DxoMark Finds Sony Xperia Z2 To Have The Best Camera At The Moment

DxoMark Finds Sony Xperia Z2 To Have The Best Camera At The MomentWhile the Sony Xperia Z2 has been launched in countries such as Singapore, its release in North America has been delayed. In a way this is semi-good news since it allows other reviewers to get their hands on the device and run some tests to help you make a more informed decision, although if you’ve had your heart set on it, we can only imagine the wait is excruciating.

That being said, the Sony Xperia Z2’s camera is no slouch as we found out during our hands-on preview of the device. In fact according to DxOMark, they have found that in terms of smartphone cameras, the Sony Xperia Z2 takes the cake and even manages to beat out the Nokia 808 PureView, a device which has been regarded by many to have a pretty damn good camera, so that’s saying something.

According to their findings, it seems that the Xperia Z2 is currently the best smartphone camera to date and is sitting at the top above the 808 PureView, the Xperia Z1, the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S4, and even the Lumia 1020, all of which have proven to sport pretty good cameras which is a testament to the Xperia Z2’s camera capabilities.

However not everything is perfect as DxOMark did find a couple of imperfections. For example they claim that the white balance on the photos was not perfect, neither was its color shading, and there were even some flaring issues in some photos, but we guess these issues did not impact the overall score too much. Also unless you’re a professional photographer, chances are these are some issues that you might have missed out on unless you were looking for it specifically.

Sony Xperia Z2 Users Complaining Of Gap In Casing And Overheating

Sony Xperia Z2 Users Complaining Of Gap In Casing And OverheatingThe goal of water-resistant devices is to seal the device up completely to prevent water from seeping into any holes, gaps, or ports that could damage the internals. While Sony is advertising the Xperia Z2 to have water-resistant capabilities, it seems that due to manufacturing defects, perhaps the Xperia Z2 might not be as water-resistant as it could be.

According to a report from Singapore, Xperia Z2 owners have discovered that there is a gap at the top right hand corner of their device (pictured above). It might not be noticeable in darker colors of the phone, but on the white model it is pretty obvious. These customers have since voiced concerns that this could allow water to seep in and damage the phone’s internal components. (more…)

Sony Xperia Z2 Delays Ramp Up

Sony Xperia Z2 Delays Ramp Up

At Mobile World Congress in February Sony unveiled its latest flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2. The smartphone is destined to take on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8, but it appears that delays may keep it from taking on the rivals. HTC’s flagship is already available, Samsung’s releasing next week. Initially the Z2 was expected in April, but this was then delayed until early May. Customers in Hong Kong will have to wait until June, the company says through its official Facebook page.

Recently it was also reported that Sony Xperia Z2 launch across the pond in the UK might not happen until the end of May, several retailers say this time frame has been given to them by the company itself. Z2′s North American debut is slated for next month, its launch in the U.S. might not happen until the second quarter of this year. Sony Xperia Z2 is rumored to be a Verizon exclusive in the U.S.

While Sony Hong Kong doesn’t give any reason for the delay, reports from the supply chain suggest that due to component shortages, Sony is facing production issues with the Xperia Z2. Until those bottlenecks are resolved, the company will continue to have a tough time in producing enough units so as to fulfill demand.

Sony Windows Phone Device Expected This July

Sony Windows Phone Device Expected This July

Recently a handful of OEMs, even some from emerging markets, committed to Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform. Most of them are expected to deliver WP powered handsets later this year. There have been countless rumors about Sony throwing its hat in the ring as well. Apparently the Japanese company is mulling a Windows Phone handset, possibly even multiple handsets. A latest rumor suggest that these handsets might be released come July.

Sony Mobile Europe head, Pierre Perron, has also confirmed that Sony is continuing discussions with its partners, which includes Microsoft. While he didn’t say anything specific about Sony’s WP handset plans or if and when such devices will hit the market, Perron comments tie in perfectly with recent rumors about Sony considering Windows Phone. Previously Sony Ericsson had a long relationship with Microsoft, several handsets powered by Windows Mobile were released.

If speculation is true, Sony has already started a test run of its Windows Phone handset batch. Expected to be released this July, rumor has it that this may be the very first device to come with the new Windows Phone GDR update installed straight out of the box. No word as yet on the possible specifications, we’ll have to wait for a bit before rumors about it come in.

Sony A7s Is Official: High ISO Range, 4K Video Capture

According to a rumor we heard last week, it was suggested that the Sony A7s could be launched over the weekend. It turns out that the rumor is true as Sony has since officially announced the device where it will be joining its other A7x siblings, the Sony A7 and the A7r, both of which were announced back in October of 2013.

So, what’s new about the Sony A7s? Well according to Sony, the Sony A7s is the company’s latest full-frame camera which sports a 12.2MP sensor. Interestingly it seems that Sony isn’t playing the megapixels game and has kept it as a somewhat sensible 12.2MP, rather than opting for something larger.

For those who actually do need the extra megapixels to print out large photos, then we guess this isn’t the camera for you, but for casual photographers or enthusiasts, we reckon 12.2MP is more than enough to get by. The Sony A7s will even feature an extended ISO of as much as 409,600, meaning that low-light photography shouldn’t be an issue, although we have to wonder about the noise in photos at those levels.

Other features includes the ability to record videos at 4K resolution, a feature which was not present on either the A7 or the A7r. The A7s will also play nicely with Sony’s range of A-mount lenses so if you’ve been collecting Sony lenses, then they should fit on the Sony A7s and save you the time and money from having to go look for new ones.

Unfortunately has not announced when or how much the Sony A7s will cost but given that the Sony A7 and A7r are priced between $2,000-$2,300 for the body-only models, we can only assume that the A7s will be around that price range as well, hopefully.

Sony A7s Rumored For Launch This Sunday

Sony A7s Rumored For Launch This SundayJust last year, Sony unveiled two new cameras in the form of the Sony A7 and A7r, and now according to the rumors, it looks like Sony could be adding another camera to that range in the form of the Sony A7s.

This is according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors who claims that their source has tipped them off regarding the camera’s existence and that it will actually be unveiled at an event this Sunday at Las Vegas at 2PM, so if Sony cameras are your thing, perhaps this is an event worth checking out.

The full specifications of the Sony A7s have yet to be confirmed but so far what we do know about the camera is that it will pack a new 12MP full-frame sensor. This seems to go against the market which promotes more megapixels, although we reckon that 12MP will do just fine, unless you really need to print your photos in really high resolution.

The camera is also rumored to be able to shoot in 4K resolution for videos so if you’re a proponent of 4K video, then perhaps this camera might be of interest to you. No word on availability or pricing just yet, but given the prices of the Sony A7 and A7r, we’re guessing it should be somewhere around those prices as well, either way check back with us then for the details.
