Drones: The reason future humans won’t have to do some very dangerous things. That includes not piloting vehicles for crazy aerial photography. And this video proves that we’re better off letting the drones do the dirty for us. About four minutes in, the UAV takes a dive into the drink. Brrr.
A couple of exciting announcements have been made today. As if one Google Play Edition device wasn’t enough, we have been treated to two in one single day! After LG officially announced the very first Google Play Edition tablet, its vanilla Android touting G Pad 8.3, Sony too has made a similar announcement, though about a smartphone. The Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition has been released today.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone was released earlier this year and it boasts impressive specifications. Up front, there’s a gigantic 6.4 inch HD Triluminos display powered by X-Reality for mobile engine, quadcore Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm, NFC, 4G LTE, as well as IP55 & IP58 certification, proof of the Z Ultra being dust resistant and waterproof. Google Play Edition variants don’t have different hardware specifications, so the Xperia Z Ultra GPE has the exact same hardware under the hood. The only difference, a major one at that, is the software. This variant ships with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, and since GPE provides the “Nexus experience,” these variants are further up the line whenever a major Android OS update is being rolled out. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is available for purchase today in the U.S. through Google Play Store for $649.00, it hasn’t been revealed when this variant will be released in additional markets.

Sony SmartWatch 2 Review
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere’s a smartwatch war going on right now – did you know? With the Smartwatch 2, Sony reminds the world that they’ve already been in the market for a generation, with months of head start going in an unbroken line of evolutionary products (even if it’s just two) that lead to today’s wearable. While the […]
Sony is a consumer electronics beast with a lot of clout, but not necessarily a great product roster to back up its legendary status. Today, it’s hardly the company that put a Walkman in every backpack and a color TV in every living room.
If its predecessors are any indication, the PlayStation 4 will eventually be released in a variety of colors and finishes. It probably won’t be released in faux wood though. That’s where dbrand comes in. The Canadian company sells gadget skins made from 3M vinyls. One of their newest products is a mahogany skin for the PS4.
I don’t like how the vinyl looks on the Dualshock 4, but the console looks sweet. If you’re of the same opinion, don’t fret because the skins for the console and the controller are not bundled. In fact the skin for the PS4 is actually made of several pieces, which again can be bought separately.
You can order the mahogany vinyl for the PS 4 from dbrand. It will set you back $45 (USD) if you choose to buy skins for the entire console and one controller. You can also mix and match your order with other types of skins, such as carbon fiber and several metal finishes. Dbrand doesn’t have skins for the Xbox One yet, but I don’t think that will be the case for long.

Sony RX10 Photo and Video Samples
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack in October, Sony announced the Cyber-Shot RX10, a 24-200mm camera that had the particularity of featuring a lens with a fixed f2.8 aperture, regardless of how far you zoom. Inside, it shares most of its hardware with its famed RX100 older sibling which was built for ultra-compact low-light performance. When I previously covered the RX10, I imagined that it would be a great “do it all” camera since most people I know love having the flexibility of a long zoom.
Most high-powered zoom lenses aperture will get smaller as you zoom far away. This means that less light hit the sensor and of course, that has a big impact on noise and image quality. That’s why the RX10’s fixed f2.8 aperture is so great – you get all the long-zoom benefits, without the obvious drawbacks. I had an opportunity to put the theory to the test yesterday: here are some photos and video that I have captured with an RX10 loaner that I had on hand for a few hours yesterday. (more…)

Sony is no stranger to creating odd advertisements for their products – and their not about to quit with the PlayStation 4 here at the dawn of the console’s release in Hong Kong.
