Journey Through Time and Space with This Doctor Who Interactive Subway Map

This subway map was created by Crispian Jago and it will take you on a journey through time and space as if you were traveling with the Doctor yourself. It’s all kinds of awesome with bits of amazing and fantastic thrown in too.

doctor who map 1The colored transit lines each represent a different Doctor. All 11 of ‘em. Those stops along the way are the characters and aliens that that Doctor has met. Obviously, the Daleks show up quite a bit. This map is interactive so you can hover over the Doctors and learn about their specific timelines. You can also click on any of the species they’ve encountered in their travels to learn more about them. I have spent far too much time playing with this map today and it is super fun – even though it only takes us through the 2011 series.

Check out the full interactive map here. Set some time aside, it’s too much fun to walk away from.

Avatar Aquarium: Pandora in Your Living Room

The scenes of Pandora in Avatar are still some of the most impressive naturalistic CGI worlds to ever grace the screen. Between the floating islands, the greenery, the waterfalls, and the exotic flora and fauna, it was really a visual spectacle. So when I saw that somebody had attempted to create the lush world of Pandora in their aquarium, I didn’t know if it could be done.

What you’re looking at here is an incredible recreation of the world of Pandora – inside a fish tank. It was created by a DIYer in China, and it replicates the lush green feel of the planet, albeit underwater.

Yeah, the plants look a little like floating broccoli, but the most impressive part of the tiny world is the waterfall effect – which I had no idea you could do underwater. Basically, it’s done with very fine sand being pumped into a trough and recirculated back to the top after it falls. Neat. Here’s a diagram which gives you an idea of how it works:

You can see more info on how to build underwater waterfalls here, but the site is in Chinese, so you’ll want to enable translation. Personally, I’d like it translated into Na’vi.

Star Trek Cat Tree: Scratchship Enterclaws

How’s this for a two-for-one deal: Your cat is going to have a blast, and you get a geeky DIY project. Your mission: To create a cat-friendly model of the Enterprise and/or a Romulan Bird of Prey.

It’s the perfect excuse to name your cat Spot and put some Data makeup on for the ultimate cosplay. You know that Data would have this in his quarters for Spot if he hadn’t been so busy with all of his adventures.

See how it was built step-by-step over at Instructables. It seems like a fairly easy build for anyone who has a cat and a love of Star Trek. If I had two cats, I would build both and let them pretend to battle each other.

TARDIS Onesie is Dorkier on the Inside

Boy, you’d think you could slap a TARDIS on anything and it’d be a good idea. Well that theory has just been disproven thanks to the newly-released Doctor Who TARDIS Onesie.

tardis onesie

Not only does the whole idea of adults wearing onesies make no sense to me, I’m at a complete loss as to why you’d want to wear one that’s even dorkier than a stock onesie. But that didn’t stop someone over at the BBC from licensing the TARDIS and the Doctor Who logo for just that purpose.

According to the product description, the TARDIS onesie is “comfortable, warm and snuggly” – which I suppose is good, because I don’t think anyone else would want to be seen with you wearing this, and you’ll have only your onesie to keep you warm.

If you absolutely must have everything made with a TARDIS on it, you can get the onesie over at Red5 for £39.95 (~$62 USD). I suppose if it could actually transport you through time and space, I might wear one. Or not.

Star Trek Transporter Dog Bed: Beam Me up Scottie Dog!

Get ready for a five year canine mission that mostly involves your dog’s lazy butt sleeping on this Star Trek dog transporter bed. Because to dogs, sleep is the final frontier and they love to explore it.

star trek dog bed

How cool would it be to indoctrinate your pet into a love of Star Trek by buying them this transporter pad dog bed? Of course, you would have a constant fear of them just beaming elsewhere, and violating the Prime Directive, but you could always sabotage the transporter like in many episodes. At least it’s less work than dressing Fido like this…

This sweet dog bed will cost you $69.99(USD). Beam on over to Entertainment Earth and pre-order yours now. Fido will thank you for it.

This Walnut Looks Like Chewbacca

As tough as Wookiees are, even they have trouble cracking walnuts. Walnuts are tough. The toughest walnut ever? That would be this Chewbacca walnut, presumably created by midichlorians. Wookiee nuts have been known to rip the arms off of those who try to open them.
chewbacca walnut
That’s right, I said Wookiee nuts and I refuse to make the obvious joke. This happy and cartoony looking Chewbacca was found in Ripplin’s backyard, where he has a huge black walnut tree that channels the force and make prophesy come true.

I just know that if you plant this in the ground, a Wookiee tree will grow. Because I believe in that kind of magic.

U.S.S. Enterprise Spatula: Cooking with Dilithium Crystals

Breakfast. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the U.S.S. Spatula. It’s mission, to seek out new foods to turn. To boldly flip pancakes like no starship has done before.
Star Trek spatula
You know that the Enterprise’s head chef would totally use this. If they actually cooked by hand anyway. This officially-licensed Star Trek collectible is made of zinc alloy metal & BPA-free silicone. The saucer section is 6″ in diameter, giving you plenty of room to flip pancakes or whatever you’ve got in your skillet.

You will feel like Trelaine or Q, an omnipotent being toying with the Enterprise and her crew as you whip up your bacon and eggs. It is just $24.99(USD) from ThinkGeek and will be available later this month.
