Maxthon updates iOS browser with ‘shake-and-send’ cloud push and more

DNP Maxthon updates iOS browser with 'shakeandsend' cloud push and more

It’s been a long while since Maxthon updated its iOS app, and hot on the heels of iOS 7, it finally has. Not only does it offer the usual speed and performance enhancements, the latest update to the mobile browser also reveals easier access to social media, a unique “shake-and-send” feature that lets you send content to the cloud by shaking the phone, localization in 15 more languages and a new “Push Away Menu” that supposedly helps you navigate the web one-handed. Seeing as Safari didn’t get a ton of updates with iOS 7, it might prove useful to hit the source and seek out a possible alternative.

Stardock’s Free LogonStudio Now Works with Vista

This article was written on June 06, 2007 by CyberNet.

Stardock is all about offering a ton of applications for customizing the appearance of your computer, and the logon screen is no exception. They offer their LogonStudio application at no cost, and with it you’ll be able to alter the background that you see when logging into your Vista or XP machine.

Vista LogonStudio

By default there are only four backgrounds that ship with LogonStudio, but if you head over to WinCustomize there are many more available. The thing I really found to be cool was that you can click the Load button in LogonStudio, and actually setup your own background image to apply. In just a few clicks you can have a completely revamped login screen that is sure to catch the attention of your friends, such as this one:

Vista LogonStudio

One thing I wish the program did do was offer an option to rotate through backgrounds. Maybe randomly select images from your pictures photo to display at each login? That would pretty awesome!

If you find any sweet backgrounds to use with LogonStudio let me know, because I’m looking to spiffify my computer. 🙂

Download Firefox Portable 2 RC2

This article was written on October 07, 2006 by CyberNet.

Firefox Logo If you are still skeptical about trying out Firefox 2 RC2 then maybe you should tinker around with the portable version that has been put together by John Haller. It includes his awesome new launcher that offers significant speed improvements when re-launching Firefox from the same computer.

If you are experiencing issues with incompatible extensions then you should either disable the compatibility check or use the Nightly Tester Tools. Those two methods will allow you to use your Firefox extensions but that doesn’t mean they will work. A lot of the extension developers appear to be releasing Firefox 2 compatibility updates including Google who just released a new version of their Notebook extension.

Android KitKat teased with updates for Hangouts, Gmail, Search

This week the teams behind several of Google’s key apps for Android have ushered in updates that tie the family together closer, ushering in an environment ripe for a new operating system iteration. That new version is, of course, Android 4.4 KitKat, and considering Google has been ushering in the press on the subject so […]

Google Voice update adds short code support, warns you when you text 911

Image

An update to Google Voice today brings a useful, if not earth-shattering, new feature: support for SMS short codes. If your primary phone number is the one associated with your Google Voice account, this means you’ll finally be able to use these codes for online banking and other services without your message showing up as sent from your carrier number. Today’s update also adds a warning message whenever you type the 911 short code — a handy safeguard, if you ask us. Nab the Android app update via the source link below.

Skype for Mac version 6.9 is out, brings more specific screen sharing options

Skype for Mac version 6.9 is out, brings more specific screen sharing options

Not a major overhaul by any means, but good news for anyone who’s been using Skype for Mac and has been frustrated by a few lingering limitations. The latest build, version 6.9, corrects an annoying bug that caused the name field to overlap with mood messages on certain profile pages. The Skype team also changed the way screen sharing works, so that you can share just a specific window if you want, and not the whole screen. Other changes: when you do a search from the toolbar, phone numbers for Mac contacts now appear in the results. If you hover your cursor over links, it’ll now look like a hand. Finally, Skype added support for three more European languages: Swedish, Finnish and European Portuguese. And that’s all she wrote! Hit up that second source link below to download the latest version.

Amazon brings MP3 purchasing to its Cloud Player for PC app

The Mac version is still only promised to be coming soon, but Amazon has today delivered a fairly big update to its Cloud Player for PC application. It now boasts an integrated MP3 store, which will let you browse and purchase music without having to visit Amazon’s website. Naturally, all purchases made through the app will then be accessible from any other capable device, and you’ll see Amazon’s usual recommendations for new music based on your purchases. Beyond that, though, the application itself appears to remain mostly unchanged.

Google Shopping Express intros new mobile app, expands Bay Area service

DNP Google Shopping Express intros new mobile app, expands Bay Area service

Google began testing its new same-day delivery service, Shopping Express, with a limited trial for San Francisco customers back in March, and it’s apparently proven successful enough for an expansion. Starting today, residents of the greater Bay Area — from San Francisco to San Jose — can streamline their to-do list by having local stores deliver straight to their doors. Included on the list of participating retailers are national giants like Target, Toys R Us, Walgreens, Staples and Whole Foods (just to name a few), though some smaller businesses will also take part. The service is also expanding to mobile phones, as Google is launching a new Shopping Express app for both Android and iOS devices; with it, you can search for items, browse different stores and place orders from your phone. Gmail for Android update brings cleaner conversation view and improved multi-select

Gmail for Android update brings cleaner conversation view and improved multiselect

Google’s made quite the habit out of improving its Gmail offering, and for those relying on the Android app in order to access their email, you’ll find a pleasant new update available starting today. The refreshed build ushers in a cleaner conversation view, as well a number of additional design tweaks “such as checkmarks for multiple message selection so you can easily see what messages you are about to move, archive or delete.” Oh, and in case you occasionally deal with bouts of disconnectedness, the app now notifies you right from the inbox if account sync is nonfunctional for any reason. Enjoy!
