Cardboard Robots: Paper Beats Metal

I’ve seen my share of sci-fi movies and I know how giant robots can be pretty imposing. But these robots made from cut cardboard look like they couldn’t really do any damage – even the deadly, but tragically-flawed ED-209 from Robocop.

These awesome little cardboard robots were made by Etsy artist Cardboard Myth, and they’re the perfect thing for your desktop toy collection, don’cha think? I sure do. In addition to ED-209, you can find a Gundam-style mech, as well as a couple of totally original creations.

What’s really impressive about these robots is that they all offer articulated limbs, so you can position them like plastic action figures.

Just be careful not to get them wet, and definitely keep them away from open flames. Paper robots hate fire.

You can start building your own cardboard robot army over at Cardboard Myth’s Etsy shop, where these each sell for about $34(USD).

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Teaser Shows Every Doc to Ever Wield the Sonic Screwdriver

If you’re a fan of the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who you probably know that the series has been on the air for 50 years. That’s a long time for any television show to be on the air and I imagine much of the success comes from the premise in the series allowing the actor who plays the Doctor to be replaced on a whim. If viewers find the current Doctor boring, you simply kill him off and replace him.

I mentioned not long ago that the BBC had found some very early episodes from the franchise that were believed to have been lost and planned to show those episodes again. While we wait for those episodes, BBC will be airing a special 75 min. long episode called The Day of the Doctor to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show. That episode is set to air on November 23 and in anticipation the BBC has released a teaser trailer.

Before you get too excited, you need to be aware that the teaser trailer has no footage at all from the special anniversary episode. Rather, the teaser shows every actor that has ever played Doctor Who all the way back to the beginning of the series. The trailer is also the first time that original Timelord William Hartnell has ever been seen in high-definition and color.

Boba Fett Green Sunglasses Good for Sunny Days on Tatooine

If you want to be cool like Boba Fett, it isn’t easy. You need an awesome ship, a bounty hunting license, some really rad armor and a backpack with jets. You are also going to want a pair of cool sunglasses for when you are sitting on the beach relaxing after a tough job.

These awesomely Boba Fetted-out sunglasses match Fett’s Mandalorian armor with an overall green color scheme, along with some yellow and burgundy accents. They even have Fett’s Mandalorian and bounty hunter symbols all over. Fett may be tough, but even he needs UV protection from Tatooine’s dueling suns. These stylish sunglasses have it.

These cool shades are only $19.99(USD) from Entertainment Earth. Because a bounty hunter needs to look good both on and off the job.

Pacific Rim 2 penned, awaiting green light and plotline

The original Pacific Rim was released this summer – it was met with mixed reviews by critics, but more than a little bit of a positive response from those key to the success of a potential series: the fans. This week it’s been revealed by the director of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro, that he’s […]

Felted Mini Star Wars AT-AT (All Terrain-Adorable Transport)

Is this not the cutest little AT-AT you’ve ever seen? Why, this little guy would never march forward to the Imperial March theme and lay waste to Rebel forces. He just wouldn’t have it in him. All of the other AT-ATs talk about trampling the rebel scum, but this guy just wants to have peace and smell some flowers. Maybe make friends with a Tauntaun or two.

He is an outcast. He’s just not like the rest. And that makes him sad. Now you see why he has his head down. This adorable AT-AT comes from Etsy artist famished and is about 5″ long and 6″ high.

He would look good sitting on your desk or shelf. I mean, he’s gonna look sad no matter what I guess, but he is cute and will look good with your other collectibles and toys. You can grab him up for $85(USD). The seller has only made two in this style so when they are gone, that’s it.

All of the other AT-ATs (and General Veers) used to last and call him names. They wouldn’t let poor felty join in any AT-AT games.

Godzilla: One Ring to Stomp Them All

Godzilla is an awesome creature. What’s not to like about a huge-ass monster stomping around Tokyo fighting other monsters, while they lay waste to the city? If Godzilla wore jewelry on his reptilian digits, you know he would wear one of these amazing rings and punch Mothra’s face in with it.

This custom silver Godzilla ring is hand-carved and cast from Sterling silver by Etsy artist UrbanHunting. You can choose sizes 8 through 12 and it will cost you $500(USD). This is a hefty ring obviously, because Godzilla is one hefty Kaiju. This isn’t some skinny ring for Hobbits.

I would suggest finding some other monster rings and arranging daily fights across your knuckles, if you can find someone who makes them anyway. I guess for now, you’ll just be rocking Godzilla all by himself.

This awesome scrap metal Predator was made by Etsy artist zMaiusz of Vietnam. It looks pretty badass and even comes with its own shoulder cannon and removable knife.

It is made from all kinds of bits of scrap metal including nuts, bolts, and a spark plug. I see a lot of screws too and some pieces of bike chain. It is all welded together with a lot of detail. This guy measures 11.4″ x 8.7″ x 4″ and weighs about 3 lbs.

There are several other cool scrap metal creations available in his shop besides this Predator. There are dragons and Aliens and other cool creations. This guy is only $63(USD), and he’d look great on your desk. At least until he activates his cloaking device and runs off.

DIY Star Wars Snowflake Patterns: Use the X-Acto, Luke.

We’ve seen several different Star Wars inspired paper snowflakes surface over the years. Some of them were laser cut and others were apparently done freehand. That meant unless you had a fancy laser cutting set up or were crafty in your own right, you probably weren’t going to make these cool snowflakes yourself. Some new Star Wars snowflakes have surfaced that are made from paper that you can make yourself.

The designs include Boba Fett, Emporer Palpatine, Nien Nunb, and Rancor as well as the AT-AT snowflake, which is my favorite. The good news here is that the designer of the snowflakes, Anthony Herrera, has offered up some patterns that you can print out and cut yourself. Of course, the prospect of all the precision cutting work makes my wrists hurt just thinking about it.

Still, if you have a sharp knife and some time on your hands, you can create your own Star Wars snowflakes with these patterns. Check out the gallery to see several of the available snowflake patterns to choose from.

Star Wars Death Star Grinder: Weapon of Herb Destruction

The Death Star isn’t all about destroying Alderaan. This space station will destroy herbs with the same massive power. It is the ultimate power in the universe and in your kitchen. Etsy seller Pyroteeze makes these so that you can easily and geekily grind up your herbs when cooking (or getting baked).
death star grinder 620x370magnify

Each mini Death Star is made from non toxic polymer clay, and antiqued with a light black acrylic paint. The grinder measures about 2.5 inches across, which is a little smaller than a baseball. Both halves are held shut with a magnet that allows it to roll without falling apart. I also has a spot on the bottom that allows it to sit and not roll everywhere.

It will cost you $22(USD) and is totally worth it. After all, not everyone has a Death Star in their kitchen drawer.

Predator Carved out of a Tree: Get to the Wood Choppa!

Predators are the galaxy’s most fearsome and brutal warriors. They will rip your spine clean out, with your skull still attached. And they like to take trophies to remind them of their hunt. So a Predator would just love this tree with a predator head carved into it.
predator head 620x740magnify

This entire carving took about 90 hours to complete and is the work of one Simon Patel from Walsall, UK. He is one ugly mother! No, not Simon, silly, the tree. Quick get to da choppa! Wait its just a hunk of wood. It’s all cool.

Bonus: his head is flat, so you could give him a different hat every day if you were so inclined. An Abe Lincoln hat, a beanie. Now that would be cool. It would also make this guy far less terrifying.
