PSA: Acer Iconia W3 up for pre-order at Office Depot, Staples starting at $350

PSA Acer Iconia W3 up for preorder at Office Depot, Staples starting at $350

It’s always refreshing when a product catches us by surprise, but thanks to several leaks, the Acer Iconia W3 definitely didn’t fall into that category. So, when it was unveiled at Computex 2013, we were ready for it in all its 8.1-inch 1,280 x 800, dual-core Intel Atom, Windows Pro 8 glory. The wee slate also ushered in Microsoft’s temporary offer of Office for free on 10-inch or smaller Windows Pro tablets, and you can now pre-order the 32GB version at Staples for $380 or $350 from Office Depot, while a 64GB version from Amazon will run you $430. An optional keyboard should arrive soon for $90, so if you’ve been coveting a small form-factor Windows tab — RT-free — hit the source.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Now Available At Staples

Samsung Galaxy S4 Now Available At Staples

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been available in the U.S. on a few wireless carriers, but let’s say you would rather not enter one of their retail locations and would prefer to pick up your phone while you’re picking up office supplies at Staples in an attempt to save as much time as possible in your busy schedule. Up until now, all you would be greeted with when asking to buy a Galaxy S4 was a bunch of dirty looks and probably a laugh or two, but starting today, you can return to that Staples location and laugh in their face as you walk away with a Galaxy S4.

Staples now offers the Samsung Galaxy S4 across 500 of its retail store locations as well as its online store for only $199.99 when you sign for a two-year contract. The $199.99 is the asking price across all supported carriers, which means you’ll save $50 on your Galaxy S4 if you’re a Sprint subscriber.

3D Printers Now Available via Staples: Print Me an Easy Button!

3D printing is a fantastic way to rapidly prototype something that you’re trying to design or develop for business or personal use. The problem is that 3D printers can be pretty expensive, and you can’t just walk into most retailers and buy one. That is all about to change with office supply retailer Staples announcing that it now has 3D printers available directly from its website. The company says that some Staples locations will also have 3D printers in their store by the end of June.

The printers that are available at Staples come from a company called 3D Systems. The printers are Cubify’s Cube 3D Printers and are available for $1299.99(USD).

The printers are ready to work right out of the box and support Wi-Fi for wireless printing. The printers will work on Windows or Mac computers and come with 25 free 3-D templates designed by professional artists. Additional templates are available online and designers can create their own templates to print from the printer. The Cube printer is able to print items up to 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.5″ and has cartridges available with 16 different colors. Staples is selling these ABS and PLA plastic cartridge refills for $49.99 each.

Staples becomes first US retailer to sell 3D printers

While 3D printers having been for sale for quite a while now, it seems they’re gaining enough popularity to begin selling in major retail stores. Office supplies retail chain Staples has announced that they will begin selling the Cube 3D Printer at its stores, becoming the first major US retail store to sell 3D printers.

cube

The Cube is available now on Staples.com, and will eventually be available in a select number of Staples store by the end of June. The Cube costs $1,300, which is quite a bit less than MakerBot’s offerings, which usually start at around $2,000. The printer is able to print objects that are up to 5.5-inches wide and tall.

The Cube features WiFi and is compatible with both Mac and Windows. Plus, the printer comes with 25 free 3D templates to get you off to a quick start, with more templates available online. Staples is also selling ABS and PLA plastic cartridge refills, CubeSticks, and replacement Cube Print Pads. We heard late last year that Staples would be starting its own 3D-printing service, so perhaps this is the first baby step into that realm.

The 3D-printing community hasn’t gone quite mainstream yet, as it’s still very much a niche hobby at this point, but with the beginning of selling 3D printers in major retail chains, the awareness for 3D printing may go up, encouraging more people to get into the hobby and create an even larger community around it.

Staples Is Now Selling 3D Printers

Screen Shot 2013-05-03 at 9.42.55 AM

Do you guys have any Green Day? Really? Yeah, like the early Knitting Factory stuff. Not this Dookie garbage. Yeah, I liked them before they sold out. What about Neutral Milk Hotel? Is the new album any good? Yeah, I know, dude. What’s the Avery Island junk? Serious bummer after Aeroplane.

What else you got? Staples is selling Cube 3D Printers for $1,299? Seriously? That is total bull. I remember when I used to see 3D printers in like hackerspaces down in Alphabet City and now they sold out like that? Damn. People do anything for money.

I mean that’s totally stupid. Real fans are all totally into 3D printing but when you get it all corporate you lose so much cred, you know? Like how the Pixies sold out and like imploded. I know. Makerbot would never sell their stuff at Best Buy. Who’s going to buy one? Some stockbroker jerk in a suit? Those dudes are legit punk.

But man, I’m telling you: 3D printing is totally over. I saw the first Shapeways stuff come off the line back in 2007 when they played the Netherlands and I was totally there when the guys at Form Labs launched the Form:One on stage at CBGB. For these guys to totally sell out is absolute garbage. Man, what’s next? Is Oasis going to write a song about PLA? Is Staples going to sell 3D printers next to those big jugs of pretzels? So dumb.

Whatever. Put on “Dry the Rain.” Maybe we can move some of these CDs out of here to make room for our corporate shill BS 3D printer. Jeeze.

Staples Document Leak Possible Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch Dates

Staples Document Leak Possible Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch DatesThere is nothing quite like a leak to make things happen and send the Internet abuzz with gossip, and it seems that a leaked document from Staples have revealed potential launch dates of the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone for carriers AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Right now, it is more or less confirmed that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be heading towards the likes of AT&T, Cricket, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon, although no exact dates have been revealed.

The leaked Staples document do provide a far more specific clue, although it remains to be seen whether the leaked document is accurate or not. So far, the dates shown were cautioned to be tentative in nature, so nothing has been confirmed in concrete just yet. AT&T will most probably receive the Galaxy S4 later this April 26, while T-Mobile is tipped to follow on May 1, with Verizon in all probability rolling out a Galaxy S4 that they can call their own this May 30.

Galaxy S 4 availability hinted at in Staples document, pegged for April 26th on AT&T

Galaxy S4 availability hinted at in Staples training document, AT&T pegged for tentative 426 launch

Scrambling to find a launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S 4? Staples may have just dropped a hint. According to a leaked store training sheet, AT&T will be offering the next Galaxy phone on April 26th, followed by T-Mobile on May 1st and Verizon on the 30th. Bold lettering warns these dates are tentative but they are familiar, matching both the UK launch date and T-Mobile’s own declarations. Naturally, we try to take these things with a grain of salt, though it’s worth noting that the document asks stores to prepare GS 4 reservation signage on 4/15, one day before official pre-orders begin. It isn’t an iron-clad case for the phone’s launch by any means, but for the eager Galaxy fan, tentative is better than nothing. Skip on past the break for a peek at the full page.

Staples to begin carrying Apple devices

It looks like Apple and Staples has come to an agreement that will allow Staple to sell Apple’s products through its U.S. retail stores. The first confirmation came from Regis Mulot, Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources at Staples, who sent out a tweet saying, “After Canada, #Apple products arecoming to #Staples in US. Great news!”. We assume that Regis Mulot was a little too trigger happy with his tweet because it was deleted soon after. Fortunately for us, many other executives has confirmed the agreement as well.

Staples to begin carrying Apple devices

To Apple, this is probably just another day of meetings and agreements. But to Staples, this is a huge win, and it’s apparent due to the excitement from its executives. Erin LaFlamme, Strategic Accounts Coordinator for Staples, tweeted, “Thanks #Apple for letting #Staples sell you…oh, and for the delicious apple products to celebrate at… ”. Mike Goggin, Field Services Manager for Staples, tweeted, “Staples just finalized a deal to begin selling Apple products #finally”.

This agreement has been long overdue in the U.S., especially considering that Canada’s Staples stores have been carrying Apple products for quite a while now. The availability of Apple products in Staples’s U.S. retail stores should increase the convenience of purchasing an Apple device for many consumers. Not everyone has an Apple store nearby, so Apple enters into agreements with retailers to get their products into the hands of as many consumers as possible.

None of the tweets about the Apple/Staples agreement said anything about when Apple’s products will be available at Staples, but it shouldn’t be too long from now. There also wasn’t any confirmation on what Apple products would be for sale at Staples, but if it’s anything like the Staples in Canada, you should expect to see Apple’s whole selection of products, including iPods, iPads, Macbooks, and Apple TVs.

Microsoft starts shipping Surface Pro again, says more coming to market ‘quickly’

Microsoft starts shipping

Microsoft’s trying to address the recent shortfall of Surface Pro models, and has vowed via its Surface Pro blog to get more into the market “as quickly as we can.” As such, it’s begun dispatching 64GB SKUs to Best Buy, Staples and its own Microsoft Store in the US, with Canada to follow in a few days. 128GB SKUs will ship “later this week” to retailers, according to Redmond, “with some units available by the end of the week.” All flavors of the tablet-cum-laptop disappeared from shelves shortly after they arrived in retail stores and online, both stateside and north of the border. The company said it’ll fulfill orders for customers who made a reservation first, but that your local retailer “should have (stock) soon,” too.
