Angry Birds Star Wars 2 character gallery expands past 3-film limits

If we didn’t know any better, we’d say the folks at Rovio are aiming to release an Angry Birds Star Wars game that goes not only to the worlds presented in the prequels, but to some favorites from Return of the Jedi as well. What we’re seeing this afternoon is a series of new teaser […]

Angry Birds Go Is Rovio’s Upcoming Kart Racing Game

Back in June this year, Rovio teased a new Angry Birds game called Angry Birds Go. At that time it wasn’t clear as to what this title entailed, but according to Rovio at that time, it was an Angry Birds title but not as we know it. Well it turns out that Rovio’s statement was spot on as it has been revealed that Angry Birds Go is actually a racing game! Given that Angry Birds Go was created in partnership with Redbull who has other racing games in the App Store, we guess we can’t say we are too surprised.

This will no doubt be a huge departure from other Angry Birds titles which features players to strategically slingshot birds into structures to get as many points as possible. While the mechanics of Angry Birds Go have yet to be fully revealed, if the game is anything like Rovio’s earlier efforts, we expect it should be pretty fun. No word on when Angry Birds Go will be released, but the video above does say, “All will be revealed soon!” so we guess we will just have to play the waiting game for now. So, who else is looking forward to this racing game from Rovio?

Angry Birds GO teased by Rovio as DIY kart racer

As the infamous original “kart” racer from Nintendo continues to be console or Nintendo-device-limited, the folks at Rovio are hard at work creating their own racer. This is Angry Birds GO! In the teaser shared this week, the folks at Rovio have suggested that they’ve been conjuring up not just another endless runner, not just […]

Angry Birds Star Wars II Sees Personal Invitation From The Emperor

When someone like Emperor Palpatine gives you an offer to “join the pork side”, you would be nuts to refuse his offer unless you do not mind being electrocuted to death by his Force Lightning. Of course, this is somewhat like Vito Corleone who gives people an offer they cannot refuse, but with a whole lot more tricks up his sleeve – literally, considering how Palpatine’s robe has a pretty long sleeve to begin with. Star Wars fans will be thrilled to enjoy the first “Join the Pork Side” video that you can watch above, and it has even been voiced by the Emperor from the Star Wars films, Ian McDiarmid himself.

It was just yesterday when we saw the multiplayer mode for Angry Birds Star Wars, but here we are with word about Angry Birds Star Wars II. This particular sequel will see both bird and pig versions of over 30 characters from the Star Wars universe. Do stay tuned as next Monday will deliver the first set of character reveal gameplay videos, and the game itself is set to be released later this September 19th on a worldwide scale, where it will also hit the decks as an universal app across iOS, Android (Google Play and Amazon) and Windows Phone 8 platforms for $0.99 a pop – or whatever you are paying in your local equivalent currency. A free version is also available on Google Play, but that will be ad-supported.

Rovio Account Rolled Out Globally For iOS And Android

Rovio Account rolls out globally for cross-platform syncing

Back in May, Rovio introduced a new method that would allow Angry Birds gamers to have their progress synced across all of their devices, called Rovio Account. The new feature has been slowly rolling out over the past couple months, and the game developing studio announced today that Account is available to all on iOS and Android.

    Rovio-ID-540x405

Essentially, the purpose of the feature is all in the name. Rovio Account lets you create an account, which is used to save and store progress in an Angry Birds game and have that game data synced across your multiple mobile devices. By doing this, gamers will be able to stop playing the game on one device, and pick up where they left off on another.

It’s important to note, however, that support is rather limited at this point. Rovio Account is only compatible with the original Angry Birds title release, as well as one of their most-recent launches, The Croods. The good news is that Rovio will be adding additional games to the support list in the future, but no timeline was provided.

Since Rovio has numerous games, including Bad Piggies and numerous Angry Birds spin-offs, it’ll be interesting to see which games receive priority as far being added to the list of Rovio Account support. We’re guessing that Rovio’s upcoming Angry Birds Star Wars II title will have the feature built-in from the start, but we’ll have to wait and see.

You should see the new feature pop up in either Angry Birds or The Croods if you have those installed on your device. You’ll be able to create an account from there and then log in on all of your other devices to sync your progress so that you don’t have to start over on a new device.

Hands-on with Angry Birds Star Wars 2 and Hasbro’s Telepods (video)

Rovio recently announced a sequel to its Angry Birds Star Wars game, and the Finnish company was on hand to demo its latest title here at Comic-Con. Coming to Android and iOS on September 19th (and to consoles a month later), the app features more than 30 playable characters and — most notably — works with Hasbro-designed “Telepods.” If you’ve heard of Skylanders — not to mention Hasbro’s zAPPed line of add-ons for iPad games — the concept will be quite familiar: the Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Telepods give players access to additional characters and superpowers.

To get started with the Telepod figures, we simply had to place them (attached to their plastic stand) over the demo iPad’s camera. The tablet recognized the characters in just a second or two, and then we were able to play with new birds and their associated abilities (hint: more explosions). Rovio’s VP of marketing Philip Hickey says the Telepod collaboration with Hasbro allowed the company to make even Jar Jar Binks’ character interesting — and we have to admit, that’s quite an accomplishment. The Telepods will be available in stores for about $20 shortly before game launches in September.

The live-action telepods may be the upcoming title’s most novel feature, but that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t have several software-based goodies as well. You can choose to play on the dark side (“on the pork side,” as it were), and there are new two-player cooperative and two-to-four-player multiplayer modes. Be sure to check out our video hands-on after the break to see the sci-fi birds in action.

Rovio Account now globally available for iOS and Android devices

What does the global rollout of Rovio Account mean for completists like us? It means that whenever we download Angry Birds to a new Android or iOS device, we can just pull down our current progress — sparing us the chore of having to re-complete Poached Eggs, Mighty Hoax and Danger Above from scratch. So far, the option is only available on the original Angry Birds and The Croods, but the game maker has promised that the rest of its titles will be included in the near future.

Angry Birds Star Wars coming to most game consoles on October 29th (video)

Angry Birds Star Wars coming to most consoles on October 29th

Angry Birds Star Wars has invaded virtually every major mobile and desktop platform; as of October 29th, it will have a footprint on nearly every modern game console, too. The sci-fi bird flinging title will ship to the US that day for the 3DS, Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360, with international customers getting their turn on November 1st. Regardless of the platform, there’s a few rewards for patient gamers — the console editions will carry a raft of competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, as well as 20 exclusive levels. We’re slightly surprised that there aren’t PS4 and Xbox One ports just to complete the picture, but the launch is still good news for those who’d rather play ABSW on the big screen than give its sequel a try.

Angry Birds Star Wars flying onto consoles this fall

After recently announcing that the Angry Birds Trilogy would be coming to the Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Rovio has announced today that Angry Birds Star Wars will be making its way to a slew of consoles this fall. Previously available for smartphones, tablets, PC, and Mac, the game will be headed to the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, PS Vita, and the 3DS starting on October 29.

Angry Birds Star Wars is the latest game from Rovio to make a console debut. The Angry Birds series has seen a lot of traffic on mobile devices, as well as desktop platforms, but a console presence hasn’t been anything too exciting, and it looks like Rovio wants to change that with this sci-fi crossover.

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits that console gamers will have when they buy the game is the inclusion of 20 new levels exclusive to the console version, as well as new two-player co-operative mode and two-to-four player multiplayer modes — something that the mobile versions and desktop version don’t have, sadly.

The announcement follows the recent unveiling of Angry Birds Star Wars II, which is the sequel to the original game that is heading to consoles. The second game in the series will be released on September 19, and will take on the Star Wars prequel. The game will also come with a set of new figurines called Telepods that players can collect and use in the game to unlock special powers and such.
