Sony 4ThePlayers video gets nostalgic ahead of PlayStation 4 launch

Sony says that earlier this year when the hastag #PlayStationMemories was trending it read a bunch of the tweets and messages that went along with the hastag. The electronics giant wanted to make a film that it feels represents what the PlayStation has meant to gamers since it debuted in 1995. Sony thinks that everyone […]

Sony Admits PS4 Price In Brazil Is Not Good For Gamers

Sony Admits PS4 Price In Brazil Is Not Good For GamersThe other day we reported that due to taxes and other various costs, Sony’s PlayStation 4 would end up costing Brazilian gamers R$3,999, which when converted is about $1,850, an eye-watering amount that would have netted gamers in the US about 4 PlayStation 4 console units already. Naturally many were outraged, despite not being Brazilians themselves, as the idea of forking out close to $2,000 for a console is a little ridiculous, and some have accused Sony of being greedy. Interestingly enough Sony has since released a statement about the price of the PS4 in Brazil, and it sounds like they’re not too happy about having to charge that much either.

According to the statement, “We want to emphasise that it isn’t in the interest of Sony Computer Entertainment America to sell PS4 units at this high retail price, as it’s not good for our gamers and it’s not good for the PlayStation brand.” They go on to offer a breakdown of the price at Valor Economico (it’s written in Portuguese) and state that they are working with government agencies at bringing down the price, as well as the possibility of manufacturing the console locally as they did with the PlayStation 3 which would undoubtedly help reduce their costs drastically. However until then, we guess gamers in Brazil will just have to contend with the outrageous price tag.

PS4′s Controller Went Through More Than 20 Prototypes

PS4s Controller Went Through More Than 20 PrototypesGiven that gamers have spent almost a decade with the PlayStation 3 controller, changing it up drastically does not seem wise as it could throw off a lot of gamers, but at the same time innovations had to be made which is why it is not surprising that Sony went through multiple prototypes before deciding on the final form factor of the DualShock 4 controller for their upcoming PlayStation 4 console. The various iterations were revealed during an interview Toshimasa Aoki, Sony’s manager of product planning, had with the folks at Venture Beat. (more…)

Sony increases PS4 hard drive size to 12.5mm for 1.5 TB capacity

German tinkerer website Computer Bild has discovered that the PS4 will use a 12.5mm hard drive dock rather than the 9.5mm spec used in the PS3. This means the PS4 hard drive can be replaced with a 1.5TB SATA hard drive, with even more capacity in the future as developers improve storage densities. This and […]

Target Cancels PS4 Pre Orders Bundled With Delayed Launch Titles

The Sony Xperia Z1S Might Be a Mini Z1 For Everyone Else

The Sony Xperia Z1S Might Be a Mini Z1 For Everyone Else

Remember the impressive-looking Xperia Z1F handset, shrinking down the flagship Sony Xperia Z1 to a more pocketable size? Some bad news; it’s pencilled in only for Asian markets. The good news? Looks like we’re getting the Xperia Z1S instead, which is basically the same phone, with a different name.

    Sony Xperia Z1S Leaked

Sony Xperia Z1S LeakedThe folks over at @evleaks has done it again, leaking out what seems to be a photo of the Sony Xperia Z1S, which is said to be due for an announcement later this year. Other than the photo which was unveiled, no additional details concerning the device were provided, so it remains to be seen just what kind of smartphone will the Sony Xperia Z1S be. Something deep down in my gut tells me that this will be the kind that is waterproof as well as dustproof in order to keep up with the rest of its predecessors, or at least those that are in the Xperia Z family.

It must be noted that the Sony Xperia Z1S went on sale not too long ago, so it would not be that likely for Sony to introduce a spanking new flagship device before the year is over. Hence, it would not be too far off the mark either for the Sony Xperia Z1S to end up as some sort of international version of the Sony Xperia Z1 mini, which has already arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun as the Sony Xperia Z1 f. Which hat do you think the Xperia Z1S will wear when it is introduced?

Driveclub PS4 Release Delay Officially Confirmed

Driveclub PS4 Release Delay Officially Confirmed

It was rumored a couple of days ago that Driveclub PS4 release is going to be delayed. This particular game has been tapped as a PS4 launch title, so there’s no doubt in the fact that many PS4 customers would have been waiting for it to drop come launch day. It was previously reported by two different sources that the release is going to be delayed, that Driveclub is possibly going to be pushed into 2014. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what has happened. Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios has confirmed in a blogpost that Driveclub PS4 release has now been delayed to early 2014.

This news comes nearly a week after it was confirmed that Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs has been delayed to spring 2014. Driveclub was to launch alongside the PlayStation 4 on November 15th, Sony said that this title would be the inaugural free title provided to PlayStation Plus subscribers through the Instant Game Collection program. Yoshida acknowledges that this delay is “disappointing news,” but assures gamers that when Driveclub launches next year, it will truly be the “next-gen racing vision.” He says that the extra time being taken means that the experience and visuals are going to be improved, he assures that “it will be worth the wait.”

Sony Reportedly Working On Wireless Charger That Can Fully Charge Your Phone In An Hour

Sony Reportedly Working On Wireless Charger That Can Fully Charge Your Phone In An HourCharging your smartphone or tablet is something that is the norm, and while wireless charging does away with the need for cables, the fact that it requires close proximity and that it takes just as long as wired charging, if not longer, has relegated the feature to something of a novelty status, but what if wireless charging had the ability to full charge your smartphone in just an hour? Well according to report from Nikkei, that’s exactly what Sony’s been working on. The report stated that Sony is working on a wireless charging system that is able to use twice the rate of electricity supplied by current chargers, and because of that, smartphone users should be able to fully charge their devices in just an hour.

This information comes from specifications finalized by the Wireless Power Consortium which hints at the charger being a wireless one as well. Of course we expect there are some concerns, such as if it is able to charge so fast, won’t it get extremely hot and potentially explode? While that would normally be the case, Rohm has developed control chips which would then be integrated into the charger and smartphone which is expected to keep heat generation down to acceptable levels. Assuming all of this is true and it works out, it is expected that this technology will make its way into Sony devices come 2014.
