Siri has provided iPhone users around the planet with everything from weather forecasts to restaurant reviews, whilst fending off dumb-ass questions along the way. But if you ever wondered who whispered all those sweet nothings, here’s your answer.
Apple has reportedly acquired Cue, a social search engine which indexed email and other user details to construct a dynamic, personalized calendar, in a move that’s seen as taking on Google Now. Cue, which launched as Greplin back in early 2011 and then rebranded last year, is widely expected to be integrated into Siri as […]
Looks like Siri might be getting an upgrade after Apple bought Cue, an app that makes personalized agendas based on scanning emails. TechCrunch’s sources say that the purchase price was somewhere between $40 and $60 million, and that Apple plans to keep the company running. In other words, watch out Google Now. [TechCrunch]
Apple released Siri back in October 2011, allowing those with supported iOS devices to have a number of discussions with the digital assistant to help in a number of ways that includes sending a text, playing a song and changing your schedule around. For nearly two years, Siri has been a completely faceless entity, but a group of Japanese artist have attempted to put a face with the voice as they’ve drawn anime-inspired versions of Siri. (more…)

One of the highlights of iOS 7, apart from its redesign, would be an increased in security namely through the Activation Lock feature which would require the user to enter a password if they wish to wipe the phone, ultimately deterring thieves from stealing the phone and reselling it. The feature joins Find My iPhone in adding to the list of security features of the iPhone, but unfortunately thanks to a loophole in Siri, Find My iPhone can actually be disabled through it.
It has been discovered that even if you were to put a passcode lock on your iPhone, by enabling Siri, you will be able to enable Airplane Mode which would ultimately disable Find My iPhone. This isn’t so much a bug but more of an oversight especially since Siri has now been given more functionality with the update. We expect Apple will want to swiftly address this issue if they hope that the new iOS 7 update will be a secure one. In any case there’s still the Activation Lock feature that thieves need to go through if they wish to completely wipe the device and resell it, but for now they are still able to disable Find My iPhone which would make it harder for them to be tracked down.

Apple Removes Beta Tag From Siri
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen Apple first announced Siri, it was initially met with positive feedback based on the demonstrations performed on stage, but in real life Siri just did not live up to expectations, leading Apple to deal with lawsuits and claims that Siri was being falsely advertised. Siri was then revealed to be in “beta” which would explain why it was not performing optimally and the beta tagline was usually found on the bottom of the Siri page on Apple’s website, where it reads, “Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access.”
However now with iOS 7 pegged for a release in the next couple of days, it seems that Apple thinks that Siri is apparently functional enough to exit its beta phase, and the website has since removed the “beta” tag from the wording from the bottom. It is true that Apple was planning on making major improvements to Siri in iOS 7, so hopefully in a few days when the update has been released to the masses, we will know if Siri has truly been upgraded or if it is still the same and somewhat clunky feature that debuted with the iPhone 4S.

As of the 18th of September, iOS 7 will be out in the wild, and with it the final (or first, however you like to see it) full version of Siri. Up until now Siri has been labeled with a “Beta” tag by Apple for all of the devices that’ve used it – iPhone 4S, […]
Oh snap!
Posted in: Today's ChiliOh snap! Looks like Siri is technically (and quietly) leaving beta with the rollout of iOS 7.
Android users have Google Now, iPhone users have Siri and assuming these latest reports prove to be accurate, Windows Phone users will have Cortana. Well, more specifically, Windows Phone users will have a digital personal assistant that competes with Google Now and Siri. For now the Cortana name appears to be nothing more than a […]
