Earlier today, students at California State University, Long Beach were asked to evacuate and/or take shelter after reports that there was an "armed gunman" on campus. People were told to, "lock and blockade doors, close blinds, silence cell phones and remain calm." Scary. Luckily, there wasn’t a shooter though. It was just a guy carrying his Samsung Galaxy Phone.

As expected, Samsung unveiled an absolute slew of new products during their Premiere event in London. The company’s Galaxy and ATIV lineup of devices both received add-ons in the form of new laptops, tablets, a camera, and even an all-in-one desktop thrown in there for good measure. If you missed out in the festivities during
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 Review
Posted in: Today's ChiliSamsung will bring a new batch of Galaxy and ATIV phones and tablets to play in a launch event in late June, the company has confirmed, teasing the new range ahead of its UK debut. The event, to be held in the evening of June 20 at London’s Earl’s Court Exhibition Center, has been dubbed “Samsung Premiere 2013″ and will presumably see at least two devices added to the company’s line-up.
The Galaxy range needs little introduction, being headlined of course by the Galaxy S 4. One possibility is that Samsung could use the London event to reveal the Galaxy S 4 mini, the rumored smaller version of the flagship.
However, the rumor-mill hasn’t been quiet on possible Galaxy phones, with both the Galaxy S 4 Active and the Galaxy S 4 Mega expected to be unveiled sometime in the near future. Samsung’s big reveal could also be around a Galaxy Tab, perhaps the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.
As for ATIV, that branding is a little less known than the Galaxy series. On the one hand, there are the ATIV tablets, which have so far included Windows 8 and Windows RT models; that’s been underplayed in recent months, especially after Samsung opted not to launch the RT-based ATIV Tab in the US.
The other possibility is a new Windows Phone, since Samsung uses the ATIV name for that series of devices as well. The company’s mobile emphasis has so far been predominantly on Android, but a new Windows Phone 8 device, perhaps with some of the specifications of the Galaxy S 4, could be one possibility.
However, thanks to some brand streamlining, ATIV also covers Samsung’s all-in-ones and laptops, in addition to its Windows-based tablets, so the London event could well see a broader line-up unveiled.
We’ll know for sure on June 20, with the show kicking off at 6pm BST (1PM ET/10AM PT) and livestreamed at the Samsung Mobile YouTube channel.

Samsung’s roadshow of the GALAXY S4 finally arrived in Tokyo a month after kicking off in London and hitting several other cities and continents on the way.
The late timetable may have been through coordination with exclusive Japanese partner, mobile provider NTT Docomo, which announced its addition to its smartphone lineup yesterday. Or it may have been out of sensitivity to giving the product enough exposure around the world to raise its credibility in Japan.
But better late than never and we see a real buzz here for its roll-out which will happen later this month.
This is Samsung’s flagship mobile product and I thought the company did a great job to raise the level of excitement during the presentation. The President and the Executive VP of Samsung Japan as well as the Deputy President from Headquarters all gave great talks about the S4 and the vision for what Samsung is doing. They were joined by some famous Japanese Talento, who together with Samsung people very effectively illustrated the cool features on the S4:
1) The world’s first 5 inch full HD organic EL display
– It’s 8mm thin (1mm thinner than the previous model), but the display size got bigger than the previous model because of their slim bezel technology.
– 2,600mAh large capacity battery (500mAH more than the previous model)
– 1.9GHz Quad Core CPU
2) Various camera related functionality
【Sound & Shot】
– Enables you to record 9 seconds and associate it with photos
【Dual Shot】
– Take a photo of your subject and yourself on the same pic using the main and sub cameras at the same time
【Drama Shot】
– Takes continuous photos of a moving object and compose them to a single photo, which creates a photo that looks like a line-up of stop motion photos
【Story Album】
– Allows you to create a photo album by using photos saved in the S4
【Keshigomu (Eraser) Mode】
– Takes continuous photos and enables you to remove a walking person accidentally appearing behind your subject in the photos
3) Evolved handleability
【S Preview】
– Enables you to preview your photo albums and schedule, etc. by moving your finger close to each item above the screen
【S Gesture】
– Enables you to control the phone when your hands are dirty (flipping the page you are looking at and answering a phone call, etc.) by moving a hand above the screen
– Even use your elbow to navigate when your hands are full
– When you answer a phone call by using an S Gesture move, the phone call setting automatically shift to “Speaker Mode”. It will be very helpful when both hands are busy
【Smart Pause】
– Detects when your look away from the screen and video is paused automatically
【Glove Friendly】
– Enables you to control the touch panel in gloves
【Group Play】
– By using Wi-Fi tethering function, you can share music, photos and games with your friends
【S Health】
– Track you health by, for example, counting your steps and amount of exercise, monitoring the temperature and humidity around you, and recording calories or your weight etc.
【Kantan (Easy) Mode】
– Easily changes the home display from the regular one to a very simple looking one that is for smart phone beginners or elderly people. Each item is displayed in bigger size
– Good for smart phone beginners. Once they get used to use a Galaxy S4 with Kantan Mode, they can change the home display to the regular one
4) Notable accessory
【S View Cover】
– A smart phone cover for Galaxy S4.
– When you open the cover like a book, it shows the regular home display on Galaxy S4.
– There is a window in the cover so that when you close it, you can still see important information like the clock
– When you get a phone call, you can answer the phone by touching the window part and speak through the cover

Samsung has quietly slipped a new smartphone into the market, this one destined for Straight Talk and bestowed with the Galaxy Centura name. The phone wasn’t announced, instead appearing over on Samsung’s website, where it currently sits without a price or launch date, but alongside a list of specifications that point to an all-around basic lower-end handset for those needing a (we’re assuming) budget phone.
The handset is a small device with an equally-small 3-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 480. In case that doesn’t tip you off, the rest of the specs are likewise nothing that will jump out at you, including its 800MHz MSM7625A Qualcomm processor and 512MB of RAM. There’s 4GB of internal storage space, as well as a microSD card expansion slot with support for up to 32GB.
One of the specs’ upsides is the addition of Bluetooth, which means users will be able to use wireless headsets when driving or in situations that demand it. The battery is also a decent 1,500mAh, which given the lower-end processor and small screen results in an appreciable standby charge time of 10 days and talk time of 7 hours – assuming the user doesn’t run Bluetooth constantly, which will reduce those numbers.
There’s a single camera around back with a 3-megapixel resolution and 3x digital zoom, as well as a few different image modes and the ability to record video. There’s also GPS. The handset runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and has the cell phone standards of speakerphone, voicemail, and such. There’s no word on when it’ll be available, but we’ll update you when we know more.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been available in the U.S. on a few wireless carriers, but let’s say you would rather not enter one of their retail locations and would prefer to pick up your phone while you’re picking up office supplies at Staples in an attempt to save as much time as possible in your busy schedule. Up until now, all you would be greeted with when asking to buy a Galaxy S4 was a bunch of dirty looks and probably a laugh or two, but starting today, you can return to that Staples location and laugh in their face as you walk away with a Galaxy S4.
Staples now offers the Samsung Galaxy S4 across 500 of its retail store locations as well as its online store for only $199.99 when you sign for a two-year contract. The $199.99 is the asking price across all supported carriers, which means you’ll save $50 on your Galaxy S4 if you’re a Sprint subscriber.
