Sprint Removes Mention Of Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update For The Nexus 5

Sprint Removes Mention Of Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update For The Nexus 5There have been rumors suggesting that Google had been dogfooding the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update and according to an earlier report, it was suggested that Sprint could be pushing out the update to the Nexus 5, or at least that was what was implied a few days ago. Unfortunately not only has the update not been pushed out to the Nexus 5, but all mention of it has been removed from Sprint’s website as well.

It has recently been discovered that any mention of the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, also known as the KTU84F, on Sprint’s support page has been removed. According to the schedule, it was pegged for a release on the 14th of April which was something to look forward to, especially if there were bug fixes in the update that Nexus 5 owners needed. Not to mention the update would open up two new Spark LTE bands.

However oddly enough the listing tas been removed and we’re not sure why. Perhaps there are bugs in the update that need to be fixed first and was caught before it was rolled out, which was guess is a good thing since buggy handsets don’t really help with consumer confidence. It could also be that perhaps the dates might be wrong, which is why Sprint removed the listing to prevent further confusion.

Either way it’s not there and we now have no idea when the update will be arriving, if at all. We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more information but hopefully Sprint’s Nexus 5 owners won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the update.

Sprint And Spotify Reportedly Joining Forces

Reports and surveys indicate that the popularity of music streaming services is on the rise, particularly in the U.S., where digital music downloads have dipped considerably over the past year. Since this is proving to be such a lucrative market, it makes sense that companies already competing in it would want to do much better. According to a new report Spotify and Sprint may soon join sources. The music streaming service will get access to millions of potential new users, while Sprint subscribers will get free trials and discounts.

Sprint’s HTC One M8 Apparently Comes With Harman/Kardon Speakers

Sprints HTC One M8 Apparently Comes With Harman/Kardon SpeakersA couple of years ago, HTC and Beats Audio announced a deal in which Beats Audio’s technology would see an integration into certain HTC devices, giving them an advantage over the competition, at least in terms of sound. However HTC later sold back their stake in Beats Audio to the company which has us wondering if HTC could be looking for a similar partnership in the future with a different company?

Well it turns out that they have and that company is none other than Harman/Kardon. According to @evleaks, he has revealed that Sprint will soon be getting a HTC One Harman/Kardon edition, although at this point in time we’re not sure when the device will be released, neither are we sure if he’s talking about the HTC One from 2013, or the HTC One M8 which was recently released.

However it seems that it’s more than likely that he’s referring to the HTC One M8, thanks to a recent post in the XDA forums in which the Harman/Kardon audio settings can be found in the phone’s settings, although perhaps it has not been activated yet as Sprint is still waiting on the deal to close.

Apparently Sprint’s version of the HTC One M8 will come with Harman/Kardon speakers, as opposed to other models on other carriers which would sport normal speakers, so rest easy if you bought the handset on Sprint because you won’t have to rebuy it. We’re not sure what the difference in audio quality would be yet since it hasn’t been officially announced, but you can bet that we are definitely excited. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.

Samsung Galaxy S4 With Sprint Spark Gets Wi-Fi Calling

Samsung Galaxy S4 With Sprint Spark Gets Wi Fi CallingIf you happen to have picked up a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Sprint Spark, here is news for you that might just help you sit up and take notice. It seems that the Galaxy S4 with Sprint Spark would make it the fourth Wi-Fi Calling enabled smartphone from Sprint, and this is made possible via an over-the-air update that had started to roll out earlier today. This particular update notification will be pushed to all of Sprint’s customers automatically throughout the coming few weeks, so if you have yet to receive yours, fret not, and play the patience card.

For those who are not in the know, Wi-Fi Calling happens to be a free service which will allow you to use voice and messaging services over current home, office and public Wi-Fi networks. Thanks to the implementation of Wi-Fi Calling, one will be able to experience improved voice, data and messaging services in locations that did not have any mobile network coverage before, or extremely limited coverage ala dead zones.

If you are an existing customer with the said handset, you ought to be able to enjoy enhanced coverage when it comes to in-building coverage or areas with challenging network conditions, while setting up the entire shebang is a snap since everything would be seamless and happens in the background. Best of all, experience unlimited voice calling and messaging on Wi-Fi, but do bear in mind that standard CDMA international rates apply for international calls. [Press Release]

Kyocera Verve Announced, Headed For Sprint And Boost Mobile

Kyocera Verve Announced, Headed For Sprint And Boost MobileKyocera has just announced the Verve handset that will go on sale from both Sprint and Boost Mobile. The Kyocera Verve happens to be a feature phone that will come with a traditional number pad on the front, and sports the ability to slide sideways in order to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard right under it – making it a throwback to an older era where slider phones were all the rage. Do not expect anything groundbreaking – this is a feature phone after all.

As for the hardware that can be found on the Kyocera Verve, you would have to learn how to cozy up to a 2.4” display, a 2MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a speakerphone, and a stereo headset jack. Wait a minute here, let me check my calendar and see whether Kyocera was stuck in a time bubble somewhere and still thought that this is 2005 or something.

Sprint claims that the Kyocera Verve has an operating system that is ideal for heavy texters, where it will be limited to CDMA 1X-Advanced and will not support LTE connectivity. Sprint is currently offering the Kyocera Verve for free, although you will have to fork out $5.42 each month for two years. I guess the Kyocera Verve will target those who think that they have no need whatsoever to jump aboard the smartphone bandwagon and want something that simply works. [Press Release]

Sprint’s New Framily Plan Goes Official

Sprints New Framily Plan Goes OfficialAccording to a leaked photo the other day, it was revealed that Sprint could be close to announcing a new promotion that would mimic T-Mobile’s Uncarrier program where the carrier would pay off your early termination fee (ETF) with another carrier so that you will be able to sign up with them.

Now according to a recent press release by Sprint, it looks like that plan is now official. The details of the plan is pretty much similar to what we have seen in the leaked photo. Basically Sprint will allow you to trade-in your current device and get as much as $300 credit towards it, although we’re guessing this will vary depending on how old and what condition your phone is in.

Sprint will also be providing customers with a $350 Visa prepaid card that will cover your ETF with another carrier, or alternatively you could use it towards installment balance reimbursement. However the plan does require the customer to be in good standing and will have to wait anywhere between 10-12 weeks before they are able to receive the payment via the Visa prepaid card, so that’s something to take note of.

In any case if this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can find out more by heading on over to Sprint’s website, although we should note that this offer is only valid from the 4th of April until the 8th of May, so if you were thinking about switching carriers or getting a new phone, you might want to hurry.
