SoftBank Announces Sharp Aquos Xx 302SH And Sharp Aquos Xx mini 303SH

SoftBank Announces Sharp Aquos Xx 302SH And Sharp Aquos Xx mini 303SHJapanese mobile carrier SoftBank has just made an announcement for a couple of new smartphones, namely the Sharp Aquos Xx 302SH and the Sharp Aquos Xx mini 303SH. The introduction of these two smartphones would mean that they would be part of the recently unveiled Fujitsu Arrows A family which was also revealed to play a role in SoftBank’s winter range of smartphones.

Just what kind of hardware capability does these two smartphones carry with them? Well, for starters, they will be LTE-enabled and will run on the latest Snapdragon 800 chipset which happens to sport a quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor accompanied by an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB RAM, although at the recently concluded CEATEC 2013 in Japan, we were introduced to 5G connectivity that will make up part of the country’s communications infrastructure in due time.

Apart from that, both Aquos Xx smartphones will also come with 1080p IGZO displays alongside Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice. In terms of hardware connectivity, they will remain the same, boasting LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and an Infrared port. Needless to say, Sharp has made sure that they keep up with the times by being water- and dust-proof as well. No word on pricing has been revealed just yet, so stay tuned. [Press Release]

    Sharp Smart/Sweet Home

Sharp Smart/Sweet Home[CEATEC 2013] It goes without saying that companies definitely want to make sure that when you purchase a particular home appliance from them, they would also hope for you to take a glance at the other consumer electronics that are on offer from them, wishing that you stick to their very own eco-system. This makes plenty of sense, so engineers for each company would do their possible best to create an “eco-system” of devices that can interact with one another, and Sharp is no different from such a line of thought, too. In fact, CEATEC 2013 saw Sharp promote their Smart/Sweet Home zone with a theoretical “smart house” setup.

In this particular zone, Sharp introduced a variety of products include solar solutions, storage batteries, and HEMS (home energy management system) technology. Not only that, Sharp intends to offer a new relationship between people and home appliances, and as we all know, home appliances do not talk back, although some might actually swear that they suffer from mood swings instead. This “smart home” idea will be based on links between various products that come equipped with COCORO-Engine technology, such as COCOROBO robotic appliances, and hopefully this would make the lives of homemakers more relaxed.

For instance, there is also a cooking range that will be able to offer you a sense of gratitude, where it will be able to say, “Thank you for always using me with care.” Pretty cute, don’t you think so?

    Sharp Mirror Display

Sharp Mirror Display[CEATEC 2013] Fashion stores as well as corporations who wish to impress clients and visitors alike might want to check out this Sharp Mirror Display which works just as the name describes it. It is basically a display that does not look like it in the first place – considering how when turned off, it resembles an ordinary mirror. Send in some electricity and you will see what looks like a miracle.

Needless to say, when turned off, it resembles a mirror-like display. The best way to describe this frameless concept display from Sharp would be the rear view mirror in vehicles that have a built-in monitor, where engaging the reverse gear would let you see what the wide angle cameras on the bumper depict on the rear view mirror itself. That is more or less the same experience with these frameless concept displays from Sharp, and the would definitely work well in commercial situations. As for homes, well, those who value form and function might want to pick it up as their next “TV” device, assuming Sharp is actually going to turn this from concept into reality.

I do wonder how long will it be when that happens, and will the entry price be welcoming enough for the masses to part with their hard earned money?

    Sharp MEMS/IGZO Display

Sharp MEMS/IGZO Display[CEATEC 2013] If you thought that your small tablet or smartphone has one of the best displays that you have ever laid your eyes upon, think again. Sharp could very well change the way things work in the future with their Sharp MEMS/IGZO Display. MEMS stands for MicroElectroMechanical Systems, and IGZO is the acronym for Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide, where the latter would allow higher resolution displays to enjoy a faster refresh rate. For instance the tiny display that you see above carries a resolution of 800 x 1,280 pixels, while sporting a 220ppi pixel density.

It is a compelling case to see this low powered display make its way to smartphones as well as tablets of the future, and we are definitely not going to rule out other applications such as small displays which can be used at stores for advertising or product information services, e-book readers, smart watches, and other kinds of devices that will require a small display. Small and beautiful, this is one of those cases where it pays to see it in the flesh – mere words are unable to translate the viewing experience. Once you check out the Sharp MEMS/IGZO display, it is very difficult to return to that plain old average tablet or smartphone for good.

Sharp Health Care Support Chair Is Actually The Emperor 1510

Sharp Health Care Support Chair Is Actually The Emperor 1510[CEATEC 2013] No wonder it looks so familiar! Remember Sharp’s Health Care Support Chair that we talked about a couple of days ago? Well, I have just been reminded that it is something which we have talked about just as recent as in June this year, where the chair is actually the Emperor 1510. Now that we do realize the chair itself costs a whopping $21,500, I guess it would not matter too much if your home carried the chair, as surely Sharp’s very own intelligent blood pressure monitor as well as other sensors that take down the details of your vital statistics would not cost more than the Emperor 1510 chair itself.

The Emperor 1510 is actually manufactured by MWE Labs that is based in Canada, and it is nice to see the chair being able to be used in different practical applications. I guess the onus remains on the medical as well as research community to come up with something that will be able to benefit the rest of mankind, and hopefully in due time, the price of the chair itself will drop to more manageable levels Alternatively, if you want your blood pressure to remain low, live healthily, get plenty of exercise, eat the right stuff, and of course, remain joyful at all times. Then you won’t need such a fancy chair, but rather, a simple blood pressure monitor would do.

    Sharp Health Care Support Chair

Sharp Health Care Support Chair[CEATEC 2013] We did mention that Japan has the world’s highest number of those who are 65 or older compared to the rest of the population – and this number is growing more and more by the year, having already hit the 20% mark. Hence, it is imperative that technology moved at a pace which will make sure that the elderly are able to get up and about with their daily lives without impairing their mobility. Sharp demonstrated their Health Care Support Chair at the CEATEC booth, where sitting on it would make you feel as though you were Captain James T. Kirk, ready to send the Enterprise (or in this case, the rest of your household) into warp travel.

    Sharp IGZO Frameless Concept Displays

Sharp IGZO Frameless Concept Displays[CEATEC 2013] We have seen TVs go from their large and fat form factors to being as slim as possible, and all the while that is happening, there was work done to increase the resolution count. Our minds were blown away when we first saw the visual quality difference between video CDs and DVDs, and the jump to Blu-ray discs (a moment of silence for the fallen HD DVD format, please) proved to be another milestone to remember. Not only that, all the time, bezels on TVs were getting thinner and thinner, so much so that smartphones like the LG G2, too, have adopted a similar approach. Sharp did show off their frameless concept displays that boasted of IGZO technology at CEATEC this year, and it looked fantastic.
