Star Wars Christmas Cards: Happy Hothidays

Christmas is here and if you think you might need to send out Christmas cards this year, and you happen to be a geek get your credit card ready. Artist P.J. McQuade is selling some very cool Christmas cards over on Etsy. These cards feature some of the most popular and famous scenes from the Star Wars films, updated for the holidays.

The cards show representations of famous Star Wars characters in holiday guise. I particularly like Chewie with the reindeer horns on his head. I also like the slave Leia card and the Yoda card. Really, I like them all.

There is even a card with Mos Eisley celebrating Christmas and the Jabba the Hutt decked out in his Santa hat.

These cards can be purchased for $5 each and in packages with multiple cards of one type or mixed sets with all different cards. These will certainly be the coolest cards anyone you know gets for Christmas.

Han Solo’s DL-44 Blaster for Sale: Your Chance to Shoot First

Now is your chance to own Han Solo’s actual DL-44 blaster from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This classic weapon is currently up for auction on invaluable.com with a starting bid of $200,000(USD). Sadly, it is a non-firing blaster. You’ll have to provide your own special effects.

This blaster was used in the majority of scenes that feature Han, unlike the heavier version that was used for close-up shots. You would have seen this weapon in scenes like when Darth Vader uses the Force to whip the blaster out of Han’s hand in Empire, and in Jedi when Han wrestles with a Stormtrooper to regain his blaster on Endor.

There are no bids yet, so be like Han and bid first.  It is an awesome weapon from a more uncivilized age. Even beat up, this blaster design is amazing looking and an awesome piece of movie-making history.

Han Solo’s blaster expected to fetch $200k at auction

Fans of the original Star Wars trilogy know that Han shot first. What you might not know is that the original prop blaster used by Harrison Ford when filming some of the Star Wars movies is headed to auction. The blaster below was used by Ford in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the […]

Star Wars Starts An Instagram Account, Posts A Darth Vader Selfie

Star Wars Starts An Instagram Account, Posts A Darth Vader SelfieAs we’re sure everyone is aware, Star Wars is not real, despite efforts to build a real-life Death Star. The franchise while beloved by many is unfortunately that of some pretty damn good science fiction, but possibly in a bid to keep the franchise relevant, a Star Wars Instagram account has been launched where the first photo posted was that of Darth Vader himself taking a selfie which seems to be the rage these days. Good to know that even a busy man like Darth Vader is keeping up with the times! Additional photos have since been posted and they are from older Star Wars movies, such as concepts from A New Hope, and a scene where Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader fight each other.

It is unclear as to what the purpose of this Star Wars Instagram account is for, but then again companies have been known to sign up for Instagram accounts to post photos of products, so we guess this isn’t all too surprising. Given that the next Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode VII, is due in the next two years, we guess the Instagram account will also do a good job of keeping fans updated with the latest news and photos from the movie set (hopefully). In any case if you’re a fan of Star Wars, this is an Instagram feed you might want to start following!

Saberforge Double-Bladed Staff: As Popularized by Arthday Aulmay

We’ve already seen Etsy seller Philip Isherwood’s Saberforge Battle Sabers, a series of very original prop weapons. While I’m still researching how he came up with his utterly unique designs, Philip already upped the ante. He’s now making Saberforge Staffs, which have not one but two blades. This changes everything. This guy is a genius. A genius I say!

Philip is well aware that his props are used by people who like to play both heroes and villains, so he again fired up his innovation engine and came up with two distinct designs. The Decimator Staff, shown above, looks unmistakably evil, while the Grand Master Staff, shown below, is for those who (pretend to) fight for good. Philip’s imagination truly knows no bounds.

Seriously though, these seem like durable and beautiful props. Not only do they have aircraft-grade aluminum handles, they also have force- and motion-sensitive sound effects, meaning they play appropriate audio effects when swung and when their blades clash. Speaking of clashing, the staff’s coupler can be removed if you want to dual wield or share a saber with a friend. Each staff comes with two sets of blades, a pair of 36″ blades and a pair of 32″ blades. A 10w dual-color LED on each hilt provides the lighting.

1:2256 Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer: a Direct Assault on Your Eyes

I’m pretty sure that White Tiger’s huge star destroyer will be a sight to behold when it’s finished, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not as polished as this 1:2,256 scale model of the Imperial II star destroyer by model kit builder Cho Jin Hae aka Darth Maul. From what I can tell this seems to be based on a ready to assemble kit, but Cho Jin Hae did the painting and lighting.

While Cho Jin Hae’s model is nowhere near as large as White Tiger’s build, the lighting on it is really well done and makes the ship come alive.

    Millennium Falcon Bookcase: Hyper(storage)space

One of the truths about being married is that some days you want to choke your loving spouse. Not kill them mind you, just leave them unconscious on the floor where the dog can chew her hair into a matted mess, not that I have considered that. Not too long ago my wife sold my Star Wars wampa rug without me knowing it, and then spent the money. That’s grounds for divorce in some states.

    falconbook 620x465magnify

I’ve been thinking of what she could do to make it up to me and this Millennium Falcon Bookcase on Etsy is the ticket. The Falcon bookcase comes from Whittled in Wood, the same artist that made the AT-AT bookcase that we talked about before. All the little compartments inside the bookcase can hold your books and other Star Wars junk you collect, at least until your spouse sells it off while you’re out of the house.

It’s made from plywood and birch with lots of wood screws and dowel rods. Unfortunately, it’s not cheap at $915(USD), but it is awesome. For that price, you still have to paint it yourself, as it comes in unfinished wood. Plus, there’s the $175 or so in shipping charges on top of that. But I figure that’s more than a reasonable trade for disposing of my $100 wampa rug.

EA Canada Working On Open World Star Wars Game

EA Canada Working On Open World Star Wars GameIf you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, you might be interested to learn that EA Canada could be working on a new Star Wars game for the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One. The game is expected to be an open world title, which we could be like akin to the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5 by Rockstar. This is according to several job postings, such as animation directors and executive producers. As it stands EA has a decade long licensing deal with Disney for the Star Wars franchise, so it wouldn’t come as a complete surprise that they would be interested in releasing a new Star Wars game, but apart from being an open world title, not much else is known at the moment.

Visceral Games also has a Star Wars title in the works and it has been speculated that EA Canada could be working together with them on it as well, as one of the job listings has called for someone with experience in “multi-site development”. In any case there’s no word on when this game will see a release, but given their current job listings, it looks like the balls has only begun rolling, suggesting that it could be a while before we see anything concrete, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for more info that might pop up along the way. So, who else is looking forward to a new Star Wars title?

R2-D2 Car Charger Is The Droid You’ve Been Looking For To Charge USB Devices

Today is one of the busiest travel days of the year in the U.S. as people are taking the skies and the roads in order to get to their Thanksgiving destination. If there’s one thing we know about a road trip, it’s the fact that nowadays, you need a way to keep your cellphone charged, especially if you’re streaming media from it to your vehicle. Unfortunately, not all vehicles have USB ports, but if you have a 12 volt outlet and a free cup holder, then you can just have R2-D2 be your USB-charging co-pilot.
