TICKR announced by Wahoo Fitness

wahoo-tickrWahoo Fitness is notable for being the first company to deliver heart rate monitoring to smartphones thanks to the Blue HR, and this time around, they might have outdone themselves yet again through a new range of heart rate monitors – namely the TICKR, TICKR Run and TICKR X. This particular TICKR range of heart rate monitors will be able to merge critical heart rate data alongside motion analytics, so that it is capable of measuring both your workout intensity in addition to workout motion. Using Wahoo’s motion based algorithms, it is capable of keeping track of an athlete’s movement, ranging from repetitions to acceleration to running mechanics, all the while offering feedback on improving form. Not only that, each TICKR dual band heart rate monitor will also boast of ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart ultra-low power wireless technologies. In a nutshell, TICKR is more or less future proof, where it will play nice with a slew of devices that range from smartphones to GPS watches, virtually making this the last heart rate strap you will ever need – at least, until it gives up the ghost.

Those who are interested in the TICKR, TICKR Run and TICKR X will be able to pick it up before the first half of this year is over, but unfortunately, no concrete release date has been detailed just yet. The TICKR line itself will start from a highly affordable $60, where should you opt for a more robust model, those could eventually surpass the $100 asking price.

The TICKR will measure your heart rate only, where it sports a dual band heart rate with ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capability. As for the TICKR Run, it will feature a treadmill mode which tracks speed and distance while on a treadmill, in addition to the Wahoo Running Smoothness capability which tracks one’s running form and efficiency. Last but not least, there is the TICKR X that can be used with any sport, memory, or post workout synchronization. Relying on motion analytics to measure a variety of motion from repetitions to swim laps to cross-training to cycling, you can workout right there and then before synchronizing the entire shebang later on.

Babolat Play Pure Drive Will Help Improve Your Tennis Game

_72470529_72470116The other day we reported that Sony would be making their tennis sensor a reality. For those who are hearing about this for the first time, the Sony tennis sensor was a prototype device shown off during CES 2014 where a sensor is embedded into the base of the tennis racket. From there it will be able to gather data such as ball speed, accuracy, angle, and so on. Well it looks like Sony might have competition because a new sensor has already hit the market in the form of the Babolat Play Pure Drive. (more…)

Sacramento Kings Will Use Google Glass To Stream Their Games

Google Glass has seen many uses but it seems that the device will now be used by the Sacramento Kings to broadcast its games live to viewers around the world. As it stands the Sacramento Kings are also the first team to accept Bitcoin as a method of payment, and it looks like they have no problems embracing technology as they have also announced that Google Glass will be incorporated into its games as well. Unfortunately this does not mean we will be getting a first-person view from a player’s perspective, but rather from the court side seats, so for those who can’t afford court side seats and want to feel what it might be like, tuning in to their stream is one way to experience that.

According to their media release, “The technology will allow fans at the game, and viewing at home, to witness the courtside experience through the eyes of Slamson, Kings dancers, sideline reporters and others closest to the action live as they stream their first-person views through Google Glass. The Glass broadcasts are the latest new technology feature the Kings are testing to improve the in-arena experience for fans.” We guess it would be a lot cooler if we could get the player’s perspective, although it will most likely end up being a hindrance to their play style, but hopefully one day the design of Glass, or maybe something from a competitor, will allow us to do just that.

TAO would allow you to exercise just about anywhere, whether you are at your desk, on the airplane, while you are checking out the latest movies at the cinema, or basically babysitting to earn a little bit of income on the side. The patented TAO system would comprise of a handheld device, where it is known as the TAO WellShell, where it will be accompanied by a comprehensive app for Android and iOS devices. The TAO approach to fitness and wellness will focus on simplicity, balance, and harmony.

Isometrics happens to be the science of applying pressure, where it has been in practice for thousands of years so that it can improve muscle strength, tone and circulation. TAO takes things to the next level by introducing a dynamic element, allowing you to vary the pressure by coaching you through your workout, where it will be able to electronically capture the results. In fact, TAO-Wellness has coined the scientific term for this type of exercise as “variobics.”

TAO has over 50 isometric exercises for you to choose from, and each of these are clearly explained in the phone app. All you need to do is hold the TAO WellShell in your hands (it can be against your thighs, between your knees, etc), and press it or push hard against it. Sony To Make Tennis Sensor A Reality, Will Launch In May

Sony To Make Tennis Sensor A Reality, Will Launch In MayEarlier this month, Sony unveiled the tennis sensor at CES 2014. At the time of unveiling, Sony stated that the device was merely a prototype as opposed to an actual product that consumers could go out and purchase for themselves. Well the good news is that it looks like the response must have been good enough where Sony has decided to actually turn the tennis sensor into reality. Dubbed the Smart Tennis Sensor, unfortunately it seems that the device will only be available in Japan and will see a release this May and will be priced at around $175.

For those hearing about this for the first time, the sensor is basically a little gadget that is attachable to the base of a tennis racket. By attaching it to be the base, the sensor will be able to pick up a variety of information from the player, such as the speed at which the ball is hit, how hard it is being hit, and where on the racket it is being hit, all of which should help the player learn from their mistakes. According to Sony who announced the sensor’s availability in Japan, the sensor will be compatible with around six Yonex EZone and VCore tennis rackets, but additional racket compatibility will be added after launch.

Pretty cool stuff and with the Australia Open currently underway, we’re sure there are many players, both pro and aspiring, who might be feeling particularly motivated to up their game!
