Microsoft Product Codenames Leaked For June-July Release

Microsoft Product Codenames Leaked For June July ReleaseMicrosoft’s deal with Nokia is expected to be closed later this month. Once that happens, Microsoft would have successfully acquired Nokia and we can’t wait to see what Microsoft has planned for the Finnish company and the Windows Phone platform down the road. In the meantime it looks like Microsoft has a handful of new products in the works, thanks to the folks at Windows Phone Central who managed to obtain some codenames.

According to them, Microsoft has about five devices that they know of right now. Three of which are expected to be launched in June, and two more in July. Those pegged for a June 5th release includes the Microsoft Hughes, Adcock, and Capers. The ones pegged for the 22nd of July is the Microsoft Galway and the Microsoft Dublin.

Unfortunately these codenames don’t really tell us much about the products as they’re not particular descriptive, but then again that’s pretty much the idea of codenames, right? Anyway Windows Phone Central has suggested that some of them are accessories, but apart from that, we’re not sure what the rest could be.

Could it be a Microsoft-branded Windows Phone device? Could one of them be the Microsoft Surface mini that we’ve been hearing so much about? Considering that the Surface mini is rumored for a June launch, would it be a stretch of the imagination to think maybe one of the devices mentioned above is the rumored device? In any case this is purely speculation but take it with a grain of salt and check back with us later for the details.

Upcoming Nokia Device Codenames Leaked

Upcoming Nokia Device Codenames LeakedEarlier this year at MWC 2014 and Microsoft’s BUILD 2014 conference, Nokia took the wraps off a handful of devices, like the Nokia X series of Android smartphones, as well as devices like the Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 930, and so on. Presumably Nokia has more handsets in the works and thanks to a recent post by the ever-reliable @evleaks, there are apparently 8 Nokia handsets we can look forward to.

According to @evleaks, he has revealed 8 devices, all of which are codenamed. They are the Ara, Leo, Moonraker, Onyx, Peridot, Superman, Tesla, and Vantage. Now there’s no telling what kind of devices these are and for all we know, it could range from low-high end products so we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.

There is a good chance that these are devices we have not heard of, especially since the codenames for Nokia’s previous devices have already been revealed, except for the Nokia Monarch which is basically T-Mobile’s Lumia 635. It’s a little too early to tell what these devices are but either do check back with us at a later date for more information.

In the meantime for fans of Nokia products, it looks like the Finnish company (and soon to be owned by Microsoft) has a ton of new products up their sleeves that they have yet to reveal. So, who else is excited at the idea of more Nokia smartphones arriving in the future?

Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview Could Be Released Today [Rumor]

Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview Could Be Released Today [Rumor]During the early part of April, Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8.1 in all of its official glory at the Microsoft BUILD 2014 conference. Now the question is when can we expect the update to begin rolling out? An exact release date is still in the air but according to Joe Belfiore, the developer preview is expected to see a release early April.

Well it turns out that today (the 14th of April) is apparently the day the developer preview will be released. This is according to Microsoft’s blog which apparently let the cat out of the bag a little earlier than expected because according to a post by Cliff Simpkins, he writes that the developer preview will be released today.

According to the post, “Starting today, you can update your personal dev phone(s) to run Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Preview for Developers program.” The link to the post now takes you to a page that requires you to log-in, so chances are Microsoft spotted the post that went up a little ahead of time and decided to pull it until it was ready to go.

Assuming that the post was indeed referring to the 14th of April and that the developer preview will be released today, then this is definitely something worth looking forward to. This means that while end-users will still have to wait for the update to be pushed to their handsets, developers will be able to take the update for a spin and preview some of the upcoming features, so stay tuned for more updates.

Google Redesigning Android App Icons [Rumor]

Google Redesigning Android App Icons [Rumor]With every major revision of Android, Google brings about small changes to the appearance of the Android operating system. So far we’ve seen Google experiment with a bunch of different looks and according to the folks at Android Police, they claim that according to a new rumor, Google could be giving its app icons a visual makeover, possibly in a future major Android update which could be revealed at Google I/O later this June.

According to them, the new style of icons are known internally as “Moonshine” and is basically a redesign of the Google app icons to more closely resemble its web counterpart. For example the Gmail icon on the web and on Android looks different from one another, and while more proficient and experience Android users will have no problem identifying the app, first-time users could be a little lost. Insurance Companies Could Subsidize iWatch, According To Analyst

Insurance Companies Could Subsidize iWatch, According To AnalystApple’s iPhones are typically subsidized by carriers, which makes sense since carriers provide the service that the iPhone needs in order for some of its functions to work, like making calls or sending text messages (VoIP and instant messenger apps not included). That being said, does it make sense then that Apple’s rumored iWatch could be subsidized by health insurance companies then?

This is according to Timoth Arcuri, an analyst with Cowen & Co. who has recently speculated that there is a chance that Apple could figure out a deal with health insurance companies to help subsidized the cost of the iWatch. In Arcuri’s research note, “We continue to believe it is possible the product (iWatch) is backstopped by some sort of insurance subsidization model similar to the carrier subsidization model for iPhone.” (more…)

Possible iPhone 6 Production Tools And Schematics Spotted [Rumor]

Possible iPhone 6 Production Tools And Schematics Spotted [Rumor]

Is Apple working on two models of the iPhone that could be launched later towards the end of the year? That’s what the rumors are claiming, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo backing them up. Now thanks to recently leaked photos posted on Weibo (China’s answer to Twitter), possible molds for the two iPhones might have been spotted, along with some schematics which allegedly depict the next-gen iPhone.

As you can see in the image above, the tools pictured look like they could be molds used to create a smartphone. Since smartphones are rectangular in design, there’s no way of knowing if these molds are used for the iPhone, for another smartphone, or if they might be fake. However they do appear to be of different sizes so perhaps they could be the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes that have been rumored about. (more…)
