SkyDrive Users Experience Access Issues

SkyDrive Users Experience Access IssuesHmmm, it seems that gaining access to a particular online service is not all that plain sailing in the past few days. Google had issues with their Gmail, with slow email deliveries being one of the major thorns recently, and here we are with Microsoft’s SkyDrive – a cloud data storage service that does seem to affect a bunch of folks who are unable to see or modify their files.

In a Live Status page, it posted an alert at 4 pm Eastern time today that stated, “SkyDrive is having problems accessing and modifying files. You might not be able to view, change, upload, or delete files.” So far, it remains to be seen as to what is the cause of such issues. Of course, this is not the first time that something like this has affected Microsoft’s online services, and knowing the law of probability, it will not be the last, either. In August, Microsoft also stared down a barrel of problems which affected SkyDrive, Outlook.com and People services, with the Outlook.com problems taking a few days to resolve. That was certainly a far bleaker situation compared to today. Hopefully, Microsoft’s engineers will be able to iron out the kinks in no time at all.

Microsoft Gives 200GB Free 2-Years SkyDrive Storage With New Surface 2 And Surface Pro 2 Purchases

So, the big news from Microsoft yesterday were two of its tablet – the Surface 2 as well as the Surface Pro 2, which was announced to the masses to continue from where the existing Surface models left off. The thing is, the good news has not stopped since yesterday, as here we are with a video that you can check out above. Microsoft is offering to those who have decided to pick up the new Surface 2 as well as Surface Pro 2 tablet a whopping 200GB of free storage on SkyDrive – not for one, but years as well.

As for others who do not have the mind to pick up one of these new tablets, Microsoft has decided to provide them with the option to obtain the new 200GB storage option, although you will need to fork out a Benjamin for it each year. In the past, the storage limit stood at 100GB, which will burn a $50 hole in your pocket each year. If you want to have a rough idea on what 200GB is able to deliver, imagine snapping “a photo, every hour, from the moment someone is born, to the day they graduate from college.” Now that is certainly something to think about, no? Microsoft SkyDrive accounts now top out at 200GB

Microsoft unveiled the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 at an event earlier this morning. Included in that announcement was also details of the docking station and a variety of covers, but it seems there was also a bit of good news for those who were hoping to have a 200GB SkyDrive account. In short, […]

Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 buyers get 200GB SkyDrive storage for two years, free international Skype calls for one year (updated)

Need another reason to pick up Microsoft’s latest iteration of the Surface tablet, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2? How’s 200GB of free SkyDrive storage for the first two years, plus what Microsoft’s calling “the best of Skype” (free international calling and WiFi hotspot access) for the first year? Because that’s exactly what you’ll get when you plunk down the $450 / $900 for the new Windows tablet line later this year.

Both of Microsoft’s services — SkyDrive for cloud file saving and Skype for online phone / text / video chat — are part of the purchase price apparently, though that comes with a limited time plan. But is it enough to entice consumers who were already burned once by the first Surface line? That’s a question that only time can answer, but we sure don’t mind the bonus stuff!

Update: Microsoft’s official PR says the deal applies to both versions of the new Surface (RT and Pro) and we’ve updated our post accordingly. Additionally, that free Skype international calling works for “calling to landlines in more than 60 countries,” and the Skype WiFi deal offers unlimited access for that first year.

Update 2: Oh, and should you decide you want to keep that capacious storage in the cloud past two years, or don’t want to buy a Surface to get it in the first place, Microsoft’s announced that users can add 200GB to their SkyDrives for just $100 a year.

SkyDrive Pro storage boost reinforces Microsoft’s dedication to cloud storage

Microsoft has announced some changes to SkyDrive Pro today. The changes touch on storage and sharing and in both cases these are going in the direction that one would expect and hope to see. Simply put, storage is being increased and moving forward it should be a bit easier to find those shared items you […]

Microsoft boosts base SkyDrive Pro storage to 25GB, lets administrators add more

Microsoft boosts base SkyDrive Pro storage to 25GB

Microsoft’s SkyDrive Pro is helpful for cloud-savvy businesses, but its 7GB of storage per person now seems restrictive next to improved offerings from rivals like Box. The company won’t let itself be outdone, however: it just bumped SkyDrive Pro’s base storage to 25GB per user, and administrators can raise that limit to 100GB if they’re willing to pay. There’s some incentives to take advantage of that extra space, too. Microsoft now offers a larger 2GB file cap, automatic versioning for new users and a client view that displays all shared documents. If your employer depends on Microsoft for online collaboration, you should notice the additional storage today.

Microsoft explains Outlook.com outage, provides long-term fixes

Microsoft resolves Outlookcom outage, offers explanation and longterm fix

It may have taken three days, but Microsoft has officially resolved its Outlook.com outage — and it has both explanations and long-term solutions for affected email users. Trouble began with the failure of a caching service for Exchange ActiveSync. The resulting deluge of reconnection attempts promptly overwhelmed company servers; a slow recovery was necessary to avoid another meltdown, Microsoft says. To prevent repeat incidents, the tech giant is both upgrading its network capacity and implementing a more elegant error handling system. While the fixes likely come too late for some users, they suggest that Microsoft has learned a hard lesson about the fragility of online services.

SkyDrive brand change set amid potential legal battle

Microsoft has decided to skip a battle they’d have had to fight if they’d continued down the road with their cloud storage service SkyDrive amid a call to action by British Sky Broadcasting. That company, also known as BSkyB, planned legal means of ending Microsoft’s use of the “SkyDrive” brand name due to conflicts with

Microsoft To Rename SkyDrive Following Court Verdict

Microsoft To Rename SkyDrive Following Court Verdict

You might be familiar with SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud based data storage. The company has put in a lot of resources in to building up this brand, particularly in the competitive cloud storage niche where you have players like Dropbox and Apple’s iCloud. Recently, a UK court gave its verdict on a lawsuit brought by BSkyB, which claimed that Microsoft was infringing on its trademark through the SkyDrive brand. The court ruled in favor of BSkyB. Both companies have now reached a settlement.

Microsoft won’t be appealing the court’s verdict, meaning that it is going to rename SkyDrive. In the meantime, BSkyB has agreed to let it use the brand for a “reasonable” time to ensure smooth transition. Details of this settlement have not been revealed, it is said that various financial terms are part of the settlement as well. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed the agreement, saying that company is “glad” that the dispute has now finally been resolved. As to what Microsoft will now brand its cloud storage service, that will remain a mystery for the next couple of weeks.
