Posted in: Today's ChiliApple is no stranger to lawsuits especially in China where they have faced off against other Chinese companies in the past. However it looks like Apple will be taking things to the next level as the Cupertino company will not only be suing a Chinese company by the name of Zhizhen Network Technology, but they will also be going after China’s State Intellectual Property Office. The reason is over Apple’s Siri feature in which Apple and Zhizhen had a dispute over. For those unfamiliar, back in 2013 the Chinese company sued Apple over Siri, claiming that the software copied their technology which is found on their Xiao I Robot.
According to the patent filing, it would seem that is indeed the case as Zhizhen’s patent was filed in 2004, many years before Siri was even introduced to iOS. Apple had asked the patent office invalidate the patent to which they refused, which is why Apple has decided to include them in the mix in their lawsuit as well. A hearing of Zhizhen’s case was done back in July last year but no ruling was made, suggesting that it might be a while before we hearing anything. This new lawsuit will be heard on Thursday by the Beijing Number One Intermediate People’s Court. Will Apple prove successful even in the face of suing a government agency? We guess we will have to wait and find out.

Microsoft is late to the game when it comes to putting a digital assistant on its phones, but the wait might be worth it. Sources close to the project have revealed some of the specifics of Microsoft’s upcoming "Cortana" service to The Verge, and it could be the very best of Siri and Google Now.
How to Make Siri Write Your Emails
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen Siri was first introduced, Apple presented it in such a way that made the feature seem flawless and extremely responsive. In reality? Well back when Siri was first released with the iPhone 4S, it definitely did not perform as advertised. Many complaints found that Siri was slow, unresponsive, and failed to understand them as there were some accents that Siri found hard to listen to. Apple was hit with a lawsuit over false advertising which the company later claimed that Siri was still considered to be in beta, and now fast forward two years, a federal judge has decided to throw out the lawsuit against Apple, claiming that he did not find that Apple committed fraud.
According to US District Judge, Claudia Wilken, she found that Apple’s marketing descriptions of Siri were not considered to be fraud, and that Apple’s claims of Siri being “the coolest feature”, a “breakthrough”, and “an intelligent personal assistant” were just “puffery” and were not grounds for a lawsuit. Based on this ruling, it would seem that future lawsuits against Apple over Siri will most likely face the same outcome as well, thanks to the ruling which has set a precedent for future cases. Customers who filed the lawsuit were not allowed to amend their complaint and their next course of action will be to appeal to a higher court.

Siri Eyes Free is a feature that Apple unveiled a while ago in the Chevy Sonic and Spark (just to name a few vehicles participating in this program). This basically introduced Siri into vehicles where it allowed the driver to press a button their steering wheel in order to activate Apple’s voice assistant feature without having to look at their phone. From there, the driver will be able to instruct Siri to perform a variety of tasks, such as reading out emails or messages that they have received, once again, without having to touch their phone. This is undoubtedly a great safety feature but at the same time, a recent ad for the Chevy Equinox has shown that perhaps having Siri integrated into your car can lead to awkward and humorous situations.
The ad basically shows a man and his wife/girlfriend in the car where she asks him how his night went, in which he replied very nonchalantly, but only to have Siri “rat” him out via his messages. The ad was designed to be humorous but at the same time makes you wonder if Siri Eyes Free is really a feature you would want to use in a car full of friends, family, or co-workers, where there might be some messages/topics that you don’t want to be broadcasted to the entire car.
