Having previously refused to appear on streaming services, rock legends Led Zeppelin are rumoured to be making their catalog exclusively available for streaming through Spotify later today.
Spotify is probably one of the more popular music streaming services at the moment, and given that they have paid out $1 billion in royalties to date, that would certainly seem to be the case. Well the good news for mobile users is that if you wanted to enjoy Spotify on your phone for free, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a free version of Spotify will soon be headed onto mobile devices. At the moment Spotify can be streamed for free on desktop computers, with the catch being that there will be ads in between songs. For mobile users, there is a streaming option too although they will require to pay a monthly subscription fee of $9.99.
Assuming this is true, the WSJ reports that the mobile version of Spotify is expected to provide a more personalized experience, sort of like Pandora or iTunes Radio which will try to find songs that you might like. We can only assume that this also means that the free version will come with ads, and that there could be some form of limitation, such as the number of times you can skip a song and so on. The report also claims that Spotify has managed to secure deals with the major record labels like Sony, Universal and Warner, and it could be announced as soon as next week.

Spotify will launch a free mobile streaming version of its music service, it’s reported, having persuaded music labels to agree to ad-supported deals. The new service will debut alongside the existing paid mobile music service, which offers advertising-free on-demand access to the company’s catalog from smartphones, tablets, and other platforms, the WSJ reports, though free […]

Sprint and Google Voice Integration Not Very Smooth
I don’t even have a Sprint account but I was still pretty excited when I saw that the Google Voice integration with the carrier was live. I was thinking that this may mean other carriers would follow down the same path, but it looks like there are some major kinks that would have to be worked out first. I’ll just stick to using Google Voice on my phone without any direct carrier integration.

There’s a lot of news floating around that LastPass has been hacked, but really all LastPass is trying to do is take precautions for a network traffic anomaly that they haven’t been able to explain. In an interview their CEO said that if accounts were compromised it would “be on the orders of tens of users out of millions that could be in that scenario.“

Yesterday we posted a playlist of the most streamed songs
Have you heard about Spotify before? Well, approximately two and a half years ago, Spotify has landed on the US with much fanfare, and here we are with additional news about this unique service. In fact, Spotify has announced that they have already paid out over $1 billion in royalties ever since it was launched, and its most recent efforts in engaging even more people would be the introduction of a website which intends to explain just how does it work so that other artists and music professionals will be able to get a better idea.
This new website has the intention to make sure that its business model ends up as more transparent, which is a surefire way to win some brownie points among the masses. As for the issuing of $1 billion in royalties since its inception in 2009, that is certainly a mind blowing figure. After all, at the corresponding point of time in 2012, Spotify only had a total royalty payout of $500 million, which meant that in this year alone, Spotify has already forked out $500 million in royalties, now how about that? Do you think that Spotify is here to stay for the long term, or will it eventually be overtaken by something newer and better?
