While the BlackBerry brand may not be doing as well as they’d hoped with the launch of BlackBerry 10 and the devices it runs on, an impending BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) app for iOS and Android still appears all the rage. This app has been announced for both Apple mobile products and Google’s Android, but no […]
LG Enact launches on Verizon, keeps the flame alive for QWERTY slider phones
Posted in: Today's ChiliVerizon isn’t just releasing its variant of the HTC One today — it also has a treat for fans of the oft-neglected QWERTY slider smartphone. The carrier has just launched the once-rumored LG Enact, which hides a landscape keyboard underneath its 4-inch WVGA screen. As you might gather from the display, though, this device is no flagship. The combination of a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a VGA front camera and 8GB of expandable storage puts the Enact at the low end. What’s more, it’s also stuck on Android 4.1. When LG’s new device costs $20 on contract, however, it’s inexpensive enough that many fans of hardware keys can afford to take a look.

Oppo may have already confirmed the existence of its N-Lens series devices, but it’s offering us a few more details through official teasers for the line’s inaugural smartphone, the N1. While the posts show little of the handset in question, they point to both a September launch and backside touch input. It’s also clear that the N1 is important to Oppo — a timeline (pictured after the break) positions the phone as a spiritual successor to last year’s Find 5 flagship. With the unveiling just weeks away, we won’t have to wait long to get the full story.

Is This the Gold iPhone 5S?
Posted in: Today's ChiliWith all this talk of a golden iPhone you may have been expecting something terribly bling. But this leaked image, published by Japanese website Weekly Ascii, claims to show off the new "champagne" iPhone and it… it doesn’t look that bad.
When Canonical took to Indiegogo to crowdfund its Ubuntu Edge smartphone, the $32 million it sought seemed like an incredibly lofty goal. And, one that’s now proven unattainable. Despite quickly selling out of the lowest pledge tier that included a handset, reducing the price of more expensive tiers, then doing the same again as the deadline loomed, the campaign has closed over $19 million shy of its goal. Still, raising just over $12.8 million is a record of sorts, depending on whether you believe a failed effort qualifies. In total, a handful of high-cost bundles were pledged for, 5,674 backers coughed up enough for a lone Edge, and many more thousands offered small sums in support — or, some just really wanted a T-shirt. We’re not convinced the journey ends here, though. After all, there’s clearly some desire for the Edge. Will we see investors step in to make it happen? Or, perhaps Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth will finally see fit to pump some of his own substantial reserves into the project.
A project update from Shuttleworth can be found at the source link. In addition to thanking backers, he says that “the support and publicity has continued to drive our discussions with some major manufacturers,” adding: “Watch this space!”
