrepid fan board member watamaru to GTA Community. It’s there that the following details were let loose – and please excuse the very basic translation action.
• Each character has a walk of their own
• You can change the dog’s accessories
• The dog may be lost
• Wild animals will be able to be hunted
• More than 15 unique animals will be running through the game’s environments
• Game will feature a full-fledged underwater mission
• Characters can go for a drive together (Trevor with Michael) on jet skis
Also included are images such as the one you’re seeing below, here reminding us that the game will continue to work with helicopters on the chase, revealing a bit of a speed boat element as it does so. With more than 15 animals on the run, we’re expecting both land-based and aquatic beasts to be appearing – and not just birds as you’re seeing in the backgrounds of many of the shots revealed for the game thus far.
Have a peek at one of the more revealing gameplay videos here as well, and be sure to continue to follow the full-on GTA action through SlashGear’s Rockstar tag portal as we move ever closer to the worldwide release date on 9/17/2013. Or October 10th, if you live in Japan – according to Famitsu, that is.
Have a peek at SlashGear’s Grand Theft Auto V official gameplay video breakdown for analysis from start to finish.
BONUS: for those of you waiting to see dogs in GTA, there’s always odd modifications like the one you’re about to see. We’re expecting one whole heck of an upgrade from this nastiness when the GTA 5 shows their dogs for real.
