What about the Wii U?

Everyone’s in a tizzy about the “new” console generation, conveniently forgetting that, market-wise, it was already here a year ago with the release of Nintendo’s Wii U. It isn’t as advanced technologically as the new Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox One, but the Wii U’s like the kid who still likes Ninja Turtles when everyone’s moved on to Power Rangers: They might not be as cool, but they’re still your classmate, and they’re still going to graduate with everyone else. Nintendo might seem a little square compared to Sony and Microsoft right now, but it still has the skills to succeed in school.

At launch, Nintendo sold out its entire initial allotment of 400,000 Wii U’s — which looked promising — but after the holidays, sales softened significantly and continued to slide. By E3, the situation wasn’t looking so good. Just a few months later, Nintendo announced a price cut of $50 for the console, reducing its profit on each unit sold. However, the price reduction also moved a lot of units, with the Wii U experiencing a 200 percent uptick in sales for the month of September.

Twitch cracks down on ‘non-gaming’ broadcasts by PlayStation 4 owners

Faced with an influx of living-room livestreamers and the risqué content that follows, Twitch has begun a crackdown on PlayStation 4 streams. The company has taken to its Twitter account to remind users that broadcasting via the console’s Playroom feature, which uses Sony’s PlayStation Eye camera to stream to Twitch and uStream, must have a gaming focus or risk having their account suspended. Most users, including the husband and wife team behind The Spartan Show, have kept within Twitch’s terms of service, but others have decided the console provides the perfect platform to broadcast sexual content and host non-gaming shows. While Sony already offers the broadcasting service, Xbox One owners will have to wait until “early 2014” to stream their games — either way, Twitch will have quite the job on its hands as gamers test the limits of their new all-seeing consoles.

Activision Claims Crash Bandicoot Has Not Been Sold To Sony

Activision Claims Crash Bandicoot Has Not Been Sold To SonyThe other day we reported on the possibility that the Crash Bandicoot franchise was being sold back to Sony, but as it turns out that isn’t the case. This is according to a statement released by Activision whose spokesperson was quoted as saying to GameInformer, “Activision owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life.” Assuming that this is the case, and that Activision isn’t trying to throw us for a loop, why is the website still down, and why is the game still not listed on Activision’s website? Could it be that negotiations are in the process and they don’t want us to know?

Crash Bandicoot was one of the original games for the first Sony PlayStation and was rather iconic given that the game was pretty played on every demo PS1 unit out there, especially since the game was a great way to show off what the console could do. The game was originally developed as a PlayStation exclusive for Sony by Naught Dog studios before it was sold to Activision who have not made a Crash Bandicoot game in years. In any case what do you guys think? Are you bummed that the franchise had not been sold back to Sony where it might see a revival on the PS4?

PS4 Sold Out At Best Buy

PS4 Sold Out At Best Buy

Gaming console news has been constantly pouring in this month, because both Sony and Microsoft launched their new consoles over the past few weeks. Sony was the first to come out with its PlayStation 4 on November 15th. After launch day, the company announced that it had sold over one million units on launch day alone, an impressive feat considering the fact that PS4 was only launched in U.S. and Canada on the aforementioned date. The console seems to be doing well even after the initial rush, as Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly tells Reuters that the retailer has “pretty much run out” of PS4 stock.

As Sony gears up to launch the console in Europe and additional markets, it continues to see strong consumer demand in North America. This week Microsoft finally released its Xbox One console, and it too announced after launch day that it had sold over 1 million units under 24 hours, however the Xbox One was initially launched in 13 markets. Nevertheless, customers anxious to purchase the Sony PlayStation 4 from Best Buy need not worry. CEO Joly confirmed to Reuters that the retailer is going to receive new inventory next week, so that the console is very much in stock as customers flock to purchase the latest in gaming technology.

One Million Xbox One Units Sold In Under 24 Hours

One Million Xbox One Units Sold In Under 24 Hours

November has been a great month for gamers, primarily because of the fact that both Sony and Microsoft released their next generation consoles. Sony released the PlayStation 4 on November 15th and sold one million units on launch day. Microsoft released the Xbox One on November 22nd and matched Sony’s milestone. The company has announced that Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history with one million units being sold, this figure surpasses Xbox 360 sales on day one and also sets a new record for Microsoft.

Most retailers are now sold out of Xbox One stock, so if you weren’t lucky enough to get your pre-order in for a Day One edition or if you weren’t able to pick it up at a retailer, fret not. Microsoft says that it is working “as fast as possible” to get additional stock to retailers so that demand can be met. Xbox One launch titles racked up some impressive gameplay on launch day as well, with over 60 million zombies being killed in Dead Rising 3, 3.6 million miles being driven in Forza Motorsport 5 and 8.5 million enemies being defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome apart from the 7.1 million combos that gamers executed in Killer Instinct. These certainly are impressive stats, despite the fact that a number of customers have complained about Xbox One Blu-ray drive failing. Microsoft has taken notice of the reports and encourages customers to reach out if they experience a similar problem with their latest Xbox console.
