SanDisk recently announced a new memory card aimed at cinema pros. The memory card has 120 GB of storage and is called the SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory card. SanDisk’s CFast 2.0 card is the world’s fastest memory card of any kind

SanDisk's first CFast 20 memory card is the world's fastest,

About a year after the CompactFlash Association announced the CFast 2.0 draft spec, SanDisk has revealed its new Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory card. The first of its kind, SanDisk says read speeds of up to 450MB/s and write speeds of up to 350MB/s make it the world’s fastest memory card, period. Speed isn’t the only improvement either, as the cards claim a tougher, pinless design and even unique serial numbers that owners can register with customer support. For now however, its use is going to be quite limited. The only camera ready for it at launch is the just-announced Arri Amira, although the Arri XT and Classic (with the XR module) cameras can also use it with an adapter. For those still using traditional CompactFlash storage for their 4K shooting the company is stretching the limits there too, with a new 256GB card that it says has the highest capacity ever. That extra storage will cost you however, with a price of $1,809 for the new 256GB version. There’s no word on a price for the CFast 2.0 cards or their USB 3.0-equipped reader, but pro videographers in the US and Europe should be able to find them soon at specialty shops and Arri-authorized locations.

SanDisk Announces Availability of 256GB CompactFlash Card

SanDisk Announces Availability of 256GB CompactFlash CardWhile the amateur photographer might only need a smaller memory card to save their photos on, professionals might require larger ones, and multiple ones as well due to them possibly shooting at maximum resolution or in the RAW format. For those professional photographers, SanDisk might have the solution for you in the form of the SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash memory card that will offer up 256GB of storage, which according to SanDisk, makes it the “world’s first” high-capacity and high-performance CompactFlash memory card.

The card will offer 65MB/s write speeds and will offer transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s. It has also been optimized to capture 4K and Full HD video, and have also been designed to withstand both shock and vibration, as well as perform under extreme temperatures from as low as minus 13F, to 185F, but we suppose the lifetime limited warranty will also do a good job of assuaging some fears. The 256GB SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash memory card is currently available for purchase and has been priced at an eye-watering $1,809.99. So much for buying multiple copies, huh?

SanDisk Connect arrives for wireless storage and streaming to mobile devices

Wireless storage and streaming solutions have been around for awhile, and most of the big storage companies have out their own version of wireless storage, mostly in the form of a hard drive that you can connect to wirelessly if you’re short on space on your mobile device. However, SanDisk is implementing a different method that includes nothing but a flash drive.

SanDisk’s new Connect line of devices aims to help you out with transferring files between your computer and mobile device, whether it’d be a smartphone or tablet. There are two products in the Connect line. First, there’s a flash drive that crams in up to 32GB of storage, as well as WiFi and a microSD card slot. Just plug it into your computer and you can transfer files to it. Then, your mobile device can connect directly to the flash drive to obtain the files, or vice versa.

There’s also a larger Roku-sized SanDisk Connect box that comes with a full-size SD card slot and a twice the battery life of the flash drive. However, it only tops out at 32GB, but the added SD card slot can bump that up quite a bit. The box may be a better option for those who want to quickly transfer photos from their camera to their devices quickly and easily.

The only catch is that you’ll have to use SanDisk’s own mobile apps in order to transfer files to and from devices using the flash drive or box. This can either be fine or really bad depending on how easy the app is to use, but seeing as how you’ll be forced to use a specific app, we’re guessing that’s something that users will have to live with.

As for pricing and availability, the flash drive will start at $49 for the 16GB, with the 32GB version costing $59. The larger box will cost $79 and only comes in a 32GB model. The 32GB flash drive seems like the better deal to us, but we’re letting you be the judge of that. SanDisk says that the Connect line will be available sometime next month.

SanDisk Connect: Share and Stream Your Mobile Media Anywhere (For Less)

When was the last time you held a roll of 35mm film in your hands? For a vast majority of folks, it’s been a while seeing as how most cell phones now pull triple duty as our comms, our cameras, and our pocket computers. But getting photos and files off your phone has always been a sticking point—you either have to run cables to your computer, email yourself the files, or entrust your sensitive data to some company’s insecure cloud. With SanDisk’s new Connect line, you’ll never have to deal with cables or clouds again. And they won’t anchor down your wallet, either.
