Sony Rumored To Be Working On 54MP Full Frame Sensor

Sony Rumored To Be Working On 54MP Full Frame SensorSafe to say, most of you guys are probably familiar with how more megapixels does not necessarily equate to better photos, but there are times when more megapixels are necessary, such as when photographers need to print large photos and don’t want to lose out on the detail. In any case according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, it seems that Sony is working on a 54MP full frame sensor for 2014, and that if they were to implement it, chances are we might see it manifest itself in 2015 or 2016 cameras. Why is it taking so long? Well apparently to manufacture a 54MP sensor is very expensive, so it might be able before Sony figures out a way to lower costs to produce it more efficiently.

According to the rumor, the sensor will feature 2,460 focusing points, with the focusing area covering about 78% of the entire sensor itself. Based on this we have to assume that this sensor will probably be targeted towards the professional photographer, and not your average hobbyist, but what do you guys think? Does a 54MP full frame sensor sound like something you could get on board with?

PS4 Launch Sales In UK Cross 250,000 Mark

PS4 Launch Sales In UK Cross 250,000 Mark

Earlier today we reported that Sony’s latest gaming console, the PlayStation 4, is the fastest selling console in UK. That report included an estimate that Sony might have managed to sell around 200,000 units during the launch weekend. Sales figures have finally come in from retailers across the country. During the launch weekend across the pond, Sony sold over 250,000 PlayStation 4, making it indeed the fastest selling gaming console to have ever been sold in the UK.

In its first 48 hours of sale, Microsoft’s latest console, the Xbox One, managed to sell just over 150,000 units. Obviously the PS4 is leading Xbox One in that particular region, and we reported yesterday, it seems that Sony’s console will continue to lead its rival during the early sales period. However, analysts are of the view that Xbox One sales in the UK might surge prior to the Christmas shopping period. Nevertheless, both consoles have managed to outsell the Nintendo Wii U in the UK, which has up till now managed to sell over 150,000 units despite the fact that it has been out for over a year now. Sony’s console raked in over £87 million during its launch weekend, and it doesn’t look like its going to lose momentum anytime soon.

PS4 Sale Arranged Online Goes Wrong As Buyer Kills Seller

PS4 Sale Arranged Online Goes Wrong As Buyer Kills Seller

Last month Sony and Microsoft released their new gaming consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively. Both consoles are without a doubt hot items right now, with retailers selling out of stock and buyers having to resort to paying more for buying the console off the internet through individual sellers. One such deal, arranged online, has gone horribly wrong in San Francisco. When they both met, the buyer shot the seller, took the PS4 console and fled. As of now, police are investigating and have yet to make an arrest.

The victim who was selling his PS4 has been described as a male in his early 20s, was shot multiple times by the suspect being described only as an adult male. This happened around the area of Jerrold Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard near Highway 101 at about 3:30 pm in the afternoon. The victim was later taken to the hospital where he passed away. This unfortunate event is one of the many that have recently been reported, one man got fleeced last week by someone who handed him a PS4 box full of towels instead of the console and fled with the money whereas a local GameStop in Indianapolis was robbed recently, the robbers specifically asked for all Xbox One units, but since the store was sold out, the opted for nine PS4 costing around $3,400.

PlayStation 4 Sells 250K Units In The UK During Launch Weekend, But Steam One-ups With 7M Concurrent Users

    img_2478

The PlayStation 4 took home the record for sales of a launch console this weekend in the UK, topping 250,000 units sold in 48 hours, which tallies up to around $1.4 billion U.S. in sales, according to The Telegraph. That’s far better than the PlayStation 3 managed back when it launched, and a good 100K units better than the 150,000 units reportedly sold by Microsoft during its Xbox One launch in the UK a week ago.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony are talking official numbers for the launches of their devices in the UK, despite crowing about million-plus device sales for their respective North American launches. Microsoft launched in more markets with its first release, however, as Matthew Panzarino points out, that included the UK in its pool.

It’s hard to make a strong case for a dramatic lead by either console at this stage in the game, with imperfect information coming in, but the PS4 does seem to maintain a slightly lead based on what we know. The last time a game console sold anywhere near as many units on launch day was the PSP, which shipped 185,000 units back in 2005. The Nintendo Wii U isn’t even in the running, which doesn’t bode well for Nintendo’s next decade.

Another interesting stat to coincide with these record console numbers: Steam has just announced that it passed a 7 million simultaneous user login milestone, meaning that many people were using its games platform all at once. That’s an incredible number given the usual pace of console sales, let alone active players, so Valve and its Steambox/SteamOS plans are still the key player to watch in this race as far as I’m concerned.

PS4 sells 250k units in 48hrs to become fastest selling console ever in UK

The Sony PS4 game console has been selling very well in all the parts of the world where it is available. The console has sold so well in the US that it’s nearly impossible to find one in a store. The console has also proven to be very popular in the UK. In fact, sources […]

PS4 Is The Fastest Selling Console In UK History

PS4 Is The Fastest Selling Console In UK HistorySony’s PlayStation 4 is off to a good start for the most part, but it seems that over in the UK, the PS4 is doing more than just well as there are reports that the console has managed to achieve the title of the fastest selling console in UK history, beating out the Sony PSP’s record sales of 185,000 at launch back in 2005. This is according to Chart-Track who claims that the PS4 has managed to beat the PSP’s record. The official numbers from Sony have yet to be released, but assuming Chart-Track’s numbers are any indication, it would be safe to assume that perhaps the PS4 would have sold maybe close to 200,000 or more at launch.

Both the Sony PS4 and the Microsoft Xbox One are currently battling it out for the best console, and given that both consoles were released with very little delay between launches, the fight at the moment is pretty intense, with some markets favoring the Xbox One, while other markets favor the PS4. In any case it’s still probably a bit too early to tell which console has managed to fare better, but so far both appear to be doing pretty well. What do you guys think? How many units of the PS4 do you reckon Sony managed to sell at launch?

    PSN Suspends Redemption Of Vouchers

PSN Suspends Redemption Of VouchersIf you are a gamer who intends to redeem your vouchers on the PlayStation Network (PSN), but somehow or rather still continue to run into issues that prevent you from doing so, that is because your account has experienced a suspension. The thing is, you do not need to freak out at all, since the redemption of vouchers has been suspended. This particular bit of news was announced over on the PlayStation Blog by Sid Shuman, who also happens to be a social media manager at Sony.

Shuman shared, “Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this time. Other PSN features such as log in, online multiplayer gaming, PlayStation Plus trials, PlayStation Store (excluding voucher redemption), Trophies, messages, friends, etc are all available.”

It remains to be seen just why is Sony grappling with issues concerning their released vouchers, and this is definitely a case of solving it sooner rather than later being better for everyone. We do know, however, that when the PS4 was launched in Europe as well as in Australia and New Zealand, we brought you word that a couple of PSN features had been disabled but for a moment in order not to overload it. PS4 Off To A Slow Start In Brazil

PS4 Off To A Slow Start In BrazilWe have been hearing reports that the Sony PlayStation 4 has been selling out at various locations in the world, and that it is even beating out the Xbox One in terms of sales, at least for now, but if there’s one place that the PS4 is not doing well at the moment it is in Brazil, where the console costs an eye-watering $1,850, thanks mostly to taxes that hiked up the price. According to initial reports by the G1 news network, it seems that the reception to the PS4 in Brazil is very cold and they had reported that no sales occurred at midnight when the console was launched, and that there were no lines to be seen, which is frankly the opposite of what is happening in other parts of the world.

Like we said earlier, the price of the console, at least officially, is what is putting gamers off from making their purchases, although there are reports that the console is still being bought albeit through unofficial channels, presumably where the prices are a lot more reasonable compared to what Sony is asking for officially. Sony has admitted that this pricing is bad for gamers but as it stands they can’t do anything due to the taxes, unless of course they open up shop in Brazil and start manufacturing there. Hopefully Sony is able to get this under control, but if any of our readers in Brazil can confirm this, let us know in the comments below!

Man Buys PS4 Off Craigslist And Ends Up With A Box Of Towels

Man Buys PS4 Off Craigslist And Ends Up With A Box Of Towels

Microsoft and Sony both launched their new game consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, in November. Most retailers immediately sold out of stock which meant that those customers who weren’t able to get their pre-orders in had to wait until the consoles were back in stock. Both companies are working hard to ensure that there’s enough stock to go around particularly during the time when Christmas shopping picks up. A man in Colorado Springs wanted to buy a PS4 for his son as a Christmas present so he found a seller on Craigslist, met him and paid him an undisclosed amount. There was no console in the box, it was stuffed full of towels.

People are usually cautious about deals that originate on Craigslist, it is very easy to get scammed or worse, even robbed or physically hurt when you go to meet the other party. The father met with the ad’s poster in the lobby of a motel and handed over the money, the police hasn’t disclosed how much he was going to pay for the console. After handing over the money, he checked the box only to find towels inside. By then the other person ran to a getaway car already waiting in the parking lot and fled. The victim essentially spent several hundred dollars on towels that cost much less. There’s a lesson to be learnt here, always check the goods before you hand over the money and try your best to stick with official retailers when possible.

Indianapolis GameStop Robbers Take PS4s After Demanding All Xbox One Units

Indianapolis GameStop Robbers Take PS4s After Demanding All Xbox One Units

You have diehard fans on either side of the PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One debate. They can keep throwing arguments back and forth and the debate would never end. Both consoles have performed well in the market ever since they have been released, and both companies are working hard to replenish stock at retailers so that there is enough to go around when the holiday season arrives. A local GameStop was robbed in Indianapolis recently, and the robbers specifically asked for all Xbox One units that the store had. Since that particular store was sold out of Microsoft’s latest console, the two suspects settled for the second best option, in their opinion, the Sony PlayStation 4.

Two store workers present at that GameStop location were forced into a back room, according to the police report, and made to lay down as the suspects tried to zip tie the workers. The robbers were able to steal nine PS4 units valued at $3,600 and they also ripped a surveillance camera off the wall in the process. Police is investigating the robbery and it is entirely unclear why the robbers were specifically interested in Xbox One only. Perhaps they really were diehard fans of Microsoft’s latest gaming machine.
